WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JACK VINEY

Why are we lucky that we have pick #4 when we have to use pick #3 on Viney?

Turns our Scully compo basically into pick #13 and pick #26. I would take pick #1 anyday over that.

That is some extremely specious reasoning not to mention completely flawed logic.

You look more and more like a million monkeys and a million typewriters incarnate - your idea to trade pick 3 to GWS for a MD pick was inspired - better leave it at that.

I think you are making a whole host of assumptions and, from my sources, they are all wrong.

What have you heard rpfc???

I have heard (due to my work) GC will bid pick 2 on JV - I have to wait another few days (until F/S bidding) to work out how accurate it is though....

Because pick 4 and 13 are our compo picks...

If we didn't have those compo picks our draft would have been pick 3 (Viney) and pick 26.

Therefore we are lucky to have pick 4 and 13 so us needing to use a top 3 pick on Viney is not as bad as it could have been.

Plus, as mentioned, Viney is worth pick 5-8 in my mind so all isn't that bad.

You have heard that or that's what you think? As I am pretty sure MFC released a statement saying we will take the best available players at #3 be it Viney or not.

Source?

GC would be negligent if they didn't approach him. If they are considering it, then again I think it is because the are losing Caddy, and what club wouldn't want a hard inside mid?

Viney should meet with them.... after all might get a free trip to the Gold Coast :D

I've said all along, GC is not going to be bidding IF they don't want him, if they bid then they rate him at pick 2. It's not gonna be a case of ducks and drakes. I stand by this still....

But but but... Whilst I am on record in saying I reckon MFC will not be forced to pay overs... I am starting to think we can't afford not to chose him. With everything that has gone on this year, the last thing we need to do is overlook him on the basis of 1 or 2 picks in the ratings, from a PR perspective Viney is what we need, and the type of player Mark Neeld needs as well.

I will lose my shite if we pass on Viney.

If the club cannot bargain with GC and GWS to avoid this, given the talent on offer this year, then it will be very disappointing.

I haven't heard "olisik" but i think Viney is the best player and best known for us at 3 and think we will take him there if we have to. Pick 4 is going to be the interesting one, I hope it is Toumpas but wouldn't be surprised if he is taken in the top 2.

I doubt very much we would pass.

How do you know he is better then O'Rourke at #3? Or Toumpas? Or Hogan. What does Viney offer that these players do not?

These are the type of questions our recruiters will be asking.

Bottom line is.... GC could actually use the best inside mid in the draft.

Not forgetting that thanks to us he now also has VFL experience and all the intangibles that make great players.

Any moment of MFC saying we will pick the best available no matter what GC do was just us playing the game trying to fool GC... Bottom line is, GC have so many top line kids and not many tough leaders, they would love Viney at 2.

MFC recruiters have a duty of care to pick up the best available player at #3 whether it be Viney or not.

Could be another player with all the same attributes as Viney but 10cm taller and with more pace available at #3

We won't know until the day

Who gives a shiz if we take Viney at 3. I would have taken him at pick 1. To have a guy that 100% wants to play for us and has a top work ethic is 3/4 of the battle. How many other high draft picks rated by the so called experts have turned out to be guns? This kids deserves to be picked and we deserve to have him.

GC have plenty of players to trade, if we can't broker a deal that see Viney at second round,

then our blokes aren't much chop.

If Essendon were in this situation, or Collinwood, what would happen? They wouldn't be using pick 3 put it that way.

Exactly right.

Axis - Collingwood would make their FS refuse to meet with GCS and if he did he would make it clear that he would return to Melborne the day his contract finishes. Their president would be on the radio saying "if they bid, it's war, he's clearly not worth pick 2" and then they wouldn;t bid on him and get him back to Melbourne as soon as the contract is finished.

We will get owned by GCS, I'm very sure of it.

Absolutely agree with this. It certainly appears he wants to be with us and we have begun the development. He seems to understand it wont be handed to him on a plate. Wants to and does work hard and achieve.

I would be accusing GC of tampering if they force us to go 3 but I'd still take him.

What do you expect them to say? "We will be taking Jack Viney no matter what whether we have to use pick 3 or 26. If GWS or GC bid for him we will definitely take him with our first pick."

I mean really, are people that thick???

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
