WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JACK VINEY

Daniher and Whitfield are seen as the best two kids in this years draft by a street.. by a f@cking street.

GCS plan to nominate a player who is definately NOT a top 2 pick.

{there are better players ahead of him and coupled with the fact that they themselves have stated their need for a ruckman, eg: grundy ..as they clearly have an abundance of mids}

Amazing that if we picked up Viney at 3, we would be the 1st club in HISTORY made to use a top 1o pick to secure a father-son..

Even Gary Ablett JR and Jobe Watson went at pick 4o FFS.

Heres the list: {the 1st column of numbers is what they were picked at}

http://en.wikipedia....father-son_rule

Im sick of being bent over..

NOTE: Peoples we CAN NOT use pick 3 for Viney. It would be a kick in the privates to every supporter who pays good $$ to see us win.

WE HAVE to take THE BEST player at 3 - and as much as i would love it to be JV - he is NOT the 3rd/4th best player in this draft. He's just not, it sux, but he's not.

If we take JV ahead of: Whitfield, toumpas, grundy, stringer, vlastin - we do ourselves an injustice and we lose supporters along the way..

its the exact reason why im waiting till after the drafts etc, to sign up for membership.. or not.

Besides, JV would be back in 2 yrs anyway.. maybe not with us but we could try.. would you spend your career up at woop-woop for nothing??

Not, everyones an r-tard like $cully!

Hypothetical: We call their bluff and JV signs for GC for 2 years.

2 years pass and he wants to be traded to us. GC will absolutely roger us on any potential trade. Or he goes into the PSD and is snaffled up Footscray. The kid's a beast. Just get it done.

Or we could trade with the bottom team of 2014,,, to gain they're first Pre Season pick... he could come to us thru the Pre Season Draft.

This Viney topic comes up ever few days and there's still another 2 months till the Draft.

It's going to be a long off season.

Keep in mind that the off season is the only time for our supporters to get excited.

At other clubs, its the reverse.

This is one of the worst posts I have ever seen

Your logic is this -

because Ablett and Watson were taken in the 40's 10 years ago (completely insignificant to whats happening in 2012, but thats another story), the Demons should let Viney go to Gold Coast because we arent going to get him with a 2nd rounder.

Never mind the fact Viney is a clear top 5 talent. and pick 3 is a fair price for him.

He is clearly better than 2 of the kids you listed, and Id have him equal with Whitfled and Toumpas.

Go watch last years TAC cup grand final and then tell me he isnt a top 5 talent. And on top of that he is an animal with his attack on the footy and is a born leader.

Cant wait til he lines up for the MFC in round 1 2013.

Honestly, the article in the age is nothing but a collection of the latest set of draft rumours and speculations. There isn't anything new or interesting in there.

On the Viney front, I would dearly love to get him with a second round pick, but if we are forced to take the best inside mid in the draft with (effectively) pick 4, I can live with that. We still get a shot at another bloody good player in the top 5 as well as a spare mid 1st round pick. That's a pretty decent draft for us provided we don't screw it up.

If Adelaide traded Tippett to the Gold Coast and received Pick 2 in return, what's to stop them from bidding for Jack Viney with pick 2?

I remember reading a few years back when Todd Viney was working at the Crows that Adelaide were trying to woo Jack Viney - apparently there's some loophole where they can do it under a similar fashion to the father-son rule - can't remember exactly how they were going to do it, but apparently it was legitimate.

This means Adelaide might be serious about him if they could get him, and further, it'll be more difficult to get him back to the Demons after 2 years because he's actually got some background in Adelaide, having grown up there in his teens. .

The fact that trade week happens after the FS bidding is done?

I can't believe how many are missing the main point here.

The issue is not "if he is worth pick 3, I'm happy to take him with pick 3".

Worth is irrelevant.

The issue is "we have an OPPORTUNITY to maximise our drafting position by trying to ensure that we can take him in the second round."

Even if JV was far and away the best player in the draft, as a club we would still need to be doing absolutely everything in our power to ensure that we could take him in the second round.

It's not about worth, it's about capitalising on an opportunity.

Given our recent track record with making the most of our opportunities, I'm not all that confident. But we can only hope.

I know what Carlton would be doing.

...and you think we aren't?

I'm sure the club will be doing everything it can within AFL regs, however I still think it will be pick 3 for Viney and very surprised (and ecstatic) if we get him in the 2nd round.

FFS, get over it. He's top 10, that's close enough. The difference between pick 3 and pick 7 in 5 years time will be utterly, utterly irrelevant. Look at the Caddy situation - taken pick 7, two years in the system, and no-one wants to pay even second round for him. Except for the odd exception, the players from any given draft that turn out to be A-graders, club captains, AA etc. etc. do not come from the top 10.

Viney. Fine, bring it on, wherever it is. He's our boy.

I'll dumb it down for you..

At no stage did i think or say, because others -GA / JW- as mentioned, were picked up at 4o, that we should also be entitled to have that luck.. you've assumed this to support your post.

So nice try, but you'll have to get up a bit earlier than that..

"Never mind the fact Viney is a clear top 5 talent. and pick 3 is a fair price for him." -

This is just your opinion.. i have one too.

In fact, experts in the area have had him in or around the top 1o, some NOT even top 1o - let alone top 2.

Many also put Wines ahead of Viney, who for the same type of footballer, has 3 kgs and height on young jack.. but you already knew this huh?

"He is clearly better than 2 of the kids you listed, and Id have him equal with Whitfled and Toumpas."

Lol - Now youre just highlighting your own lack of knowledge in the area.

"Go watch last years TAC cup grand final and then tell me he isnt a top 5 talent."

So i cant go back into the past to use ablett and watson as an example {even tho theyre both still playing to this day} but you can- to highlight a point youre making about JV??

I'll respond anyway:

I tell you what - I watched every game of this years TAC, which is more relevant than last years, wouldnt you say?..

AND NO, JACK VINEY IS C L E A R L Y NOT TOP 5 AFTER WATCHING THIS YEARS TAC -edit:{for those no-so-bright out there, i meant U18s.. irelevant really}-

GAMES.. clearly.. and thats MY opinion.

If youre going to come out swinging, prepare a little better next time, yeah?

lol beat me to it

Viney didn't play one TAC Cup game because he was too busy impressing everyone in the VFL against seasoned AFL players

I actually wish more would get this. There is so much rubbish written about splitting hairs. Oh hes a 4 , not that blokes a 7...We only deal with 2's etc

So much rubbish. Theres no absolute science to this, theres not absolute ranking. Its TOTALLY subjective. A psuedo consensus sort of happens but its not definitive.

One man's 8 is anothers 3 etc. One teams must get is anothers teams pass.

and so on.

Just THE PERFECT example of the inadequacy that has become the norm within the MFC and its supporters.

NO.

At pick 3, i want a top 3 player. Period.

the problem with your stance is theres no way of absolutely qualifying that. The best you can use is hidsight and actual history in order to assess where they should have ranked.

Don't hold your breath DD - we've stuffed this up before......

..which hopefully has moved us closer to a time when we DO get it right..

L. Cook, for eg, was plucked at 12 when many thought he go at 2o - 25..

This year its clearer, imo:

-we either trade 3 for Hogan in the mini-draft toumpas/wines/grundy at 4 {whoever GCS leave behind.. {i think theyll take grundy}} -means JV rd.2-

-GCS bid Viney at 2, they get him and we get a choice of any 2 of toumpas/wines/grundy, at 3 and 4! -i'll go the 1st two! -means no JV-

-or we all die on december 21st 2o12 and none of this matters anyway! -means no nothing-

Option 1 would be my preference.

Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
