Game Day Thread (*in real time*)

Did the humidity disappear in the fourth quarter? I thought that was the reason GC got on top of us in the third? After all, you said they have been training in these conditions for a year... maybe the humidity only affects one team at a time? Is that it?

Not at all, you totally misunderstood what i wrote.

Midway through the 3rd i expected our scoring to slow down...it did because of fatigue. Our boys are not conditioned for that humidity at all, But at the same time i was not at all suprised we pulled away in the last Q...Bigger bodies etc.

If the game was played at night we would have won by more, i have no doubt. So 90 points is ok.

Being an ex pat, i was watching it live on LIVEafl. Some of the sledging of Bailey, Watts and the team in general on here is out of control. I'm really hoping most of it came from teenagers who wouldn't know their bums from their elbows, but just ease up on it a bit guys! Wasn't pretty, was obviously tough conditions and we won by 90 points.

Shut the hell up already!! I can't hear the song!

Another expat, share your sentiments. Just unreal around here at times.

dont take this the wrong way expats but that wasnt a particularly pretty win. It was against teh Suns. They...THEY made us look ordinary at times. Just how pathetic is that. The score is flatering. Our kicking skills must be near the leagues bottom. .

Humidity smidity... weve played in it before..if you rol lthat out youre definitely looking for excuses for poor skills and fitness.

We ran over a bunch of kids today... had Ablett and Brown been playing then the score would have been nowhere near so flattering

I said exactly that, so now you do have me questioning which is the right way or wrong to take.... it. ???

Just stopping to hear the song (seeing as we haven't heard it in a while) might be nice before sacking Bailey, dropping Watts and swearing at the gods for only winning BY NINETY FARKIN POINTS. Semantics are for suicide tuesdays, not 20 minutes after the win......

Yeh we looked bad at the start of the game and the start of the third but to say brown and ablett would of had that much of a difference is just plain stupid. If we had kicked straight we would have been 90 points up at half time

"Humidity Smidity" easy to say from a comfy chair with beer in hand BB. A 90 point effort was a great result today under the conditions.

lol

Some of you shouldn't post while watching the game...

It's like a post for every clanger...

There were heaps of mistakes, that is the only thing you can blame the humidity for - sweat all over the hands, difficult to grip, but that's it.

Third term was disappointing but our NQR leaders responded adequately and did what we had to do.

Frankly, I was impressed with the ruthless last term, I had low expectations going in to the last I will admit but 8 goals 7 behinds was very welcome.

It rained all morning I heard...

No, we had a small shower around 11, then there was another small one just as we got to our seat and that was it. Went out on the ground for a kick afterwards. It's such a sandy soil you would never know if there was rain or not. Not a carpet like the MCG, but close

Fair enough.

Both sides couldn't kick straight, I'll leave it up to every man and his lab to tell Land why...

3rd quarter and first 5 minutes of the first was rubbish. We can't afford these lapses against the good sides. The rest of the game was ok but still scrappy. This was a bad side even for the suns (No Ablett, Brown, Krarkouer or Bennell) and we let them score too much.

Forward pressure went up and down as did the midfield work rate.

Normally the voice of reason!

I am thinking you had a Moloney like night on the [censored] last night.

You have officially lost the plot Bub.

Take another look @ the Final score.

It was an OK win.

I didn't expect us to win by less, with just 2 of our best 22 out and them missing Ablett.

The 3rd quarter was again terrible. Just unacceptable to lose a quarter to a team with an average age of 18. They dominated the stoppages in that quarter which was pretty dismal.

But we take the margin and we move on. Can't really get excited by beating a soulless franchise to be honest.

Edit: ridiculous decision to have Watts as a sub. He did well when he came on and this was the perfect game to get him going. I'd have used Bennell instead to give us some fresh legs.

Yep i'm with you on this. There was a thread asking how much we should win by for a pass mark. Many said around the 70 range. The betting line (which is alot more reliable than online forum predictions, given it is peoples hard earned) was about 50 points i think. Well we almost doubled that. But of course some people still aren't happy. Perhaps we should have beaten them by 500 points. Given the Bulldogs could only beat them by 70, at home, they must be a monty to finish near the bottom of the ladder (that's supposed to be ironic btw)

Nothing wrong with constructive, well reasoned criticisms but It amazes me how negative many of the posts are on this site.

I thought that a 60 point win would be like getting 'par'. We did better than that - more like a solid birdie.

Here is what I expect:

We make an effort in every contest

We make an effort for four quarters

We dont make too many stupid mistakes

We dont trail behind opposition players like puppies

Players support each other

We have a gameplan.

We let ourselves down at times, but we got a very nice result anyway. Lets see of we can win the Bye (anyone around here scared that we will lose this one?;-/) and be ready to resume after Easter - when we will need to play more consistently to beat top teams.

The third quarter was bad. Quite bad. A lack of intensity, again. It's becoming increasingly worrying that we can't play a full game at the required intensity.

Second and fourth, though, were nice. Liked the way we ran out the fourth after it looked like we were going to just ease into a 3-6 goal win.

Plenty of positives with Jurrah and Wonna working well up forward, Davey kicking some goals, and Bail, Moloney, Trengove and Sylvia all having good games in the middle.

But Dunn had another shocker, and with Petterd in form at Casey, he might not make it to Perth. Frawley's kicking still needs work, Bennell needs to play four quarters for once and we need to start games with some sort of aggression.

Hard to know what we can take out of this game, but with West Coast in good form this year I'm not terribly confident about our chances in 2 weeks.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
