6. Moloney...great game again, and with Jonesy, massive work rate.

5. Jones....along with Beamer, positioned us to get back in, and then win the game.

4. Martin...hugely satisfying consolidation of his coming of age...love his work.

3. Jamar...good rucking and good around the ground...taps occasionally too predictable.

2. Rivers...faultless and inspiring, but against a lesser forward line.

1. Jurrah...still wondering what he might do when he REALLY finds his mojo!

6. Gysberts. This guy impresses the absolute hell out of me and I'm giving him a biased best on. Everything he does, in the 4 games he's played has an impact. He's a favourite already.

5. Rivers

4. Jamar

3. Moloney

2. Jurrah

1. Martin

6 -Jamar - His work when the ball hits the ground sets him above any other big man in the comp

5 - Moloney - Tough old school footballer revelled in the wet conditions

4 - Jones - Like Moloney, conditions suited him. Stepped up when the game was there to be won and delivery into the forward line was fantastic

3 - Jurrah - Best on ground before he copped one high. Was the focus of the whole Lions team for most of the game. The target we have been lacking. Best game for the Dees.

2 - Bail - Good job on Black who had little influence on the result, and had some great touches himself.

1- Wonaeamirri - Hard tackling and great passing kept Melbourne in the game in the first half. Much quicker in a straight line than I remember

Others

Gysberts - Next in line for me. Worked hard at the clearances and gave a second option to Moloney. Looks to be a player.

Rivers - Good game, took some solid marks. Playing the easiest position on the ground, unaccountable loose man in defence against a poor forward line, so not in the votes from me.

Fair enough, and i'm not usually one to question other peoples votes. But what about the numerous occasions today where he saved our bacon by getting a fist on some crucial spoils in one-on-one situations, on the very last line of defence? Saved at least 3 or 4 goals in the 2nd half directly from spoils/marks in the defence line after a Melbourne turnover(s) in the middle.

6 - Rivers. Started poorly but was great at taking defensive marks on whoever was the target. Should never be allowed to be isolated, and we should focus our entire game around having him playing loose.

5 - Moloney. Excellent clearance work. Easily our best player, when it comes to taking advantage of one of our only real strengths - our ruck division.

4 - Jurrah. Hopefully showed himself what he's capable of WHEN HE TRIES. He's not God, and I hope he realises that.

3- Jamar. Could have absolutely broken the game open if he'd kicked at goal accurately. Around the ground and in the ruck, there's very few better than him in the entire AFL.

2 - Jones. Answered his critics in the third quarter, but one good quarter out of 12 is not enough.

1 - Martin. Has finally adapted to the spot we need him to play in. the Jamar-Martin combo is going to be very good in the coming years. I wonder what we'll do when Max Gawn comes on.

Martin will play key position either CHF or CHB. those three will be very powerful. Or as the Russian get older he could play a very effective power forward. Needs to practice his kicking for goal though. Interestingly I was watching him practicing his goal kicking from the 50m arc before the game and did not see him miss once out of a out ten tries, but missed two sitters in successive games. Hopefully practice will make perfect...

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w
