Someone needs to tell him to get off the crack before he cracks open his mouth.

That article made no sense and is also completely off the mark.

If he ends up coaching a single senior game at GWS and if Folau ends up reaching half of Jimmy's feats than I'm a pineapple.

He could have been our coach, sometimes things really do go right for this club.

You don't compare Jimmy on his pure physical ability which is what sheedy was doing, which is most likely true on pure athleticism but Jimmy was a ruckman. The real successful for Jimmy came as we all know from inside and that drive and determination is a rare thing even at afl level. As he is more there for the money and ego than a love of the game.

This is what Sheedy was alluding to: -

GREATER Western Sydney coach Kevin Sheedy says rugby league convert Israel Folau is more talented than Melbourne great Jim Stynes was at the same age.

I'd read the article and read what Sheedy was actually quoted as saying, before slagging him off.

"I would say Israel Folau is a better talented player than Jim Stynes from (age) 17-21,"

I'm not even sure if some of you had seen Stynes when he was 17-21.

Posted

What's the Big Deal? Sheedy could well be right, it all depends how much determination Israel has to succeed. Jimmy was raw as between the ages of 17-21 but had Truck loads of determination to burn-still does.

I can see where sheedy is coming from and it is actually a good comparison.

I doubt Israel will play 244 games consecutive or win a brownlow so Jimmy is under no threat.

no problem with Sheeedy's statement. Its unarguably true. What's the fuss?

But then again, there's about 2000 footballers who were "more talented than Melbourne great Jim Stynes was at the same age."

Its what happens after thats the real story!

Posted

Just to nitpick a little bit (okay - nitpick a lot) - 'talent' is fixed, you're born with it, it doesn't change. "More advanced" would be a better term. Sheedy has used the wrong word but his point is fine.

WYL and Demon Rob have nailed it anyway. It's an age-for-age comparison, which is fair.

Posted

He was comparing him to when he was playing for prahran not at his peak obviously. Folau has a body on him already whereas Stynes was a stick insect. It's a fair call to say that folau is more advanced now to what Jim was at the start of his transition into AFL. But we all know which will go down in history as the better player.

Folau is a little overweight

Sheedy can spruik all he likes , he'll find it's in the heart that Falou will be found wanting .

[As one of those who opposed that crazy Sheedy-for-coach push I can say that I don't rate that old coot, however, any time a Melbourne player is discussed as a benchmark for talent and achievement is a good time, whatever Folau does in future.

sheedy has no idea how to develop a convert from another sport, a few years back sheedes brought over a NFL player from the US, he was a wide receiver, sheeds brought him to Australia had got him playing in darwin, i remember seeing this man play and all he did was stand in the one spot all game, with no idea, of what was going on, he had one tackle one hand pass for the game,he did not last a year, that failed then and this will fail now, just wait and see, as soon as his contract is up, he is heading straight back to league,, he will still only be 26, and have years left in him.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
