Last years group was McDonald, Bruce, Green, Davey, Moloney, Rivers, Miller.

With Mcdonald, Miller and now Bruce gone who do u guys think will be their replacements....

I think the others in last years group in Green, Davey, Moloney n Rivers are all montys to stay there...

so who will be the 3 new members of the leadership group (presuming they keep at it 7)

for me grimesy is a certainty to make it.....other options could be col sylvia, jamar, ricky petterd, dunny, ino people will say chip frawley but i dont think he is much of a leader, just seems a real quiet guy that just goes about his bussiness n gets the job done (similar to col garland) but of course others will disagree.

wattsy n scullgove jst a tad young but expect these boys to be in there in the future!

Firstly Jamar, Sylvia, the bellasconi boy, then maybe Grimes if his body is solid.

For me it is very clearly: For 4 remaining leaders stay +

Jamar- has indicated he now considers himself and leader and wants to become a mentor to younger players. Now a fine player, he's a monty

Frawley- our best young player, he's our next generation of leaders. Our defence is going to revolve around him for the next 10 years

Grimes- With Frawley and Grimes being added is an indication that our young leaders are finally ready to take the next step. Grimes will be our next captain (once Green retires), he has leadership written all over him

Sylvia, Pettard and Dunn need to work on their own personal development first before taking on the responsibility of being leaders.

Sylvia would be the closest outside the 3 I mentioned, however it was only 12 months ago that he openly admitted he's on his way to becoming a better more responsible player, but that he's still got a long way to go. I'm glad he's working on his issues, but I doubt he's got everything covered in a short year. Keep up the good work Colin, and if u keep playing the way u do, you'll be in the leadership group in no time

hmmm yes i totally agree on chip being our best young player but they doesn't grant leadership qualities, he may well be a very good leader but have u heard him speak publicly....certainly doesn't sound confident n jst seems too quiet to be a leader.

Yeah, Chip, I was trying to think of who I was missing, but without looking through the list, I couldn't recall him.

At 25-ish games and a guy who needs to focus on HIMSELF and HIS OWN body at present, I don't think Melbourne will include Grimes yet.

For mine: Jamar (great to hear him wanting to enter leadership), Petterd and... gee it's a struggle... probably Frawley.

for me a smokey could be clint bartram, seems like a well rounded bloke with some leadership qualities

Petterd? That's out of the box.

As I said... it's a struggle. Who in our team could be possible LEADERSHIP material?? It's a toughie cos it doesn't mean who is the best player... but who can actually lead!

We have so many youngsters...

That's quite a turnover in the leadership group from 2010 to 11.

Grimes is a definite. Jamar is a good choice, great leadership he displays with his willingness to drag himself to the end of each game.

Is it too early for Scully or Trengove? Most likely. A bit harder for me to tell from the outside, but one of James Frawley or Colin Garland.

Not sure of Col Garland's standing amongst team mates but I like the way he goes about his footy and would be happy to see him included. A no nonsense approach to every contest and playing the one percenters which is a great quality in a leader.

Chip Frawley can continue to become just the best defender in the game.

I don't know the character of players to suggest who might be a good leader.I can only judge by how the perform in the position. But it has happened throughout history in all endeavours that many of the best leaders are thrust into leadership from the position of obscurity.

Hard to disagree with any of that - Jamar and Grimes especially. Unsure how Frawley is viewed as so far as leadership goes.

Any love for Scully or Trengove? Too soon?

Grimes and Jamar for me. No problems with a smaller leadership group, and with the addition of these two we would have all lines covered.

Posted

Why replace them ?

l really think it should be one leader and 2 vice.

dont think we need half the team in their just 3 and let them run it

agree, by definition the more blokes in the group the less significant it is to be a member of it. It should be a highly priveleged position that really has to be earned

Agree. Nathan Jones too.

Green

Davey Moloney

Jamar Rivers

If they are desperate to put the future in there then Frawley or Grimes will do.

Wait.

If the do a Leading Teams style group then we might find out who of our younger players is looked up to by the group but the FD might say let's leave it at 5 or something.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
