Wouldn't surprise me as it's obvious the FD are desperate for a big bodied forward the way they were chasing Hale. From all reports he was OK in the VFL this year without really dominating but did manage to string pretty much a full season together. He's 21, 22 in December and has had several years in an AFL system so would obviously be more developed than someone drafted as a 17/18 year old this year. Personally I wouldn't use one of our ND picks on him but see no reason why we shouldn't give him a go on the Rookie List assuming he lasts that long?

Any keen VFL watchers have an opinion on his form this year?

Bail's just refuted this on SEN this morning. Was asked directly about Thorp being a foil for Killer, he said he had no idea of Thorp being in our plans.

That sort of contradicts TH's quote in The Australian link provided. Unless of course he is unaware of the recruiters 'specific' monitoring of players within VFL, WAFL, SANFL ranks throughout the season.

Sort of contradicts? TH offers more of a response on the subject than Bails did this morning that's for sure.

21 yr old with talent, of course we have been watching him. Will we draft him? I think it is very likely if his head is in a better place.

Is it a great decision if we do? Can't tell you that, but plenty of stupid kids wake up at 21, plenty continue to be d!ckheads too.

Someone will pick him up.

No one did last year and he far from set the world on fire in the VFL. Less chance than more.

Slow news day? Re-hashing articles from this time last year??

I doubt there is any chance we'll take Thorp.

I'm open to being pleasantly surprised.

(let's just hope it's pleasant).

There is no live PSD pick.

Unless they ignore the pick that they upgraded with the Cheney deal.

I don't think we will play a part in the PSD.

Indeed, and it would make no difference anyway. He'd have to nominate for the ND to be eligible for the PSD, so we may as well pick him up there if we wanted him.

Fair call, as long as he comes at a base salary i can deal with it. We do need a big unit up forward.

Who can also ruck.

Otherwise we will be sacrificing some run.

I don't know if Thorp has the size for what we want.

i haven't seen enough of him play to make a proper judgement, i am just going on Bailey's response this morning on SEN, he was certainly caught a little off guard.

They will look at whom is available- biy on thing is for sure we will be getting talls- forwards at least.

Like most here, I have reservations based on Thorp's exposed form beyond his junior years, his history of injuries, and questions (rumours?) about his attitude. I'd be surprised if we draft him, but if we do, I'll be comfortable that our FD has done the necessary due diligence, and are prepared to give him another opportunity.

And if he is a rookie pick then we cant necessarily draw on him unless there is a LT injury.

Until halfway through the season when we're allowed a rookie upgrade.

How often is it that a club does not have at least one player on it's list that is on the chillin' list for the rest of the season..?

    GAMEDAY: Rd 16 vs Brisbane

It's Game Day and the Dees are deep in the heart of enemy territory as they take on the Lions in Brisbane under the Friday Night Lights at the Gabba. Will the Demon finally be awakened and the season get back on track or will they meekly be sacrificed like lambs to the slaughter?

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.
