Cameron Bruce (ouch)

GRUN DEE

Recommended Posts

Cameron Bruce wasn't one of the five signings today.

Looks too be deciding between the Gold Coast and other rival victorian clubs.

Good luck Brucey!

If Bruce did not want to be at the club he would have formally left already. Word on the vine is that he is unhappy with the amount the Dees offered, not the length of contract. He may very well be talking to a few clubs, but I would think his preference would be to stay at the MFC. Many clubs would not be looking to sign a player who has hit 30, as it goes against any clubs rebuilding process, which half the teams in the league are in the process of or have started doing.

GC17 may have an offer on the table for more money, but to pack up your life and move from Melbourne to the GC for 2-3 years is a truckload of work just for 50k-100k per season. Not to mention learning a new system to be coached in, gaining the trust of new teammates as well as acclimatise to a city.

Given how many contracts have been inked at this club in the past 12 months I get the impression that players have been offered fair and reasonable compensation for their playing services. The club obviously isn't blackballing anyone. The fact that Bruce has not signed may come down to him wanting more than he is worth. He has been paid well over his career, I would have thought he would want to retire here even if it means giving up a little less in potential earnings.

I still think he will stay, and I do hope he stays. We will wait and see as the draft approaches.

Until Morton gets back to his best, and performs on a more consistent basis, Cam Bruce is a required player.

Sort of. We have Grimes to come back in too. People forget this.

hang on.

you're assuming that Bruce hasn’t signed because he feels he hasn’t been offered enough. Do you know this for a fact?

How do we know they aren't in talking as we speak?

or that the club is offered him next to nothing?

And i would be surprised if in the past he hasn’t been earning that much. When he was in his prime we had a few good players who would draw the big money before him. I can tell your not a Bruce fan, fair enough but if he was as bad as half the people on this forum make him out to be, i don’t think he would still be on our list.

Just take a step back here. I don’t think he will but he may just be our next captain

Just as a side note I was speaking to James Hird a couple months ago and i asked him who was the toughest opponent he ever played on?......i don’t think you’ll like the answer

Cam Bruce is a great Defender, but his ordinary kicks ruin all his hard work so often.

If he could kick accurately he would be an Elite AFL defender, who can kick the odd goal.

Just my take and no real reason to back it up, but I just figure that the club wanted to get the rest of the deals out of the way before figuring out what was in the kitty for Cam.

If Gold Coast is to take Bruce under the uncontracted player rule then it has to announce it by Thursday.

Thursday October 7, 2pm - Gold Coast FC may include on its primary list up to one listed player from each club (or more than one if the other club agrees) provided the player is uncontracted for the 2011 season.

Signed a 3 year deal in march of 07 for the years 07, 08, 09 and 10.

OOC as of Sept 1.

Thanks for letting me know. I had him signing a year later.

If Bruce goes... we will no longer be burying our heads in our hands due to one of his typical "sideways kicks/handballs" that get intercepted. :)

If Bruce goes... masses of leadership have gone in McDonald and Bruce (captain and vice captain respectively!!!).

I wonder if any club has ever lost BOTH their captain and vice captain at the end of any one season......

Probably an accurate summation. MFC had higher signing priorities before Bruce.

I don't mind if he stays or goes. Wouldn't mind the extra pick though.

Really, I wouldn't mind flying by the seat of our pants next year. I had hoped we'd keep Junior,,, but not to be, at least not yet. But, it could be a good way to make the young leaders Stand Up!

I'm not against that occurring.

I reckon we're vying for around the 7/8/9 ladder position, & that 'vacuum', could well be a good thing, & a unifying thing.

If we break that for him then we have to do it for the next bloke and then the one after him.

I am a big fan of Cam and would love to see him on the field next year but not at the expense of the procedures we have in place.

MFC >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> any player.

Yes it's all about the number of years on offer, melb offering 1(only) Bruce wanting 2 .

That would be "option 1"

Take it or leave it.. That IS a fair offer all things considering, good luck otherwise

Stick to your guns Dees

I'd agree on a one year contract. He should take it and see how he goes. I doubt he could remain fully fit for 2 full seasons at his age and recent record. This year he was ony good for about half the season. Early on I thought he was on the way out but he improved in the second half. Strange how form improves when a new contract is beckoning. If he left I'd doubt he will get a 2 year deal elsewhere.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
