Swan was robbed no question

Fair effort after missing the first three games through suspension but he lost me when he said he supported Melbourne as a kid. Wish he didn't say that.

Otherwise, it's a bit of an indictment on Carlton's recruiting. Where's their future if they're so dominated by one player?

Despite all hate for Judd the fact is he is Carltons only good player.

So whenever the Blues win he would vote, because the Blues suck... except for Judd.

Swan, Ablett, Hayes all had tremendous years, but with Pendles, Didak, Bartel, Selwood, Goddard, Montanga all polling it is always going to be hard for them.

Those guys have the fortune of being in great teams, instead of being the superstar of a bad team. Without Judd Carlton would win 50% less so he is a top 5 chance every year.

I personally would rather a premiership and im sure Swan would to...

Also, look on the bright side!! Did you see Eddie's face?? Now come on the Saints to give the double whammy to the Pies!!

Could he be a bigger [censored]?! Ugh!

And going on about Jimmy too. Please, who are you kidding, the only thing you've ever supported is your bank account. Probably the only true thing you said all night was when you described yourself as selfish.

Could Andrew Maher turn it any more in to a w@nkfest?

I have absolutely no doubt he could - his talent in this area is limitless.

How can someone with such a poor command of the English language, combined with an equally appalling manner of delivery, manage to land himself a job in broadcasting? Does he work cheap or something? Fair dinkum, I hear more profound commentary when I'm down the local boozer - Maher is an insufferable bore.

Oh and on the topic of Judd (fine player that he is) I actually reckon the quality of his disposal really dropped off this year. I can't recall him butchering so many of his kicks in previous years anyway - he has always been a great kick so it really stood out. Perhaps the maggots are really only capable of seeing the numbers accumulated as opposed to seeing the quality? They are deeply flawed - as we all know!!

Despite all that, no-one can seriously begrudge him his second Brownlow. He is a superstar - a mercenary, but a superstar nonetheless!!

I was rapt to see Judd win because it was unexpected. I was expecting an early night. I thought swan would have it wrapped up by round 15. Just because a player gets 37 possies a game doesnt mean they are all good possessions. yeah Swan got the ball heaps of times but they wernt all quality possessions.

If Judd got suspended then Ablett would have won it. What Judd said about being a melbourne supporter and admiring Jim and Garry was something I've heard him say many times before. You could tell he meant it what he said about Jim and Reach and he is right. The real world is what Jim does and every other person does in the world. Not go out once a week and kick the footy. I have no doubt that tonight Jim and Chris will have a chat to each other.

I also thought it was night when Tim Lane interviewed Jim. I wasnt expecting anything like that. It was nice the standing ovation and everyone in the room was fixated on him.

The priceless thng to me both times they went to Eddie. The look on his face was priceless. He just looked so mad. I can imagine him going into the club tomorrow and saying to the players, the umpires hate us, everyone else hates us now lets win the grand final and stick it up everyone.

I have to say Good Luck to Judd, but what it really shows is how poor carlton would be without him.

Who else voted in the carlton side?? Swan lost because Pendlebury also had a great year.

But if judd gets injured Carlton are shot.

As what was said above. I hope Chris & Jimmy get together for a good chat this evening.

To me the Brownlow has been a Tainted award since '86 when 2 of the League's best known hit men tied for the award....Fairest indeed.

Couldn't disagree more.

I'm not his biggest fan, but how he spoke about Jimmy couldn't have been more dignified and respectful. And going by the nodding of Jim's head, he looked like he agreed too.

Judd's acceptance speech was actually very, very good.

Absolutely spot on. Carlton's next best poller was Kade Simpson on 9 votes - come on. All the possible winners from Collingwood, St. Kilda and Geelong all stole too many votes off each other for it to be possible to beat the one man team.

I don't mean to piss on Judd's parade at all because there's absolutely no doubt he's champion player, but I think he's benefitted greatly by the fact that he's not in a champion team at present.

I'm sure he'd prefer to be having crack at another flag anyway.

Sorry Jaded but I can't agree. I'm certainly not a Judd fan, but he lifted a couple of notches in my estimation when be spoke about Jimmy and people like him being the real heroes. To me it came across as a genuine comment, and I respect him for having said it.

Agree with you. To me it was genuine, and if you think otherwise you underestimate the profound effect Jimmy has on people he meets. When shaking hands with the past winners, Judd also stopped at Jimmy and said 'you're an inspiration' while looking him in the eye. That wasn't for the cameras or for the room, that was genuine also.

Anyone that says Swan was robbed is kidding themselves, you don't fluke multiple brownlow medals. You can say his votes were stolen by whoever you like, i'd rather view it that those players played better on the day. Judd's speech for someone not expecting to win was outstanding, wouldn't expect anything less from him. Is he a mercenary, probably, if you left your job to move closer to family and friends and company A) offered this and company B) offered more which of you would go to company B?, I would. I was probably bitter when he did not come to Melbourne but 3 years is plenty of time to move on. He is a superstar and deserves his medal.

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
