Casey Scorpions v Gold Coast

Missed the first quarter, but I thought Miller, Cheney, Warnock and Newton were instrumental in the comeback win.

Blease did a few good things, so too Tapscott. Bate had some influence in the 2nd half.

Blease and Tapscott showed a lot of promise. Warnock, Cheney and McNamara held up well in defence.

Newton playing CHF and Miller deep at FF worked well. Dunn forced his way back into the side on the back of an 8-goal game for Casey so Watts, Jurrah, Johnson and co. need to ensure they play well tomorrow as Miller's surely going to be in contention for a recall.

Didn't see a lot of Bell. Saw less of Strauss.

Bate and Maric did some nice things but also made a lot of mistakes.

First time I've seen Blease and Tappy play live. I have to say they both looked very good at times. Looking forward to seeing them both have a big pre season along with Gysberts. Im a bit disapointed with Strauss, he seems to have droped off a bit.

Anyway good win today and Miller will have to come In next week.

Miller kicking 10 only highlights the massive gulf between VFL and AFL. Miller dropped some marks he should have taken. I wouldn't get carried away with his performance. There's a reason he's playing down at Casey.

I wouldn't put him anywhere near the red and blue.

Everybody drops some marks they should have taken. You can only play as well as you can, wherever you are playing, and he has been doing that. Like it or not he is pressing and pressing hard for selection.

Tapscott and TMac showed glimpses. Blease last quarter was great as was Cheney's. With the quality of our list Strauss will really suprise me if he ever wears the Dee's jumper.

I'm sure Strauss will play seniors again but I do tend to agree - just doesn't look comfortable 1 on 1, even at this level... and while he has a nice kicking action, I'm amazed at how often he kicks it straight to the opposition.

Needs to have a big pre season and start to show something in 2011.

Really like the look of Tapscott and Blease even if they weren't dominant today. Also think T-Mac has what it takes, but it may not be at Melbourne (who is he going to push out?).

Tapscott showed some really good signs and given his limited preparation will surely be played for the Demons in 2011.

Blease impressed in that last quarter. With so little match fitness this year he is one to watch next year.

Warnock was class up back but then again they had few marking targets. But his efforts in the first half were critical in blocking a few GC attacks. The half time difference could have been worse. Much worse

Hard to gauge other efforts against such a mundane opposition after half time.

Gold Coast lacked experienced hard KPB forward and back. They have all the traits of a young team. But geez Swallow and Smith looked good.

At the level, Newton looks accomplished. I thought Maric, Bell and Strauss just went without setting the house on fire. Fitz was overwhelmed in the ruck.

Miller kicked 10. Great effort. Had a salad day. But had little opposition and in truth should have kicked more after missing easy shots and did drop some sitters. Good early then cashed in on some really slack and undeermanned defence. I agree with Hannibal that it probably illustrates the AFL/VFL gulf then suggest he will cut it in AFL.

If we kick a good score against the Tigers does he come into the side?

I'd say no if we kick a good score.

People must remember the GC team is young and need experience, especially down back.

RR could have kicked 6 today. :P

Strength severely lacking. It's no wonder McKenna moved Hunt onto Miller to try and match him for strength. Miller was out positioning young Ginger Meggs & Co. all day - when has anyone seen that at AFL level ?

If Jack Watts had been the one to kick 10 today then we would have been all over it and saying what an awesome game he played. It's disappointing that when Miller does it he simply did it against an "inexperienced backline". IMO that's disrespectful - you still need to play an excellent game of footy to kick 10 goals, and the vast majority were strong marks on the lead or in a contested situation. It's a shame to see people trying to justify him doing it rather than just being excited and happy for the guy.

Some good signs all round for our depth today but on the performance you would say Miller and Warnock would be the only ones deserving of a recall and even then, who do they replace? Pressure is on at the G tomorrow.

Anyone able to comment on how Karmichael Hunt went?

Not as horrid as I was expecting. Did nothing in the first, but got quite a bit of the ball from there. His kicking is very ordinary, especially under pressure, but he won some good footy at centre bounce clearances.

Not the worst player I've seen, but C grade AFL level is best he could hope for.

I am excited for the guy as it may have got him another contract. Just the contract will be at another club. I agree if it Watts people would be losing it but that would be because it would be an inexperienced forward against an inexperienced backman. It would also be because we would be witnessing our future. Miller is mature bodied and was against kids. Great effort but there is no benefit to bringing him into the seniors even off the back of that performance.

The only thing that I was disapointed with about yetserday is that Morton didn't play. If he had of played Casey's last 3 home & away matches he would of been eligable to play VFL finals which would be handy for Casey come September. A great effort by the Scorpions though still no doubt.

Finally someone willing to congratulate Miller rather than bag him! What more does he have to do?

I didnt see Bate or Newton kick ten goals today, nor have I seen too many other forwards in the comp this year kick ten against the GC backline.

Why cant people see this for what it was, a bloody brilliant individual game by Miller, rather than dismissing it due to circumstance? For those that didnt see the game but are still willing to give their judgement on Millers game today, yes a lot of his marks were contested packs or one-on-one marks, and to contrast this yes he did miss 2 or 3 easy shots at goal. Yet others from 45-50 out he comfortably drilled. Is he part of our future? Probably not. But he has for now justifiably put himself back in the selection frame.

This oval was talked about as the best conditioned ground in Victoria during the pre-season. What happened????

Over use of the ground I hear is the problem...

Casey Seniors and Reserves plus I think Cranbourne FC play Seniors/Reserves/Under 19s... Casey training + not sure if Cranbourne also train on the oval...

It was, a very good game by Brad Miller.

But it was also a stunning game generally to watch. The GC certainly surprised with their form & beautifull disposal & skills. They barely missed a target that I remember, certainly through the 2nd Qtr, I was stunned.

After the first half, I was wondering what we could do, especially after the weeek before @ Box Hill. Not winning it out of the middle is a huge problem. But we started to win some supply & really lifted around the ground. I think Newton was a big instigator of the new drive & Miller certainly capped off hard work from upfield.

It was a very good rebound from the first half,,, & the 2nd half of the previous week.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
