Amazing to see Jordie didn't get in the HUN best players, you have to ask the question; do these Journos actually watch the game?

I listened to it and they callers on SEN thought he was excellent.

6 - Garland

5 - Sylvia

4 - Jamar

3 - McKenzie

2 - Bartram

1 - Frawley

When the game got close I found myself saying on a number of occasions "thank God for Garland". It wasn't just him beating Fev early, it was his ability to get it and use it when the Lions were all attack in the second half.

Based on SEN (surprisingly average call):

6 - Sylvia

5 - McKenzie

4 - Frawley

3 - MacDonald

2 - Jamar

1 - Watts

Hard to know after the first two based only on the radio. But I'll definitely get around to watching the replay on the Game Analyser some time this week.

6. Syliva (clear standout..also his goal busting through the pack was a thing of beauty)

5. Garland (MONSTER effort, who stands a chance at getting a clean pair of hands on the pill when this guy is on song?)

4. McKenzie (handled the slippery conditions as good as anyone out there)

3. Jamar (usual candidate)

2. Frawley (ditto)

1. Dunn (showed great composure when needed)

Apolgoies to Bartram. He's moulded himself into a key part of our defence and once again produced some great head over the footy stuff but his poor disposal was a bit more noticeable than last week.

I'd give everyone a vote if I could.

Most frustrating thing with Watts is his reluctance to kick it through the big sticks! But with time will come confidence. He's still doing some great things.

A game for the backmen to earn votes. Afraid we got smashed in clearances and up forward, so Sylvia & Jordie were stand outs for us in the middle. Geez we missed Beamer. Good to see Watts up there in the possessions. Dunn & Ossie were also good to see. Loved PJ's confident goal from a tap.

seriously Watts did not deserve the votes he is getting

He was by far our hardest working forward. His second efforts were excellent and he covered a hell of a lot of ground.

For a 196cm player to get 27 disposals in the rain, is an excellent showing and deserves recognition.

6. Sylvia - got on him for 1st goal scorer - nice odds too!

5. McKenzie - GUN. When he adds more muscle, he will be downright scary.

4. Garland - great suffocating game. Copped a headlock from Fev early, and drew the ire of the Lions fans.

3. Jamar - Must be AA if they pick 2 ruckmen.

2. Dunn - finally allowed to play in his natural position.

1. Frawley - Kept Brown very quiet, also provided some good rebound.

Apologies to Scully, Watts, Bartram, MacDonald and Bail.

EDIT: Forgot Joel MacDonald.

I found the coaches' votes pretty interesting.

Brisbane Lions v Melbourne

10 Colin Sylvia (Melb)

7 Michael Rischitelli (Bris)

4 James Frawley (Melb)

3 Mark Jamar (Melb)

2 Jordie McKenzie (Melb)

2 Albert Proud (Bris)

1 Tom Scully (Melb)

1 Clint Bartram (Melb)

Now I'm never very good with this, but as far as I can gather it seems that one coach gave Rischitelli 4 and the other 3, with the person who gave him 3 giving Frawley 4, but the coach who gave him 4 gave 3 to Jamar.

Perhaps Voss knows that Brown is no where near his best and therefore didn't include him?

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
