parlez vous francais?

Yeah, I knew it was Latin but unfortunately not one of my strong points.

The extent of my Latin is "carpe diem", "caveat emptor", "et tu Jcb"

and "ad infinitum" (in reference to Miller dropping marks).

out of interest, for those who do know Latin, would "carpe nox" be correct for "seize the night"?

Ive been unable to get a definite translation.

Playing with dictionaries I've come across nox, notcum among others

nox : is night

carpe is the infinit - so you are "to seize"

Which is correct.

So Carpe Nox - does exactly match "to sieze the night"

Given there are never exact translations between english and grammar I would say that would work.

um no,

carpe is the imperative mood of carpere - a command.

latin doesn't use the infinit to express purpose (going to london to see the queen would not be videre)

but who give a continental - what a great win!

Calling Mr Matthews.... Calling Mr Matthews....

Lethal are you there? We need a comment.

Good one Rojik. Watts is going to be a super star, no worries. I couldn't help comparing the MAN out there today with the skinny schoolboy last year. He is so skilful and mature. What quick hands he has.

Did he touch the ball in the last quarter?

Yes, he did. He'll put up his feet tonight as will alot of others. Couple of handballs I think. 18 possessions, 2 goals, few assists. Sure ball handling in a difficult night given the humid conditions. Fwiw, better return than Melksham's return last week for his nomination.

I have spent 18 months defending that kid from the uneducated trolls on other forums and, while I always knew I was right in what I was seeing, it is bloody nice to be vindicated. Without looking closely at the replay I reckon he was a prime mover in around seven goals tonight.

Damn he will look good surrounded by Jurrah, Bate, Petterd and whoever gets small role.

Lookin' very good for the future boys.

Did he touch the ball in the last quarter? I only had radio and I don't think I heard his name mentioned once. Not that I would blame him in those conditions given that he still lacks a little fitness. Still, he seems to have had a hell of a game. Two goals and a bunch of assists.

I watched only the last quarter and saw a bit from Watts. Somew good pressure to force a throw in at one point. Also some good handballs.

He also spent a fair amount of time on the bench in the last quarter. I was sitting behind the bench and it looked like he was itching to get on. But maybe fitness is an issue. Not sure, but he played very well last night. Perhaps dropped a few marks due to being pushed off the ball a couple of times, but I have no doubt that as his body thickens he will start to hold those and then we will really see a dominant player. Until that time he more than holds his place with his sur hands at ground level, ability to find time and space and clever use of the ball.

We are certainly starting to see what young Jack is capable of. He is wonderfully clean below his knees and he has the ability to find teammates in traffic as well as bring them into the game when he contests the ball in the air. He is indeed highly talented. All that remains for Jack is to continue to improve his mental application, particularly in his attack on the contested ground ball and the man with possession. Much of this will come with more experience, physical development and the associated confidence this will bring.

Very, very exciting.

It is very early of course, but it appears to me that the only real things he lacks are physical presence and reading of the play. Both are going to develop through age and experience. So we are gonna have a beauty IMO.

I thought he was great! Competed all night. Kicked & assisted goals. Will only get better. Much to look forward too!

Rising nomination for sure I would think!

There was an incident with a head clash (not sure whether it was the end of the 3rd or start of the 4th) where he stayed down for a little bit and I didn't see him much after that. apparently got two touches in the last.

i don't think he reads the play badly, he found space quite a number of times, and in other games i have seen he has found space and hasn't been used. I put this down to unfamiliarity between himself and the other players. remember that he was only at the club once a week last year and missed a fair bit of pre-season. give them time and they will start to kick it to where jack watts is.

physical presence is a concern i have had as well, but his ability to win contested marks last week and the way he brought the ball to ground a few times last night made me think that this wont be a problem as he puts on a bit more weight.

Got my fingers crossed for Jack to get the nomination this week but i think it might go to Dustin Martin just because he's played most games this season and got 23 disposals.

Hopefully the goals and goal assists get our Jack over the line.

I like the look of Grant.

Not too dissimilar to Watts, although I think Watts has greater scope to be a star.

He'll be a gun for the doggies - they are one of the teams we really need to watch out for in the coming years.

F/S pick in Wallis & Libba when other teams are drafting scraps will see their time at the top extended.

anyone starting to draw lines between watts and riewoldt?

watts played up the ground as well as being a large target up forward.

i reckon watts will be better than riewoldt in future tho, big call but i can see it through his attributes

With the sort of domination we are seeing from Naitanui, with a 9 disposal game today, surely he has the Rising Star award all stitched up.

I mean who could possibly better 9 touches and 67% efficiency? The man is already a superstar*

*Please note, the man may well become a superstar, but he hasn't shown more promise than Watts has thus far.

Watts > Naitanui

Only those without any ability to assess football would disagree.

What we've seen from Watts so far is a brilliant ability at ground level, quick hands, strong contested marking and hard running. What we've also seen is a lack of AFL match fitness and a tendency to lead at the wrong time/place, but those are easily fixable.

What we've seen from Naitanui is the ability to do some freakish things (like jump over six foot tall men and run faster than them too). What we've also seen is a lack of football skills, which will take time and might not be ultimately fixable.

Please. Watts will clearly be a better player than the most over-rated player there's ever been.

I've seen Naitanui play two good games this year, both against Essendon at Subiaco and one was in the NAB Cup. If his current form remains for the rest of the season and he wins the Rising Star you know the competition is rigged.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
