He ought to consider himself a very ..VERY lucky chap !! By all accounts any faith in him form the MFC isnt being repaid with any fervour.

Wake up to yourself Juice...you have a golden opportunity to make something out of all this..otherwise it the bush for you my son!! <_<

..........NOW HAVE A FAIR DINKUM DIP FOR CHRISTS SAKE!

Agree totally- needs to really put in- or out the door. Hopefully has been given kicking coaching as seems to lack total confidence in this .If he had of kicked goals instead of points we may not have been talking like this.

Exactly right! Seems to be Melbourne's version of Chris Gayle?! Just looks disinterested!

Chris Gayle Rocks, Newton doesn't (or hasn't to this point!)

Wonder how many games he will play in 2010? i am not confident at all.

Good luck Juice, Work on your game you have the talent show the knockers why the football club beleaves in you. In a stronger forward line your chance will come grab it with both hands.

The fact was that at the end of 2008, our key forward options for the future were Miller and Newton, with the likely addition of Jack Watts. We also knew Bate could play decent footy on a flank. We had no idea Liam Jurrah was going to announce himself as a highly promising 2nd/3rd tall forward. We had to stick with Newton, and for whatever reason decided a 2 year deal would be a good idea.

The club was wrong in giving Newton a 2 year deal, but now it seems to only have cost us a rookie pick in a weak draft. We now have a player who has the following attributes.

Defensive pressure - has improved to average for a key forward

Strength - poor but should be improving

Field kicking - average

Goal kicking - poor

Marking - sometimes reasonable, often poor

Speed and Athleticism - okay

Hunger, desperation, appropriately used physicality - non-existent

Reading of the play - not too bad

X-factor - might be hiding in their somewhere.

Given your explanation of MFC's shortfalls up forward at the end of 2008, how wrong (bsdies hindsight) could the offer of 2 yr contract at low fee rates to a fringe player who offered a speculative chance of being a capable forward have been?

As you rightly pointed out the overall cost has been a sixth pick in the rookie draft. Before the rule change it possible would have cost us the resigning if we couldnt rookie somehow Cheney, TMac or Bartram. There has been some misplaced gnashing of teeth over the resigning of Newton as a monumental error. Its wasnt anywhere near that and based on the situation of the Club's forwards at the time hardly an earth shattering blunder.

As for the attributes, I think Newton is as speculative as any rookie pick. However, the difference is that MFC have determined Newton is unlikely to push for AFL selection in 2010 and beyond. Most other rookies are selected on the basis that they offer the prospect of sometime in the future being an AFL player. i dont thnk that is the case with our boy Newts.

pick 6 in a rookie draft is paying way to much for him. i want his manager to organise my chrissy bonus for me. how he got what he got is unreal.

He was to be re-rookied at his old salary. How much do you think he was contracted for in 2008 as a fringe player in the side?

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
