Strewth...what are you suggesting?

That the Blues would tank to avoid fourth spot and a first week of the finals meeting with the Saints?

They wont be tanking but they dont want to take the match lightly either.

It's quite a factor that StKilda has absolutely NO incentive to win round 22.

Never was and certainly is not now.

How well I remember round 22, 2007. What were you worldly experts saying before that match?

You do? :blink:

MFC would win...easily.

Against Freo I started the game feeling a bit torn about the result I wanted. For the first quarter I was kind of hoping Freo would beat us so that I could not feel conflicted about the rest of the season.

However it became very obvious after we kicked the first goal of the second quarter that we would win so I sat back, barracked for the Dees and enjoyed us pump them into parts unknown. It was a very enjoyable game, but I know that these next two weeks will be anything but enjoyable. I don't care if our last two games are honourable losses, but they sure as hell better be losses!!

I was talking about "worldly experts", Rhino....but you'll do!

Great, so you're really confident that we've outgrown the naivety we showed in 2007, and we'll make sure we get the picks.

Or are you saying that we're so hopeless, and they're so good, that even if we try flat out, we have NO HOPE at all of winning one of these games? Risky thinking, in my opinion.

I have faith in our footy dept., so I'm confident that we'll get our PP.

But I can't help but worry.

JJC listen to Bailey...hes very selective and careful with his words. I think he knows what is required and how to do it. Wil be interesting to see who is or isnt or who becomes not available inthese last couple of weeks

The whole club, from the President down are talking about the 3 picks in the top 20. Not just that if we were beating either of these sides we could just let Judd and co to run free, give Saint Nick a bit of extra space and it's good night Demons. Picks 1 and 2 are in the bag, absolutely guaranteed, lock it in, we are just too smart these days.

I said neither.

Cant you work it out? Doesn't seem like it.

I am sure the Footy Dept will steer the course necessary but we do require the opposition to play its part as well

We are all forgetting the Richmond game, do you really think DB will let THAT happen again?

Relax guys, PP and 1st pick are ours.

Carlton have top 4 at stake - enough said.

Yes they are playing for top 4 but they are still also Carlton.

If they turn up to play, no worries but they are flaky. They are down hill skiers. We need to push them down the hill.

St Kilda aren't a worry. Tune up for finals so all guns will be blazing and they are a good team too.

This argument was over the day we lost to NM.

The PP is ours.

Stop worrying, we play two teams that are much better than us in games they will be eager to win.

It's done.

So start thinking of numbers you would like to see Scully play in - 9, 31 or 13?

It's in the bag.

No way in hell are we losing the PP after the tanking efforts of the past 2 weeks. Fear not, for Scully and Miscellaneous are ours.

We will be happy picking up Scully but don't know what form Miss Cella Neous has? Worth a look Jaaded???? :lol:

Saints being pipped by the Bummers probably good for MFC as alwys better to drop one a few games out and then gear up in last couple of games before the finals rather than in the finals. Saints were 43 down less than 5 minutes before 3 qtr time.

Carltank more of a risk backin up from Adelaid trip and whilst they won well against PT Adelaide, like MFC the Blues did not play against much yesterday. Fact that is at Etihad will help.

Hopefully we can relax a bit by end of Saturday afternoon.

Even Stynes was quoted before the match as saying we'll get 3 picks in the first 20 again this year.... :o

I'm also worried about beating Carlton. To make sure we don't I propose the following match-ups:

1) PJ on Judd;

2) Newton on Gibbs;

3) Robbo on Fevola;

4) Bate on Betts;

5) Jetta on O'Hailpin

6) Junior into the ruck

7) Bartram on Murphy (the double-bluff, so our motives don't look to obvious)

Personally I would not tag Judd, let him go head to head with McLean like we did last time.

McLean was thrashed (although he got plenty of ball) Juddy was BOG and the rest was history.

Also will Newton be fit this weekend? He must be played. He is our greatest tanking asset.

I too am nervous but feel our FD will try every trick in the book to ensure a loss.

I hope that we get smashed out of the blocks, quickly find ourselves down 5 or 6 goals so as I can relax and support our team from that point forward. I am desperate for the PP and I will find myself supporting Carlton if we find ourselves up. I know this is wrong................ just can't help the way I feel.

Dom McLardy spoke optimistically about the future saying we would have 3 picks in the top 20 this year.

I doubt we will trouble Carlton or St Kilda but we need to continue to experiment to make sure.

Being just a little more optimistic we might even end up with 3 picks inside the top "18" this year.

and to think ..effectively most teams have only one pick under 20 ( yes I know.. 2 other will..but most ) and we have 3 !!And its not a deep draft and thats what many are overlooking...just how significant the timing of all this is. Imsure its not lost on JS, CC, DB and the rest ;)

carlton may think of melb's PP as to much of a threat in the future(2012-2015).

they might drop this one.

Very dangerous to flirt with your form heading into finals. Wouldn't worry about them tanking.

They would much rather a top 4 spot than worry about us.

I agree..not the time to lairise and risk a wobble, would be their undoing in the finals....and after all..they're coming..or some such sillyness !! :lol::unsure:

Some of the posts on here are an absolute joke. Thinking that "the Saints won't have an incentive to win"....that's a very sad reflection of our club's culture. Have you forgotten what it is like to barrack for your club to win? It blows the mind.

"carlton may think of melb's PP as to much of a threat in the future(2012-2015). they might drop this one."

Are you serious? That is an absolutely stupid thing to say. Why would they be thinking in 4-6 seasons time, when there is a double chance on the line???

These are two top 5 teams, one of them virtually undefeated, and the other a top four contender. Why, oh why, are people suggesting that we would have the advantage, and so will have to deliberately lose, instead of being defeated on merit (or lack thereof)? We beat the 15th team, FFS. If we can beat either of Saints or Blues, we don't need the PP.

Ridiculous thread.

Carlton are going for top four, and are actually a chance despite needing to win their last two and for the Doggies to lose their last two.

It could be over for them by Sunday though, if the Doggies can beat the Cats.

As for St Kilda, they should be good enough to beat us regardless of who they play, and will be anxious to get a win on the 'G' for the only time prior to finals.

    Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

    BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

    Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
