  1. MFC have given up pick 2, 20 and 72 for Dom Tyson, and picks 9 and 53. Pick 20 was going to be used for Vince?? So maybe that deal off now.
  2. Paul Roos and co need to land a VERY favourable trade before giving up pick 2 as in effect will be giving up Josh Kelly who is BOTH a gun player and also a terrific young man. He is also running in A final at APS aths tomorrow. My boys at school with him. So he would be very good fit with MFC. Can not see any top midfielders available for Roos to get instead. Do not want a repeat of last year when MFC recruiters did not take Ollie Wines!
  3. Total nonsense. Stan Alves and Greg Wells both left the MFC on good terms and with best wishes from all of us for hope they might snag a premiership after many years of loyal and top performance for the MFC. Greg is definitely Red & Blue!!
  4. I think you might find that Alan Stockdale is one of the Melbourne people Kennett will claim have asked him to stand. Perhaps another pollie also. So would not be on opposing tickets....
  5. Jeff Kennett was not the person who restored Hawthorns financial position. as note it was Ian Dicker with lot of his own money. Jeff came in on the back of Dickers long and sustained efforts, including the transition to Waverley so not the achiever some her crediting him for. Remember the AFL approched MFC and tried to entice us with $6m carrot to take over Hawthorn which was so broke they could not pay playars and went to AFL to toss in the towel! Kennett has always bragged about how was against the merger. As previously a Hawthorn Pres and high profile spokesman is is clearly not suitable as potential Chairman of MFC. If he is put up and gets up it could only be with AFL's backing and in that case we will be in the reverse position to 1996 - with MFC the basketcase this time. Result will be that another club perhaps Hawthorn will swallow up MFC. Jeff Kennett is not a unifying person and was divisive as Pres of Hawks. Ask Al Clarkson. Also he is not at all the sort of person who MFC members would regard well as president. If he gets up would only confirm the club I have supported all my life (almost) 60 years will have died
  6. Careful. Next they may announce MFC is close to death .... but that may not be so far off
  7. Where was it stated the Board had made any decision? Have not decided not to sack Neeld (i.e. to keep him as coach) merely put off any decision. Would be different if the Board had announce they gave him a period or number of games to save his job. As it is look like they are passing all decisions regarding FD to PJ. Not saying that is not in best interests of us all but it is not leadership by the Board members so in that sense Deanox's view is valid.
  8. Spot on Redleg. PJ staying for 18 months was a definite an clearly reflects the size of the task ahead. Rest is a non decision and everyone and everything still "under assessment". Not a positive for M Neeld or rest of FD or DMcLardy. Whilst it is good the MFC Board has not been pressured into making a decision tonight for the 6 pm news the absence of any decisions or time line means the speculation and pressure on both the Coach's and President's positions will not stop and may well increase. A poor QBday crowd will add to pressure on AFL to act if MFC Board does not.
  9. Hey Redleg, I am pretty sure Mark left MFC on good terms as I remember talking to him at the time when he told me was going (went as part of Al C's initial team) and would think he would still be on good terms with MFC. Agree with Ben-Hur about him. Mark has handled himself well and developed further during his time at the sqwarks
  10. Hi H_T. Heard Mark say on SEN he has 13 years experience so would be at least 5 at the Dees before that. He was involved when our business group, Melbourne 3000 was trying to arrange work experience for the players and was when the Club was running a business academy headed by the players.
  11. Congratulations to Mark Evans on being appointed as replacement for A Anderson at AFL. I had number of dealings with Mark when he was at Melbourne and he did a lot of work for players off field welfare while at the MFC. Good appointment for AFL as has had 13 years footy club experience. Good former Dees man also.
  12. Agree with Jaded. MFC Board must be prepared to fight and Don's statement is what is required at the moment. The Board needs to address the issue with the AFL and when position is settled those implicated at the centre need to be "delisted". Note that Schwab was already in effect gone 12 months ago and CC and Josh Mahony were moved from the positions they were recruited to no doubt because they still had some term of their contract to run. AFL should be happy if that is result given the reality that several other clubs also tanked in particular Carlton. Naturally AFL will not be able to go as hard at it because of connections with AFL hierarchy. Is what may help MFC. What this episode shows is that inperiod DB was coach CC and CS were heavily involved in the Footy Dept and DB did not run it, as many Dees supporters suspected.
  13. RIP Jimmy. Very saddened to hear or your passing. Our thoughts are with Sam, Matisse and Tiernan and also Jim's family in particular his brothers.
  14. Totally agree! Brad would not be fronting the press without MFC footy department either putting him forward or agreeing to a request. Ray B should be focusing criticism on the MFC. Seems to me the club is happy to put Brad forward when it suits and seems also he would be happy to take the heat to protect the younger guys including the co- captains BUT is a bit odd excluding him from any leadership role at the same time. Note Brad has only stated they are all behind and support LJ and in effect repeated Neld line that LJ will not be ready to play senior footy until seconf half of the season. Shouldn't be bagged for that
  15. See article from HUN this afternoon. Also foxsports video: Ex-Melbourne captain Brad Green speaks about losing leadership role Brad's comments are pretty straight and good to hear him come out and say he still wants to be a positive presence around the club and to support the new leaders. Bit disappointing to hear that the coach only spent a couple of minutes informing Brad he was being dropped from captaincy on the eve of the announcement of the two Jacks as co captains and that they have not had a chat since! Would have hoped the new senior coach would have picked up on the need to deal properly with the senior players after the way Junior was dealt with at the end of 2010 and Brad as Captain of the MFC in 2011should have had more than 5 minutes of the coaches time. Timing is no doubt due to fact that Brad is appearing on behalf of the MFC this Thursday morning at a Bayside Breakfast along with Neil Craig and Jade Rawlings previewing the 2012 season. As the only one with any history with the MFC Brad is the one I would most want to hear from. Brad Green is a quality guy and we spoke to him a few times during last year locally. He has always been very loyal to the MFC and he has our full support. As will the two Jacks as our new captains.

    Neil Craig

well done MFC on securing Neil. His experience and expertise very welcome in support of Mark Neeld and Neil should also be good for our young playing group. Moving in the right direction
  17. Can anyone on here confirm either way whether Brad was at the B & F on Friday night? Unheard of that captain of the club would not be present unless there was a personal reason and someone would have given his apologies, surely. ????
  18. PSST: Vlad's manager says he can come to MFC if we get Tom Scully as Captain. Will get R Lyon to negotiate move from AFL!
  19. All footy supporters know the whole exercise over the weekend was a sham. takes at least a couple of hours to get to western sydney from the airport and Scully still had time to make a promotional video etc before phoning the MFC to advise them he had decided to go to GWS! Who do they think they are folling other than themselves. Clearly MFC was behind the game when Vlad knocked back their 'extras'package which only seems to be availabel to Carlton! Everyone I have spoken to in last 2 days regardless of which clubs they support have expressed with sadness the negative impact on the spirit of team and club that this has. However, regardless of whether MFC admin could have done anything to pursuade TS to stay at the MFC the absurd amount being reportedly paid to him at front end was impossible for any other club to get anywhere near. Certainly not what the clubs would have understoon they were agreeing to. Cuts at the very fabric of AFL as a game. Vlad and co have a lot to answer for as their fingerprints are all over this! We dont have to look very far to see what the future holds if we allow our passion and the spirit of aussie rules to be diluted after the extraordinary outbusrt of that [censored] David Gallop on the weekend!
  20. 17 yo from Brisbane is a star! At least give him an honoury MFC membership for the sentiments in his lament. Spot on! http://video.heraldsun.com.au/2127382536/Scully-signing-off-key
  21. He was clearly not up to it on the day. However loss not only due to those three. Brad Green played behind all day and kicking into the forward line was wayward and wasteful as evidenced by 12 behinds in first half and Greeny and Beamer missed last 2 shots! many short low passes directly to Port players. Add Garland's inexplicable attempt to run out from full back past Westoff and then kicking straight up the guts to where Brogan was giving Port 2 easy goals in the last quarter. Lack of hardness and attack on the ball or taking sound options cost us a game Demons should have won by half time. Very inimpressive end to 2011 and surely would not have been worse if DB had been left in charge for the last 5 weeks!!
  22. Hopefully the news is good and a new major sponsor which is not a betting business has been landed. The concern is however that loyal and long term sponsors have been unhappy. MFC has a long history of over promising and underdelivering for sponsors, sometimes not anyones fault but in some cases have burnt off the incumbant. Previously LG and BMW left unhappily. MFC is not only sporting club to experience this but is disappointing it can not find a major sponsor or 2 who last long term on the basis of sustained mutual benefit to both parties. Timing of change of major sponsors right now not ideal either!
  23. Timing of annoucing CS contract extension for a year is shocking! This only adds to 'boys club' comments! DB as a rookie coach was always subject to possible interference or influence from CC who was one of the shortlisted candidates for the job (maybe only lost out re $$) and CS has prior form of getting invloived in football dept matters as noted by others. So possibly almost doomed not to succeed! If MFC Board is serious more changes are needed. Just replacing DB is not addressing the problems.
  24. Spot on! offering and announcing 1 year extension of CS and also CC is safe at same time BD sacking formalised was very poor and disrespectful. Clearly there are issues with CS and CC perfomances or roles and whether involving themselves in Football Dept. For both of them to be confirmed today is very odd. Even if not the case looks like Dean Bailey whos is the outsider is taking ALL the blame. No doubt he had to go after Saturday and was only 50:50 to be retained before then so decision is right, timing is questionable. Not addressed by either Jim or Don in the presser before DB came in and spoke. DB's preformance was classy and much better. Defended his players to the end! pity the players were not prepared to support the coach in the same way!
