If I believed that I'd quit.

Often footballers are the last to recognise or admit that neither their bodies or their form is able to be sustained at AFL.

No much how he tries, Whelan's body has been failing his best intentions over the past couple of years.

I reckon this is Wheels last year.

With all due respect it ought to have been Wheels last season...last year...Im not going to linger too long on the note that some of us here said all this last year...and got shouted down for it. Its not because he isnt a good player ..but is one of those who wil be unavailable far more than he is... its just not good sense to develop a team on this kind of standing.

Seriously..someone else ought to be racking up game time and taking his money. Dont like that thinking..tough..lifes like that !!

Oh God, this is all too much. Rhino, tell me you're trolling!

Well Grimes is skillful, classy, top bloke, attacks it hard, fairly attractive and injury prone - HT, he seems to cover my bases but, but, I just can't think about it!

Loges, Aussie was getting back into it but reinjured his hamstring.

Edit: Bub, you're a cruel, cruel, beautiful man

A bit of a different diagnosis from the afl site......

MELBOURNE

Simon Buckley (groin) - 1 week

Jack Grimes (back) - 1-2 weeks

Daniel Bell (thumb) - 2 weeks

Austin Wonaeamirri (hamstring) - 2 weeks

Mark Jamar (foot) - 5 weeks

Paul Wheatley (quad) - 6 weeks

Colin Garland (foot) - indefinite

Wheatley seems to be in a bit of trouble and no mention of Whelan.

How accurate is this report of all the players please?

Not very accurate at all.

Paul Wheatley will not be back in round 2 because, as stated above, he is out for at least another six weeks.

Take another look.

It gets updated reasonably quickly when news comes to hand.

Why?

Wheels has a history of soft tissue injuries through out his career. They have mounted up in the past 3 to 4 years. I think he is finished.

Isnt Grimes problem a back injury? If so its not a soft tissue injury and has different ramifications for the future.

Wheels is a favourite. One of the hardest players to pull on the red and the blue. But he is 29 and has played only 140 games in 9 seasons which means he has missed 58 games at a average of 6 and half a year. And thats not including finals. And none would have been through form. Played only 5 games in 2007 and 12 games in 2008.

This is it isnt it. When you peel away the sentiment and look at it in cold hard reality there isnt a lot of upside going forward for Matt..a sad but real appraisal. The list, and indeed all things MFC must be driven by real outcomes and expectations....about what is progressive and not just marking time. There will be casualties in this, but its about the team not individuals per se.

Forgive me if there is somewhere on the site where this shows up, I am fairly new to Demonland, but is it possible to keep a thread going that regularly updates injuries and likely return times. Players like Aussie and Jack G must be getting close to a return at some level and reading the various reports from the weekend several players have returned to the available list recently. The players that seem to be injured at the moment are:

Junior,

Russian,

Grimes,

Wheatley,

Bail??

Aussie

Players that seem to be back playing at different levels are:

Robbo,

Strauss,

Wrecker,

MacNamara,

Maric,

Can anyone update this list? it would be great to see these guys placing a bit of selection pressure on the current senior 22

Keeping track of our injury list is a full time job..... So many conflicting stories and 1 week all of a sudden turns into 2-4 weeks and vice versa....

Good Luck.... :P

Indefinite, bloody .... Mind you Davey is doing just fine down back with some precision kicking too.. for the time being

It's a good idea in theory but we would struggle with a source. The Melbourne website updates the injury list infrequently so an injury list thread would probably be largely speculative unless someone from the club could update it weekly.

Every Wednesday, the AFL sends out an injury list for all clubs to the media. It is not always reliable ..but it is some sort of benchmark.

Last week - we had 9 listed as injured or requiring a fitness test - which gave us the longest list in the AFL - AGAIN! From memory the list was Bell,Grimes,Buckley,Robbo,Wheatley, Whelan,Jamar, Strauss and Garland . Junior wasn't included. Add Watts and Blease to that list - and we have a heck of a lot of youthful potential off the field. The question is why are we always so susceptible to injury?

Oops I missed Aussie?..maybe it was 10?

Because we can' afford to pay for the same technology/sports sience initiatives as the other clubs. Plus we are cursed!!!

A source would be hard to come by. In turn, I have heard a lot of different things about players like Jamar and Robbo from different websites and news.

I know for a fact that mfc do not spend as much on medical resources ,physios,MRI scans etc as other clubs, not the only reason we have the longest injury list in the afl over the past few years but it is a big factor

Eventually, I think the reason we are so suspectable to injury is playing form. We have had a bad run of injuries which have affected us over the last few years, but I think that some clubs are in a similar situation, even in form clubs like Hawthorn and Geelong. But on the topic of better facilities and staff, if you look at Collingwood's injury list they have much shorter numbers.

lets get a sience going. We can call up the dead and get curses lifted. We just need Whoopi Goldberg.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
