Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

they are both fine, option b being the better

stop your whinging all of you- yes we know that essendon and collingwood make slight alterations but who cares

english premier league clubs that have been around the same time (but we're just older!!!) ie man United etc. have totally different colour away/clash strips

they are fine- at the end of the day, we want to be winning footy, and we arent going to play all those teams in an away game to wear it 5 times in the season anyway.

Some of this is about the original sports club being shafted by the AFL Politburo, and dictated to by Filth and Scum. Paranoid?..hell yeh!

If every club would line up in their "whites" for away clashes then I could probably convince myself that the "B" option may, just may, be appropriate.

Look, it seems we must bend over, so we will. It just makes me more determined for the club to be successful so we can get some payback in future.

I'm becoming rabid anti filth/scum/afl.

yeah i understand what you are saying, but that indicates that carlton 'own' the traditional monogram of xfc. most of the old clubs have used it at some point, for something, so the fact that a 7 year old doesnt understand that doesnt bother me too much.

in fact i see it as an opportunity to teach the tacker. show him the carlton monogram and show him how the letters cfc fit together. show him the melbourne one too.

Either way im not to worried, both better than this years jumper and dont worry he will soon learn it, if its the one.

That is only my opinion on the two options.

That said, why are we forced to choose a white clash strip? I don't understand why teams like Essendon can get away with their design and we have to come up with something like that (yes, yes a constitution you say). Do the AFL bully the MFC? What other decisions (perhaps recent) have the AFL hand their hand in? I don't know. I can only speculate. Yes, I am sceptical of our relations with the AFL.

The filth don't take any [censored] from the AFL...the scum that is Esssendon don't take any [censored] from the AFL. It is the MFC that shouldn't be taking [censored] from ANYBODY. But, I digress... the MFC have their reasons. The board knows more about our circumstances that anyone us. Maybe we are forced to cut our loses and loose this battle (and a few more to come). I understand that. As long as we win the war.

How much does the AFL pay to keep us afloat each season? I think that is why we will be wearing a white clash jumper..

It is so far from who we are it is disheartening. I voted B none the less.

Well woke up this morning, had another look.

Still like B a bit better but you know what i would choose A's design IF they put a better DEMON on it!

Why doesn't Adelaide's clash jumper need white in it?

Valid point.

Speaking of points...the AFL say the point of the clash jumper being predominantly white is to avoid a clash.

This is like saying speed cameras are there to save lives..what a crock of [censored].

The truth is, they are both there to raise additional revenue...and that being the case, why is the AFL forcing clubs into the position of manufacturing goods that hardly anyone wants to buy? let alone see.

Clash jumpers...how will you feel when your club makes the grand final, loses the toss and is forced to run out in an insipid "clash" jumper...the very thought of it makes me feel ill.

Why doesn't Adelaide's clash jumper need white in it?

None of the following club's clash/away/alternative strips contain white:

Adelaide - uses red as the predominant colour

Essendon - more red than usual

Port Adelaide - I cheat here because they use silver instead

Richmond - more yellow than usual

West Coast - lighter blue than the home strip

Each of these clubs' regular jumper is predominantly a dark colour (dark blue or black), like Melbourne, which suggests to me that they would clash with similar teams. 2 weeks ago Adelaide played Essendon and wore their clash strip, and there was no clash. So one would assume that a predominantly red jumper for us wouldn't clash either. I don't know why we were told to have white in our jumper. Maybe this isn't the AFL, but it's the club that wants the white.

well from an email i got back from the club they said its a requirement from the AFL to them.

But really guys we cant stop white coming into our alternate jersey, so lets just get on with it and live with it and choose the best jersey we have a choice from.

THE 11th COMMANDMENT: THE OLDEST AFL TEAM IN THE LAND SHOULD NOT HAVE TO CHANGE ITS JUMPER. PERIOD.

Clause 1.1: Every other AFL team shall change accordingly when playing an away game against the Demons.

Away strips DONT need to be white..the AFL prescribes .."light" coloured. Tying them down to anything more descriptive makes catching a muddy pig seem like walk in the park !! <_<

I get the feeling we are just lying down and taking the AFL direction.

Either the royal blue/red strip which we wore against Carlton last year or the reverse colour strip (blue on red instead of red on blue) both look great, avoid a clash and don't sell our heritage up the river.

The AFL directive is severally misplaced and it is unfortunate that it is directed at us and other clubs like Collingwood, Essendon etc. dictate to the AFL on the issue.

Why doesn't Adelaide's clash jumper need white in it?

..... or Essendon's? .... and why hasn't Collingwood been required th have a clash jumper at all. Simple answer ... two sets of rules. One for the rich and powerful, another for the rest.

Exactly, that's what i was getting at.

This is one part of the season that i cannot possibly fathom. How the f%$k do we need a third colour, when basically no other teams have to? Very frustrating.

Ha, because Collingwood's clash strip has a white base. They should have to use a third colour.

Perhaps the only jumper we should put forward to is one with Black and White stripes. Hell, we won't need it V Collingwood so why not.

Let's see how quickly Mcguire would get on ourside in any fight v the AFL.

Ridiculous situation. And why does the Demon look so stupid?

Not sure if it has been posted (didn't read the whole thread).

A bit of history about the demons.....

"MELBOURNE The Demons

Nickname variations in modern use: 'Dees'; 'Redlegs'.

Formed in 1858. Foundation member of the VFL in 1897.

Premiers: 1900, 1926, 1939-41, 1948, 1955-57, 1959-60, 1964.

In its early years the club wore all-white outfits and was known as the 'Whites' or 'Invincible Whites' prior to 1872¹. A member of the club, Larry Bell, returned from a trip to England with four pairs of stockinged socks, the two red pairs went to the Melbourne club and the nickname of 'Redlegs', still used today, was born. Melbourne added blue knickerbockers and guernsey as well as a red cap to make up their outfit in the same year, 1872. This ensemble led to the 'Fuchsias' nickname also being used, as the red cap reminded many of this flower. Frank 'Checker' Hughes, a premiership player and coach at Richmond, took over the coaching role at Melbourne in 1933. Legend has it that, early in his tenure, 'Checker' told his players You are playing like a lot of flowers. Lift your heads and play like demons! The name was promptly embraced and the 'Demons' went on to win four premierships during 'Checker's' reign."

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
