Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I'm happy to have Bugg instead of Jack, and i think he, Bugg, will pay his own way overall this year. Mac back will straighten up our forward line, and he, along with Weideman when ready, will take care of the height. Thanks

You're being kind.

I said he should be dropped after his pox 4 goal game, but supporters just got excited by 4 soft goals.

Needless, to say, you don't hear much from them now.

I know this was wishful thinking but I was really hoping we wouldn't have Jack Watts filtering (in some cases dominating discussion) through posts this year.

He's been done to death since before coming to the club and now he's gone it's probably a good time to let it all go and move on.

Fritsch has shown more bravery in the air in four games than Watts has his entire career.

If you cannot see this then you should stop watching football.

Yep, Clint summed it up.  Fritsch is a 21 year old who already shows courage in the air.  Jack runs around with the intensity of an indoor cat and has virtually no impact on the game.

So........@Wiseblood what sage advice to have for these sort of posts?

Time for the Watts' haters to stfu and move on to the bigger picture

Not done to death yet. Just wait till he gets dropped. This is a fan forum, not a high intellectual wankfest and anything is fair game that is not slander, libel, racist or offensive.

Just ignore it, mate.  The haters will hate, the supporters will support.  Nothing is going to change no matter what he does.  Replying to each and every one won't make a lick of difference.

the whole port side were average, not just watts - although i thought he had a classic watts game in that he almost nearly but not quite did some very nice things, and then stuffed up too many

some other dees and pear supporting mates have a guessing game in which round he'll be dropped to the sanfl - i said by round 13; he's been dropped by every senior coach he's had, so it's bound to happen unless he gets the equivalent of jake melksham's free pass from simon goodwin from ken hinkley

this season is so unpredictable at this point in time - every team has ups and downs

except for wretched hawthorn, who're looking good AGAIN

Re the Hawks, my thoughts exactly, the competition has evened out and outcomes depend on the intensity shown by sides, except the Dorks who just execute their game plan and rack up the wins. I thought GWS would have gone to another level by now but they seem to be leveling off.

I’m still not sold on the Hawks and GWS have gone (slightly) backwards.  They’re missing Mumford, Stevie J, Williams, Scully and Wilson.  There’s also the lingering doubts on their list’s ability to play finals football.  They’re Port Adelaide 2001-03.

Hawthorn have the best coach in the league by a country mile.  He is the best weekday and match day coach going around.  Their list however is fragile and is not a shadow of what it was three years ago.

Get the feeling that, once again, someone could pinch a flag this season as there’s no established, consensus powerhouse team.

Based on watching GWS live against Collingwood and St Kilda they are not getting enough from their talls.

In the past these talls were providing an invaluable link up capability.

In addition the high press/ heavy zone adopted by many opposition clubs limits their high quality run and carry capability.

No question that they will be in the top 4 but they are not the absolute stand out that many including me thought they would become.

If MFC does not get our backside into gear and win a couple soon we are in deep poo.  Sides not expected to make 8 are doing much better than us.  Finger out of bum time for this club.

Agree - in most cases over the years, the final eight was pretty much stable and as expected by Round 7 or 8

I'd hope that we could be 5 - 3 going into the QB clash and the bye

People on here say he brings pressure and tackling, but I barely see it. Diabolical kick for goal and just all round poor skills. I'd rather we develop Hannan as the pressure high half forward. At least we know he can kick the clutch goals also at the right time.

Some people still bring up bloody Diamond Jim Tilbrook on here roughly 40 years after the fact!

Stop posting about Jack Watts?     NEVER !!!

This could be a season where there is no standout team, and someone could effectively "pinch" a flag. Adelaide did that in the 90s. Dees could have pinched the big one. Beat the Crows by about 45 points in the finals that year ... (Can't remember the year.) If only !!

The only Melbourne GFs I can remember (and went to) are 1988 and 2000. No hope in either. Poos/wees and Drug cheats were virtually unbeatable in those years.

Bugg has been selected as a defensive forward.

His pressure is hopeless.

Bugg is a bit of a livewire and has provided a spark which has turned us around in two games I can think of.

There is no point in pressuring and tackling if it doesn't result in goals. And kicking 0.4, whether from pressuring and tackling, or from standing in the goal square like Joe the Goose, is letting himself and the team down.

A "defensive" forward is a strange kind of article. Even a defensive forward should be expected to kick goals.

A goal kicking Bugg has a place in our 22. Otherwise, not.

Get on the phone to Simon...

Unlike you, friend, some of us can see nuance.

I don't like some of Goodwin's selections this year, a lack of man on man game style (zones are fine, but it's too loose), or his tagging options (Jones on Mitchell), but it doesn't necessarily mean I don't see the bigger picture.  Goody has plenty of attributes and runs on the board.  We're lucky to have him.

All you see are W's and L's (and I don't mean your username).  Insightful stuff.

And before you go off your nana (in typical fashion), if you don't like my responses don't unnecessarily seek me out.

I agree. Many of his selections seem strange, but it’s his balls on the line, not mine

As you are always 100% right, with no correspondance entered into, get on the blower to Simon and tell him how to do his job better, Better yet, put it on speaker phone ? so we can all get the deal

btw without W’s in the win Column Simon will be dog food, just like the trail of burnt coaches before him. Structures are important, yes. Just like a workflow in an office.

But without the attitude to win every contest on the ground, it doesn’t go very far.

Last week proved that. Our Attitude to beating anyone on any day, at whatever venue in whatever conditions is still sadly lacking, and built from Swiss Cheese.

Attitude to be the best is also nuance.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
