Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Mahoney actually said this morning that pick 10 and a FUTURE 2nd round pick was what he thought was more than fair for Lever.

Now we're getting close.

Me being, well , me , would want their future 3rd back as well.

Mahoney is pretty well on the money. Has been on many occasions. A shrewd haggler ;)

Jake's dad reads this page, I hope everyone is respectful to Jake and embraces him with open arms. He is going to be 10-12 year back-line general and leader for our back-line. From what I've seen, he'll leave no stone unturned and never give in.

If he does, I expect he'll be very proud of his son.

99.999% of posters here are absolutely over the moon that he's nominated this club.

Well a lot of people are talking him up. Better perform as Watts may not be around to deflect the angst. Dawes copped it and was on similar money if the masses are/were correct. If I had a kid playing afl I sure as shite wouldn't be on a fan forum. We Cray Cray!

I think he's right that players should try to maximise their wage whilst also understanding quality of life is important, as is family, as is injury management, as is development etc. The most money up front isn't always the smartest money.

Same with his take on loyalty. AFL clubs can be very loyal in terms of caring for players post career, looking after families, taking the high road defending players. Loyalty is a key part of business - when you treat people right as a business they keep coming back. Players who do their best for clubs will be rewarded with longer deals, clubs who do their best for players will often see those players happy to stay. He's spot on about when players have no value they'll be moved on, I think it's overplayed as a modern concept, that's been happening in footy for decades.

On the Lever money issue I think if he plays like a 750k player there won't be any issues. That's every chance of happening.

Prestia was bought to Richmond on big money and people weren't happy mid way through the year but after a solid end to the year and obviously the team success no one is questioning it now.

Oh I don’t know, Jones collected pay cheques for years when he was with Melbourne and was of no value.

Seems to me that if you are regarded as good player you are well compensated. If you are perceived with deficiencies, clubs as you would expect, are constantly on about improving the list and you may become  involved with this.

I am also unaware of a completely  happy, pleasant way of  facilitating player movement on all occasions.

Every Melbourne supporter wanted Watts to be a Carey, Pavlich type gun player. ( Every coach pre Goodwin too I suspect)

Instead he  became an okish player over a lengthy period IMO . Good some days , ordinary others ( some when we were really needing him to show up).

Over the top emotion on list management and financial club  mismanagement can wreck clubs. We should understand this better than most.

I'm happy to support Goodwin, he improved us 20% in his first season.

I'm not criticising Goodwin, but you could easily put that 20% down to the recrutiment and development in the previous years.

As much as i liked Goodwins adaptability in games, i often found our initial game plans didn't work and he was forced to change it. When we got going we played well, but we had troubles being consistent all year. I hope it's just a personnel issue and that another pre season with the current team and hopefully Lever as an addition we can move forward.

Agreed, natural progression too

I see that differently and pretty much semantics.

Goodwin was the conductor of the Orchestra this year and excluding making the finals met expectations.

Where we finished is where we finished. The Coach was Goodwin.

As an aside I suspect the not making the finals might burn in this very competitive beasts, guts and may have a little to do with this thread.

I don't necessarily have a problem with that either

Same here. He's done alright to bring in the ex bombers duo but not convinced he is a master coach yet and getting the best out of players. Has time to prove himself.

Our list is good enough to be a finals team and we missed out. Some more good recruiting and we should be challenging for top 4-6.

Watts is made scapegoat but other senior players underperformed too such as Gawn, Garlett was missing in crucial times, Jones output wasn't his usual high standard when he came back too.

You don't think a talented young list has natural progression?  Would be pretty difficult for any coach to hinder that, except maybe Mark Neeld....

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
