Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I like this.
I was very much against Jack being given the captaincy after the 2014-15 seasons as some were advocating. I reckoned he was still establishing himself as a player and it would add unnecessary pressure.
I reckon the fact that he is sharing it with Nate is a good apprenticeship before taking on the main gig himself. Give him two to three seasons as co captain and then let him take over if he thrives in the role.

How will Nate Jones react to not being the only Bull in the paddock?

Hopefully he battles on and makes a meaningfull contribution

It could be seen as a kick in the teeth by some, hopefully, Jones doesnt /couldnt feel that way

It probably is just evolution. Its unfortunate, that after many years of giving his all, Jones may miss out on our tilt at the premiership. I hope not!

If Nathan Jones could possibly have a problem with it, then such an ego wouldn't be captain-material in the first place.

The more I think about this the more unnecessary it seems, Viney should just be a vice-captain for a year or so.

I'm exactly the same. I was really possitive about it at first but my doubts just seem to get bigger the more i think about it. I suppose if we start the year well it wont really matter

Couldn't agree more-  I think the public place to much meaning on what it means to be captain in this day and age - he has had his tenure, as far as anyone knows, he is self-reflective enough to be open to sharing the load, so he can get on with playing, rather than holding onto being [censored] off and being distracted and non motivated to play at his peak...

I agree that it seems unnecessary. Ive always preferred one captain. But I think we gotta trust Goody on this. Leading teams aside I doubt it would have happened without his blessing. He's in charge and  lets hope he's reading the tea leaves the right way! Could be he just doesn't want too much dependency on Jones re leadership. Im sure Jones  commands enormous respect in the group and that isnt going to change.

Personally Im still a little burned after the glorious success of our last co captains Grimes and Trengove......but Im fairly confident that we are out of those dark... dark days. ( insert prayer here) ..... and repeat here (....) fark me when is this season starting!

Last Co-Captains = Grimes & Jones

He wasn't the only bull in the paddock when he Co captained with Jack Grimes

He just doesn't seem ready yet, nothing against him at all, just think it's a burden he could've done without for a year or two

Why?  Didn't pronounce a few words correctly?  Didn't answer a question like you would?  Captaincy is about far more than speaking on SEN.

I have no doubt that Jack has great leadership on field and on the training track, but leadership is just as important in the public forum these days as well.

He didn't sound ready on that side of it to me.

Thats just my opinion Wiseblood, I'm sure you and the club knows better (I hope)?

I'm not sure how I feel about the co-captaincy but Jones wasn't exactly a great orator the early days either.

It's Jack's "great leadership on field and in the training track" that will lead us to a flag.

His media performance is meaningless in regards to our footballing result.

Seriously? He's put in all the hard work in turning this club around, only to be told by the new coach that he'll be splitting his role with someone far less qualified - no ifs or buts. People like Viney because he's uncompromising, and I'm almost certain he wouldn't take too kindly to this if it was the other way around.

Its such a [censored] stupid decision, it makes my head spin. What was the point of it? It just makes us look stupid to the rest of the league. Trial co-captains, twice, and finally get it right - before doing it all over again. Goodwin's made his bed by evidently imposing an executive decision, a captain's call, and will now have to put up or deal with whatever comes his way.

Jones will still be top dog, I can see Viney butting heads with Jones if we start losing games. Remember when Ebert whispered something to him last year and he starting slinging punches? I'm not suggesting JV will be anything less than a great teammate, but he's clearly got some growing up to do.

I agree. What I am particularly concerned about is the manner in which the decision seems to have been made.

Viney - "when i was told last week"

Jones - "I was surprised at first"

Jack's SEN interview - when asked whether he feels ready and the rationale behind the decision - "ask goody". He catches himself at the end and clarifies that "we all feel it is the best model for the club".

Did Goodwin consult Jones? The playing group? Even Jack? Seems very odd for a man schooled in the theory of management and leadership to make an executive decision.

I hope his judgment is sound - but I'm also of the school of thought that no one is ever ready for these things - NJ certainly wasn't and if you ask any Leader in business or elsewhere, more often than not someone placed them there based on potential. Everyone has to swim in the deep end for a while.

One thing for sure is that Goody is bold.

Your post suggests that the Viney appointment was a decision made by Goody and Goody alone. I'm not sure why.

Bar Melbourne of 2012, I'm not sure there has been a time where the captaincy decision was solely in the coache's hands. That's also probably because no club has been as much of a basket case in all facets.

Captains, vice captains and leadership groups are appointed by players and coaches. If Viney had receieved 50% of the entire lists vote for captaincy and Jones the other 50%, how would Jones feel about being made sole captain? You could just as easily argue that he'd feel as if he didn't have the entire lists support and therefore would feel uncomfortable in the role... Either hypothetical is pointless.

People have got to chill fark out.

As for the way he speaks publicly, I can only assume nobody has heard Hodge speak in public? He'd have to be the worst public speaking Captain of any club. Yet he remains far and away the best Captain of any club.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
