  1. I went over to the Collingwood forum to see if they were writing poems about Grundy, but looks like Pies supporters prefer to express themselves using the visual medium. This was from their ‘game-plan and tactics’ thread.

  2. Have been watching more and more of this on telly and decided to go to my first aflw game today - great fun. The standard is terrific, particularly in terms of toughness and intensity. Took the 2 yo for his first real AFL outing. Wish he had some of the girls toughness gee whiz

  4. Wowee, what a day! The kids and I arrived at the ground and were welcomed towards the great club activations at the gates: girls got their face painted, spun the wheel and won prizes and got to record a little motivational message for the players. They seemed annoyed when I suggested we go get some seats and watch a footy game, they were having too much fun. Scored a nice spot on the wing, slightly under cover, next to a group of girls who were good mates with Tyla Hanks and happened to be primary school teachers - very handy with taking some heat from 2 x 7yos prone to incessant question asking during a football match. The game itself was a turgid affair riddled with frustratingly poor kicking on our behalf; Norf had a real dig. We can thank our defence yet again. It was great how we withstood their barrage of inside 50s but jeez, we should have been a few goals down at 3q time. Then, that Daisy goal. Like a divine hand grabbed that ball on the sky an guided it on the wind through the big sticks. The crowd went completely [censored] nuts. Was good energy today. Then the kids and I muscled our way to the fence hoping for a high five or autograph. Then we watched Tyla Hanks, as though in slow motion, make a beeline for my girls and handed them the signed footy! (Maybe her teacher mates gave her a tip off) Onya Hanksie! Also got autographs from Kate Hore and Fitzy! The girls were utterly starstuck 😍. Then 3x scarves out the car windows with Grand Old Flag at HIGH volume out of the forth, all the way home. Now onto the Grand Final at Isotopes Stadium. Go you mighty [censored] Dees girls. You’re winning a lot of hearts, young and old. ❤️💙

  5. From memory, the last time we played against the Brisbane Lions (our only loss this year), Tayla Harris was out injured and her presence was sorely missed. We would almost certainly have played a better game today but for the injury. Fingers crossed that she gets the shoulder right for the Grand Final.

  6. That was pretty intense and I'm particularly pleased that Daisy got to kick the sealer. Defence held up brilliantly ont he strictly defensive side but had some trouble breaking out of the ring at 50-70m. That's a team thing. Similarly, we struggled to put it to any kind of forward or space favouring a forward for a long time. Bannan had a game of 'almosts' and relatively little real impact. A couple of extra steps here, a slightly cleaner break from a contest there, and she would have ended the game in our favour multiple times. Must have been very frustrating and I'd be hoping she is setting herself for a mighty grand final. Plenty to like. North are like a custom-built counter to the way we'd like to play and they kept the intensity up very well. Good test, time for the grand final!

  7. All class that quarter, brilliantly deserved. Kate Hore protecting the drop for her mark, then straight kick in the wind, Daisy sensing the moment and delivering perfectly. Just love Tyla Hanks instinct for best option disposal and opening up the game. Defence great as always. Too many contributors to single out really….love ‘em all!!!!

  8. Didn’t age well. Paxy should be in the votes. She’s been awful? Cmon now we let them come at us at the 3rd Q. Defended well and then run over them

  9. I really hope there’s a decent crowd in attendance today. For many of us, this is the last time this season we can cheer the girls on live, regardless of the outcome of the match. Unfortunately, tickets can’t be purchased at the ground so there goes a bunch of potential attendees who are still in two minds. Anyways, we’ll be there in force. Loud and proud as always. Rain? Not a problem. That’s why the good lord gave us ponchos. 😁 He also gave us biceps, except he skimped on those; he clearly didn’t factor in flogger-duty at that juncture. Coz those floggers are heavy, and even heavier when wet. But that’s of no consequence. As long as the girls know we’re there, all’s good. GO THE MIGHTY DEMONS!!!! ❤️💙❤️💙❤️💙❤️💙❤️💙

  10. I have to confess to not getting on board with the AFLW much. Not out of sexist belligerence that you see from the blokes on facebook, but because I just haven’t made the time. The PF was the first game I’ve watched this year and the standard of the game is through the roof compared to previous years. It’s amazing what a few years of training in a professional environment and actually having a pathway to get there makes. Saw the hallmark of a really good side in the second half. North were completely on top but the damage on the scoreboard was minimal, then we crushed them in the last. Got goosebumps with Daisy’s sealer. Looking forward to the granny.

  11. Ball didn’t quite bounce our way for 3 quarters. North cut down our handball game Thanks to the defenders in the 3rd, especially Chaplin. We couldn't find a way out of our back-line, and kicks into the forwards, we couldn't hit them up. The gusty conditions didn't help. Loved the number of smothers we did. Using Hore behind the ball helped, as well as having her capacity to move forward. Role players of Mithin and Heath, as well as Hanks, Paxman who were in everything all day, and Daisy, Zanker, Mackin, Gillard, Birch, Sherrif, did well. Not our best game but did it when we needed. Bring the milk crates, big week as the GF beckons. Go Dees

  12. Great win girls. The game was not going our way yet they hung in and then went pounce. Good sides do that. And I just want to tip my hat to Shelley Heath. Can't think of anyone better to have in the trenches.

  13. Just finished watching. We really took a while to get our rhythm but we got there. I thought Paxy was just bloody huge today. Inspirational. We're two and a half hours drive from some weird construction site of a footy field for the granny. It could be the first flag I see a Melbourne team secure live in the 55 years I've been alive. I can't wait. Let's do it girls. A team to be really proud of.

  20. Like Tayla Harris, I'm sure you'll get up for the Grannie WCW. Also, seeing it's the last AFLW game next week I'd like to thank you for the great insight you have provided to Demonland on the AFLW and all things MFC. You always have a positive slant on things and I love reading your posts. We are lucky to have you. ❤💙🍷🏆

  21. You should’ve seen the QF vs the Crows! Apart from the first quarter of course, we were scintillating to watch. Best we’ve played all season.

  22. Joke of a spot to hold the Grand Final. AFL should hang their heads in shame. Ony hope there are no injuries due to the premature surface.

  23. The Lions are an excellent team and the conditions will favour them. Tough ask but whatever else happens we'll give a good account of ourselves. Gotta match the Lions on the inside. They beat us up around the contest last time out. Purcell and West going to have to have big games. If they get the ball on the outside and start running at us they are hard to stop. Wardlaw very important for them. I reckon Gilliard will get that job. Will be very special and emotional if Daisy can lift the cup next Sunday. Come on Dees. You can do it

  32. Allan, Jefferson & George are sounding like the primary targets at 13, could miss on all three if we trade back to 20. Not out of the question that we could still upgrade pick 37 without giving up 13, but I'd want more than an upgrade of a 2nd round pick to trade out of the first round entirely. An interesting watch will be whether Sydney bid on Giants Academy player Rowston ahead of GWS' picks at the end of the 1st rd. Another live trade option could present itself.

  33. Love this. They really do seem so relaxed confident and happy as a team. I'm super excited but went and saw the black Crowes during the week and I'm inspired to play some music today with some mates. So lots of jamming and then a delayed watch of the game with a lamb roast tonight. To everyone going today, yell your guts out for them. The whole team deserves this flag after so many years of going close. Go you demons

  34. I may be overly cynical but that sounds like 'window dressing' in the same way Jackson said 'Freo or Eagles' but everyone knew he wanted and would get to Freo.

  35. We’ve been super impressive and consistent. We’ll perform today no doubt in my mind. For North to win they are going to have to play to a level I don’t think they possess. dees by 15 points

  38. Springfield hosting the Grand Final!?!? What an embarrassment! If QLD can’t provide a venue of at least 20K the game should be in another state

  39. One thing AFLW does better than AFLM is the commentary. Nice to hear people call the play and not be arrogant tools talking rubbish dont mind how the umps are letting the 50-50 calls go in this game either

  40. North pressure has knocked us out of rhythm. Tayla injury will significantly curtail her influence. 50/50 game

  41. North are up for this. We need to bring our A game from here which will be tough with Harris having only one arm

  42. Given we have two second rounders next year I would have thought trying to use one of those to upgrade 37 to a pick in the 20s this year would be appealing

  43. A bit more on how that early part of the draft from Marc McGowan (now at the Age):- Bombers shape as draft wildcards in top-10 calculations The link to Jefferson & George a pretty consistent theme now, along with Allan, although seems more likely that Allan won't get to our pick. Suns rounding on Humphrey could shake things up a bit, along with Essendon seeking to push back. The decision point for a club jumping would have to be whether they want to jump up to get either Humphrey or Ginbey. Eagles in a pretty good spot to just sit back and take whomever falls through.

  44. Why should the fixture be compromised because Geelong can't use their ground in the 1st half of the year? When the Suns couldn't play home games due to the Commonwealth Games a couple of years back they had to play a home game in Fremantle yet Geelong wants 9 games at KP on the 2nd half of the season? Get stuffed.

  47. Cal Twomey’s November Rankings:- Cal Twomey's Phantom Form Guide: Top draft prospects' November ranking The players he claims Melbourne may have interest in are: • Jefferson • Allan • George • Barnett • Gruzewski And on Jefferson's draft range: Where does he go? Melbourne has been linked to Jefferson at pick No.13. Sydney and the Giants could consider him given they have multiple picks but he could also be available deeper into the top 20.

  49. Listening to the bloke from the government in this video, the first one, there was a big emphasis on the natural environment and the keeping of trees. I’ll throw a really obscure idea out. Make a sustainable wood stand, let the trees come up out of seating. Get a small facility in there, that looks like it’s part of the natural landscape. Make it a landmark eco friendly, energy generating, solar powered boutique standout that can host AFLW and we might get some funding. just trying to think outside the box
