  1. Leave Trac out as he will annoy the crap out of the rest locked in a hub!!!

  2. Especially when we, the members, pay for a % of the $ that keeps the club afloat. While I’m not to fussed about when sport restarts this is a strange argument from the players. No one wants to be in the current situation, yet here we are so let’s deal with it as it comes and get back to being able to earn a living where we can.

  3. “We as AFL players, undertook this contract in 2020, thinking we’d have a certain life, that’s what we agreed to and we signed the dotted line.” Phil Davis and Callan Ward respond to criticism over players reaction to hubs. GWS Giant Phil Davis has defended AFL players for being reluctant to resume the 2020 season in quarantine hubs away from their families. Not a fan of the hub idea myself but this is just a stupid argument... Nobody signed on to this year, we all thought we would have a certain life...but here we are and we will make the best of it as we can and do what we must do. All bets are off... Being an AFL player doesn't make you immune from the world and it's problems.

  4. Finding it harder every day to respect the AFL and its players. Dont want to play... no worries. Hand back every cent you have taken or intend to take for the rest of the season. Play 1 game, get paid for 1 game. "We as AFL players, undertook this contract in 2020, thinking we’d have a certain life, that’s what we agreed to and we signed the dotted line.” Yeah, and the members signed up for a full season of games. You guys want to eat your cake and have it too (everyone gets that saying wrong) Im frankly sick of their whining when so many Australians would do almost anything to be back at work. Bloody primadonas.

  5. Got to love it when a truly deserving player who's barely spoken of outside the club gets the win. She went to another level this year and has been among our most consistent since Season 1. Great effort. Also good to see some youngsters on the leaderboard in Hanks, Zanker and Sherriff.

  8. Ancestry has come into $2 for the place but I reckon it's a very good chance to win ... so much so that I'm on the horse @ 8.50 (Wed early odds) Likes the wet too. And James Jordan has picked Garner & Away Game. The latter choice will almost certainly lead and you can just see the horse scooting away on the turn with that light weight. Garner is a good horse. JJ has also selected November Dreaming (R5 No.13) & Toffee Tongue (R7 No.9) Those 4 saluting will pay very well in a multi ... worth a coffee outlay! Expresso please! I picked all 4 choices myself on Wed night so I'm all in on JJ's 4 selections. Jungle Edge in the last (?) ... it's at least a place chance on an (expected) heavy track. Good luck Wadda & Salvador!

  9. Best Bets: (Sat) Morphettville Race 6 No.1 Garner (W) $2.70 Sandown Race 7 No.1 Ancestry (Place) $2.60 Morphettville: Race 8 No 16 Away Game (W) $4.50 Approx 32/1 for this weeks BBs. I must say i do like a horse called Garner trained by a V Richards and ridden by Holder. A very West Indian cricket flavour !

  16. We are not immune. We are part of the world. However we are unique in that we have a border that we can control. We also have witnessed a very compliant community. We also have more dispersed population with discrete centres of density. With our cultural and social habits of close community relationships we also had internal tracking. But most importantly we had a health system which was also dispersed and with a culture of collegiate and community commmunication. We also had a more egalitarian population with less vulnerable and unsupported sectors. While our health system had been allowed to be degraded and was considered under resourced it was still way ahead of every other country. The virus was/is a health issue and that is where we should have concentrated responses. That lockdowns and distancing were adopted from that expert advice was another factor in our success. But the economic impacts are not all caused by the virus. These impacts are the consequence of government action. The politicians have chosen to close down economic activity and have caused confusion through contradictory action. Why a hairdresser and even supermarkets are exempt is unfathomable. How many transmissions have come from these sources. The social changes being undertaken by the government are economic decisions they are not caused by the virus. We could have invested more heavily in testing, tracking isolating and treating without closing down every community and every ectivity. The government is using his crisis as a huge data collection exercise. With an approval for a huge budget allocation which it will be able to allocate as easily as sports grants this is an opportunity for this government to undertake and entrench ideological action. It is not the virus causing this it is the deliberate political practice. We definitely need to improve our health system. We need to increase our testing and tracking procedures. Education needs greater coordination and consistent practice. Perhaps a health nurse in schools might be a better investment than a chaplain. Our Child care and aged care systems need more resources. As the drought, bushfires and now this pandemic have shown we need a strong central government. This does not mean we need dictatorial and undisputed power application. We do not need more division and less government we need a more representative structure. Border closures and the current divisions of state populations is not required. We are all in this together and yet we are creating and celebrating in many cases the differences. While we have time to reflect deeply on these matters we can also appreciate the role that sports has played in our society. Perhaps as a demons supporter I have become too inured to defeat to lead an uprising.

  18. I've got a very nice Giclee print of Dali's 'Christ of Saint John of the Cross' Quite a striking portrayal. And 'Money Heist' looks very interesting DZ ... there's some more decent lockdown viewing! There's a lot of great European Drama about ... I especially liked 'The Bridge' (Bron/Broen) A joint Swedish/Danish production. Modern day 'Noir' But I've come across about 20 drama series out of Europe that are worth looking at.

  19. Do you work for Murdoch 'bing'??? Selective quoting. Here is what I said. "Not a fan of the hub idea myself but this is just a stupid argument... Nobody signed on to this year, we all thought we would have a certain life...but here we are and we will make the best of it as we can and do what we must do. All bets are off... Being an AFL player doesn't make you immune from the world and it's problems." I don't like the hub idea, but I think they need a better argument than 'we didn't sign up for this'... The players are in no way impacted like many people who have no jobs, no income and nothing to go back to. They don't get to fully do their jobs but they are still getting paid way above the average not to do them. How are they impacted more than the rest of us?

  20. I wrote this in 2011: There is one thing that is stopping Trengove from becoming elite and he needs to address it now. His acceleration is shocking, the first three steps are the most important, and this is the one thing that his hindering his development. Now, the status quo on here will dismiss this and ignore the fact that I do rate him highly. But, we need elite players and he won't reach elite status if this isn't addressed. He will be a very good player, possibly even a club great but we need players like him to tear games open. Trengove's Achilles Heel

  21. it's worth remembering that Richmond sacked its chief recruiter after a number of top ten drafting fails. To say that it is an inexact science is an understatement. Recent events will increase the gap between the haves and the have nots which makes success with this list all the more important.

  22. The hub needs to keep players quarantined from the general public and possible sources of infection. They can interact with each other, but not the general public - otherwise a hub can become a cluster.

  24. Scully and Trengrove was by far the best 2 in this draft , everyone would have drafted them if they had either pick port offered pick 6 and pick 8 for out pick 2 to get Trengrove ! hindsight is wonderfully thing

  25. I agree, and I'm sure the players do to and will have no qualms with foregoing their salaries for this season.

  26. Won’t need hubs by the time the AFL gets going in June/July surely. If there is no secondary surge in infections, state borders will be open and there will be limited social interactions and there will have to be if teams are allowed to train together and play. If interstate travel is available this hub idea is defunct. If there is a secondary outbreak, there won’t be any footy this year.

  27. Who's talking about playing in front of 60,000 ? Only you How do you know the players will be locked in their room, only let out to play and train? You totally overlook the mental benefit of having the diversion of having another interest to look forward to other than staring at four walls all day or loading up on netflix. I understand it has to be done with caution but it can be done. The way our population is structured if your fears come about we can shut down quickly again. We will never be like Europe or USA.

  28. While I agree Tilbrook had ability it was Not on display very often or fir very long. Nothing like say Gerard Healey who we got about 4/5 years of almost elite footy consistently. Tilly was great to watch on song but was missing generally vs top teams far too often.9

  31. You'd be hard pressed to find any children begging for less time with their fathers. AFL is so far from an essential activity; it is a luxury for society. If it is safe to play, then that's fantastic. Playing is isolation hubs where players are essentially under draconian lockdown however is absurd. This is a global pandemic the likes of which hasn't been seen in 100 years. Literally pulling families apart for a luxury spectator event is absurd. Australia is not Covid-19 free and most likely, won't be for another 14-18 months. It will spring back up as soon as restrictions are eased - that is a certainly. The government can test, and track and attempt to contain it, and that will probably prevent it running wild and overloading the system. But it won't be gone. The only reason we don't have mass graves and AFL stadiums as field hospitals is because of social and economic lock-down. IMHO, we may be able to get to a stage where we can play to empty stadiums like round one, but if the situation is such that we need 'hubs' then it is not worth it. It may be nothing for 2020, empty stadiums 2021, then normality 2022. Western countries have already lost patience with the pandemic, they want it to be over and believe that sheer strength of will and positive thinking is enough to get it done.

  32. The 1994 Semi will be on Fox this weekend i believe. Such a great game to watch, Ox in full flight, Lyon 10 in 3/4s Tingay and G Lovett playing at their best, Jeff Hilton and Glen Molloy in the side. Enjoy it. will report back times if i can get them.

  33. Now, that Dad was a real champion for the Dees. Took anyone on, any time, with an attacking style to drive the ball as if we were 5 points down in the last quarter with only 30 seconds to go before the final siren. Graham had wonderful balance combined with a murderous intent with opponents - not Mr Niceguy, at all - just fair dinkum on the field. Great, mobile skills across many positions and as a utility across the ground.

  34. Thanks for comment DJ. Not sure that I agree with myself at the moment. Find myself yelling at the TV and some of the comments. It's good to be able to find refuge in the occasional replays that are highlighted by a knowledgable demonland population. We have some way to go apparently. But as I look at the empty streets in Beechworth and see the Beechworth Bushrangers being unable to train when there is absolutely no indication of the virus having been evidenced within our NE area is frustrating. If we increased our testing we might find that we are able to return to some normal activities.

  36. I was only 7 so don't really remember 1994. Just looked it up and see we lost to the Eagles in the prelim.... So both times we've lost to West Coast in prelim they've won the flag.... Gee I hope we can get them back sometime. FYI I'm originally a Perth boy so it cuts even deeper.

  39. The epitome of a hard draw for the Dees, that year. The way it paned out. Disappointments, Dees. All the work Barassi and Jordan, Barry Richardson, [censored] Seddon, et al., all did, to rebuild the whole club, only to find out that, 1987, '88, 1990, and other seasons, amounted to not a lot. That that group did not come away with some AFL Silverware, is almost an insult to that group of fine footy folk.

  40. I seem to recall that through the late 80s and early 90s we would always have a mid season slump before coming home strong. Probably cost us a flag.

  41. I noticed that King was also talking up zones last night. I hope they don't fall for this. The worst mistake the AFL could ever make is to reintroduce zones. I also hope the cut the current faux zones out in the revamp...

  42. I was always on the Trengove wagon after i'd watched him a few times. Scully, I couldn't fathom what the attraction was by most across the footy world. But i thought, what do i know. So I stayed mostly quiet, thinking i must be wrong and missing something with him. Now in hindsight, scully is exactly the mature version I what I imagined he would be, Pre his injury. The one I'm sad about is Trenners. I think we miss handleable his career badly. My other preferences have briefly watched them were Gary Rohan, and Daniel Talia was a standout for me, when I saw him play, one night that season.

  43. To Trengove's defence he couldn't run after all his foot injuries. Prior to that he showed enough, we did completely stuff him up though. Pick 8 was the one we really stuffed up.

  44. I'm not sure with our culture and player development at that time and all his off field issues that we wouldn't have stuffed Martin up. Doubt three rebuilds later he would be the player he is now if we'd recruited him.

  45. Not only '88. Had he stayed, he would have been another of the troop playing with Robbie in '87, in that Preliminary Final. And most likely, in the Granny following.

  46. Small in the global scheme of things but let's talk about just the impact to our club. No game-day membership sales, no merchandise, no gate receipts. Then consider what happens when the season is inevitably postponed or cancelled. It may well kill our club. Surprised it's not talked about more here. We stand to lose millions this year. Potential tens of millions. No telling what the real impact will be. My concern has always strangely been less about the virus itself, more the political and economic impacts. I have a bit of savings, my own home and a job that, luckily, in these current circumstances has actually gotten busier. But we will see hospitality industries crippled, travel and retail obliterated. Some in the corporate world will feel it too. Large advertising agencies. Freelance budgets will dry up. People will be spending less. Law firms. Graphic designers. Laborers. We're going to end up having educated, highly skilled workers packing shelves at Coles. It's already begun. I know of an engineering consultant from Qantas that was stood down and has taken a hopefully temporary data entry job at Coles. Add on the impact to elderly the world over.

  47. I wanted us to win AFL x, (which we DID!). So there is no other answer than YES. I will still be [censored] for a week, behave unsociably for an extended period and rub every Richmond and Collingwood fan’s nose in it. Expect the same from most here.
