  1. Took the morning off (too much leave) attended the early session, started at 8.30am Only three not with main group * Bail - doing heaps of running and rehab * Dawes - walked a couple of laps * Dean Kent - didn't see him Group of players not playing tomorrow came out ahead of main group and did a bit of leading and kicking. Stark, Nicholson, Barry, Taggert, Tynan, Davis (who didn't miss a target), Strauss, Couch and Fitzpatrick. They then joined the main group, session went for an hour, mainly kicking work once the warm up was completed. Main group then left, leaving behind those above plus Clark, Trengove and Gawn. Fitzpatrick and Clark did lead and marking work with Leigh Brown, Clark did not look hampered at all, and spoke to him after the session, said he was feeling great, was "bouncing" so obviously close. He also unleashed a couple of bombs at goal, one which flew through at post height much to the delight of the main group who were walking off. They then joined the rest for a bit more running work lasted about another 15 minutes. The other group had been doing a bit of evasive work in the meantime. Spoke to Trengove and Gawn said they are very close, Trengove said he was ready to play now, obviously champing at the bit. Rohan Bail is also close to resuming, seems more settled with the way the Club is handling him. All in all a good session, I know it doesn't count for much but the morale amongst the group was the highest I have ever seen it. If you need a good plastic surgeon by the way, speak to Chip Frawley, asked him to show me the eye, he said he was pleased with the work done on it, don't blame him, there is hardly a mark. Also spoke to Luke Tapscott, complimented him (and the rest of the team) at Renmark for the tackling, he said the work they have been putting in is paying off, he enjoyed crunching one guy during the game. All in all a good session. Also got to listen in to a great conversation between Jade Rawlings, Todd Viney, Neil Craig, Jade Rawlings and the "Birdman" Brett Burton who is down with the LIons for the NAB Cup, just "happened to be passing" training.....good natured ribbing all round and some interesting feedback on certain players.

  2. Don McLardy said at an MFC breakfast this morning that they expect to announce a new second tier sponsor in the next week or so.

  3. Watched him closely and he's a typical Melbourne number one draft pick, i.e. no good. He was the right choice for pick one at the time, but boy he's vanilla. He doesn't have one weapon at AFL level and gets exposed by disposal and lack of size. His decision to leave will be one of the great wins in this club's history. One can only wonder how his output and salary is going to pan out over the journey. GWS are embarrassed, which is why they've already fudged his B&F placing and elevated him to the LG. In time it will get more media scrutiny.

  4. Tappy has the tools to be a good player. Injury, confidence, confusion over role might all be contributing to his medicore form. Having said that he's still young! Nathan Jones showed a bit early on but only really came good last year. Give the kid some time FFS

  5. Billyboy... Yep, there is always exceptions to the rule. However, from my general take of the MCC members around me, MOST could afford to spend the extra $60 to help the club out. It is a common fact that the MCC members are generally more financially capable then the average (due to the history of the MCC and the whole waiting line shenanigans) $60 is a round of beers at the MCG anyway. SOME need to lift their game.

  6. But you are. We know what you think of the present CEO. You are as bad as Wilson. The last thing we need now is more shite headlines. Let the guy do his job. Fcuk.

  7. t And how many of those other clubs won 4 games last year? And how many have had their brand dragged through the mud by the media for the the last 7 months? And how many have the same number of prime time blockbusters to promise potential sponsors? If you are stating that it is Schwab's fault that sponsors haven;t been throwing money at us through this period ........... then every thinking supporter we have will be jumping down your throat - not just me! Sounds like you've just had been a cup of lemon tea with Caro

  8. Gotcha. Never, ever, ever try anything new and only do things that you've seen all the other clubs do many times. It's an ad FFS. If it works it's a great plan and if it doesn't it cost us almost nothing (or maybe nothing). Why the wrist slashing?

  9. Isn't it telling that with all the choices we've got, we've got to put an asterisk on them? Ox pre-knee, TJ with a desire boost and so on. From the 90s and 00s there's barely a player anyone would take unconditionally. It's just so symbolic of the NQR nature of all the players that have passed through this club in the last two decades.

  12. no. It is because you do not want to see it. I have written a num ber of reasons above, mainly obstacles that have been in the way that i believe have made CS's job a lot harder. Any CEO would have found it hard going in this club since 2008. I want to see this board and CEO have a clear run at it before i point a barrel at anyone.

  15. Thanks again Satyr. You can't help but think just having Mitch out there in Round 1 will give the entire group a massive lift. I say pull out all the stops to make sure it happens.

  18. AFL website still only has the radio broadcast details for last weeks round of matches... yet they have the TV broadcast info up for this week. No idea if that means anything other than the fact that maybe they are incompetent.

  21. Tappy's a young man on a learning curve. I believe he'll take it to another level this year that will surprise. He's the sort of player i would count on to go over the top in the trenches on the big day. On GF day you don't need the whole team to be full of fancy pants running players with silky skills. Given it doesn't hurt to have a few of these, preferrably with class A skills, but i'd also want to take plenty of big bodied heavy hitting, long racking kickers who will give you an honest, no holds barred, return on your investment on the biggest day and biggest stage when it matters. This to me is Tappy. No nonsense and you know exactly what your going to get as a base minimum output on almost any game he's involved in. I love the Tap! I believe he'll prove he has what it takes in the next few years. GO YOU DEMONS!!! TIME TO HIT EM HARD AND KICK ARSE!!!

  29. That must be some discount. My grandfather put me on the MCC waiting list when I was born and I finally got it when I was 17. The fees were $600 and I couldn't afford it, so my dad paid for my first year. After that he said I'd have to do it myself but I didn't have that kind of cash. Had it been $160 I would have scrapped around to afford it. The stupid thing is that if I had received it when I was 21 I could have paid for it, but now I'll have to put myself on the list again and I'll be in my 40's before I get another shot. Oh well, still got my MFC membership I suppose.

  30. Agree... also, I wonder what percentage of MCC members are MFC supporters? On the GWS member numbers, you will find that in a couple of years if they are not doing well, memberships will be dropping off at a rapid rate; generally speaking, Sydney people are fair-weather supporters, much more-so than their Melbourne counterparts.

  31. I don't think it has much to do with being amateur or not ... more the perception of being needy. and we all know the needy guy never gets the hot chick he is getting worked up over..... Does Collingwood advertise for sponsors? probably not Its just part of the popularity stakes that makes up the fabric of our modern game. no point complaining about...we know where we are at as a club Will it make exisiting sponsors turn away? I doubt it. Will it make potential sponsors look away? Maybe, but then we don't want you anyway!

  33. first post of hopefully many. Hopefully no hidden meaning when it comes to Dawes being out again. Would love to get down and watch but got to work. Casey fields is a great little location with lots of sporting ovals and a big play ground for the little one.

  34. Um... looking at the table, Hawthorn are the anomaly, not us. Our return is about the same as all the other 'power' clubs. So, you could almost use this topic as a quick test to see who on here is just looking for excuses to bag the club/administration. All that aside, I really hope that once our club has reached a solid financial position one of our first orders of business is to get out of that particularly sordid, corrupt, miserable and destructive 'industry of nothing'. Kind of revolting that a club like Collingwood or Hawthorn, with assets and income flowing out their ears, still chooses to rely on proceeds of addiction. 'Family club' my arse.

  40. S-T-I-N-G-A...dashing tough skillful winger who can kick a long goal would be a huge boost to our midfield. A fit and firing OX is hard to go past no matter the need because he was just that good. We really miss a good back pocket who can shut down a dangerous small forward and has some skills when he has the ball in his hands...so would love to have Whelan back there...but also Yze when he was rebounding from the back flank would fill a need.

  45. Yeah, but it's such an awkward price point. Plus he's never played a full season: Year Games Average 2005 16 56.9 2006 15 60.5 2007 16 63.1 2008 18 75.5 2009 17 90.5 2010 15 88.0 2011 19 96.3 2012 17 81.0 Just too much of a risk for me. I understand why others will take him though. He has the potential to be a top 10 forward. I'd go with Mark LeCras. Similar output, more reliable, $60k less. Year Games Average 2005 2 29.5 2006 3 93.7 2007 17 61.8 2008 11 59.5 2009 21 84.4 2010 21 82.2 2011 19 86.3 edit - reposted tables

  46. This is just not true... 15 of 19 possessions were effective. J Mac gets pretty harshly judged here on Demonland. He has the hardness that well all claim to want in our players yet he is constantly being unfairly labeled by us.
    1 point
  47. I hate Demonland sometimes when posters start suggesting we cut players before the season has even started. Especially young players who have battled unlucky injuries. By all means give it to the guys who have had fair chance, but I'm sick of this bad baby hunting.

  48. Brace yourself for the "we should've picked up Nate Fyfe or Ryan Bastinac" posters. I love Tappy. I would love for him to have a period of time where he has no injuries, and is given a specific role in the forward half, and given 6-8 weeks to show he can do it.
