Oliver is the only player since Gary Ablett Jnr to win back to back coaches awards, but of course 18 AFL coaches know a lot less than pundits on the internet so please carry on. By the way, disposal efficiency Daicos 67% Clarry 66% 🙄13 points

...and as we can see from the dates included....The BOARD under Roffey has had NO strategic plan for the past 12 months, and we still have nothing today. No wonder the club has no idea where it is going and what it is doing.13 points

Was with the All blacks for 19 years, oversaw back to back world cup wins and a team that was rated No.1 for a decade. Probably safe to say he's going to know a thing or two about professionalism and what's needed for a winning culture.10 points

Was listening to triple M yesterday and Jay Clark and Damo Barrett stated the following • Kate Roffey is the first of a few changes. One of those big changes is Gary Pert also being pushed out potentially. • Steven Smith is pretty much in the box seat to be our next president. Will be going on a much needed holiday in the next couple of weeks after negotiating some pretty big business deals and may be announced in the back end of the year. • Trac and Goodwin caught up at a Cafe in Armadale on Thursday and by all reports it was a positive one for both parties.10 points

Oliver has been missing all year and Cameron has pretty much been given the best defender since he was 19. Oliver has struggled with the tag all year, and please don't give me the injury excuse. Oliver's last two years has been poor. That's a combination of his own discretion due to his off field behaviour and [censored] poor preparation and then not listening to the medicos around managing his hammy issues. We're paying this guy a ridiculous salary and so far he hasn't performed remotely close to that expectation. If you do a poll to neutral supporters who'd they take out of Cameron or Oliver I can guarantee 98% of the public would take Cameron. He is a genuine superstar of the game and it's ridiculous how he's still performing at an elite level at 31 years of age. That comes down to being the ultimate professional and elite preparer every single year.9 points

I've always thought Petracca performed the civic duty side of our game particularly well. Who will forget him flying over Tasmanian boy Lucas Peters, who suffers from muscular dystrophy, for his first game ? He kept in touch with Lucas for many years. I was more talking about needy middle aged supporters who publicly besmirch your character based on what I suspect is very minor indiscretions. And you don't get a chance to respond due to the nature of the forum in which it's done.9 points

Careful, I’d say your allegiance is showing. I’ve long been a firm believer that football clubs reap what they sow approximately 5years earlier. PJ & Roos laid the groundwork for our flag in 2021 (including significant “managing up”). In my opinion - Pert was an ill-considered captains choice without consultation of others that had worked with him beyond favourable references. I’m aware that some key figures in the industry were shocked & dismayed that they weren’t spoken to prior to his appointment. While he has his strengths, I also consider him to generally come across pompous, smug and dismissive. Ultimately, I don’t consider his presence to be conducive to ongoing success, just maintaining the status quo for a short time before a gradual decline. Likewise Roffey, who was happy to just let everyone do their job without interference initially (a commendable trait) while taking credit for successes. Great at the time, but the role needs more. And in my opinion she would ultimately prove to be someone who promoted herself as an approachable my-door-is-always-open type, but when approached was actually a why-is-this-person-talking-to-me type. Her advertised skillset also didn’t appear to bear any fruit. I’ve said somewhere before on this forum (maybe deleted, not sure) that we simply “didn’t have many friends” in the AFL or media circles. Some didn’t think that was important & seem happy with the sentiment of “not being liked” as it’s apparently a sign of success. But the problem is that we are a club trying to gain a foothold & begging for land/training facility to call our own, and for the rules to be changed in our favour for once as opposed to the opposite... these things don’t happen if you’re generally presenting a very unlikeable front. Maybe “friends” is not the correct term, but if you’re seen as “charmless bullies” you have a serious problem.8 points

She joined in 2013. Hmm 2013, a great year for the Dee's wasn't it? Neeld was coach, 2 wins for the season, 32k members, no flag for 49 years. Yeah, much worse.8 points

I think “misogyny” gets thrown around a little too much these days, often used incorrectly. I’m a single dad to two girls, we are super close and I do and will always support them in everything they do. I don’t have a misogynistic bone my body. Being critical of a female sport (due to a poor performance or a low quality product being presented) isn’t misogyny. Consequently, I find it highly offensive being referred to as a misogynist purely because I’m critical of a female’s performance (it’s the performance I’m critiquing, not the gender). Driving down to Margaret River, currently listening to:7 points

Inside mids always have worse disposal efficiency stats because they’re almost always disposing the football under immense pressure and with little time to spare. My eyes, and Clarry’s accolades tell me that he’s an elite footballer and one of the best ever inside mids. Not sure how anyone is arguing against that because he’s had a down season, where he was still above average for disposals and clearances.7 points

Exactly, you pay to watch them play, not interact with them. Let them entertain as they're paid to do. When you attend a free training session you're entitled to absolutely nothing. They're there to do a job and that's to train and improve as a professional athlete. You'll get the Jack Watts and Colin Sylvia's of the world who'll naturally go out of their way to interact with fans but not everyone is wired that way nor should they be forced to. This is what Family days, player sponsorship and cooperate events are for.7 points

This is a pretty rubbish post WCW, you complain when supporters denigrate our players due to their on field performance yet you're here denigrating one of our players due to his personality which is far worse. Like him or not Petracca is a legend of this club, playing a large hand in delivering us our first flag in a lifetime.7 points

"Melbourne will complete an external review of the club in a stunning backflip on its approach to the on and off-field problems which have plagued the Demons. The Herald Sun understands Melbourne is preparing to complete a full-scale independent review of the club’s performance in the football department and other senior positions after a turbulent year. The Demons have repeatedly denied they needed an external review but have buckled to calls to open the club’s operations to outside sporting experts to review operations. Melbourne great David Schwarz led the charge for a “top-to-bottom” review in the Herald Sun on August 14 in the wake of Christian Petracca’s bombshell decision to explore a trade. The thorough audit will involve people with considerable experience in successful sporting organisations including former All Blacks manager and culture and leadership specialist Darren Shand. At least one highly-respected AFL figure, such as administrator Geoff Walsh who reviewed Carlton and North Melbourne recently, is also tipped to be involved. The club is in the process of approaching individuals with necessary skills to help identify and fix the problems which have hampered the club and led to the resignation of president Kate Roffey last week. But Roffey may not be the only major departure as the review is expected to analyse the performance of all key roles in the football department. Coach Simon Goodwin is contracted until the end of 2026. His right-hand man is football manager Alan Richardson. Club great Brad Green will step in to fill in for Roffey as president while the Demons attempt to convince 200-game former Demon and ex MCC president Steven Smith to accept a board position. The external review will be welcomed by the club’s supporters who are eager for the club to address the cultural and on-field issues which have troubled the Demons since the 2021 premiership. The club has not won a final since the flag and missed the finals in 2024. Chief executive Gary Pert said in a pre-season interview the club had the best culture he had seen in 40 years but there has been recent acknowledgment the club needed to face its issues. The club hopes an external review can help mend the issues Petracca has spoken about explicitly in recent weeks to club leaders after considering a trade including the professionalism and standards of the player group. The review will be aimed to draw a line on the issues and lead to a fresh start for the club next season with a list which remains one of the most talented in the league. Melbourne list boss Tim Lamb is spearheading the club’s mission to attract new talent to the club, including another prime big man, amid the turbulence. Port Adelaide playmaker Dan Houston initially wanted to land at the club but ruled out Melbourne after the Petracca revelations."6 points

I was watching Gulden a few weeks back when he had to play a bit more of an inside mid role in a pressure game. For someone who is one of the great kicks in the game currently, he continually turned the ball over. I think this is where the inside role is often not properly understood by many.6 points

I watched Ah- Mu's goals at the 9.1 min of the 1st q and 20 .4 min of the 4th Q.. He is massive for Coates.. I assumed he would out muscle the 'kids' for his goals. Geez was i wrong. He got his goals via uncontested natural forward movement and leading. He kicked 3 goals out of the teams winning 9 goals 10 behinds. He has had a few bags of 3 this year. We might have something to work with here with this underager. Thanks Dee-licous for the Coates app tip, cheers.6 points

What a bizarre comment. Not elite? He was ranked 2nd in Player Rating in 2021 and won the coaches vote. He was ranked #1 in Contested Possessions. Not bad for an "Outside player". Viney was ranked #36.6 points

I’d love to see Kolt permanently take ANB’s spot and transition the role into a more rounded/attacking version for 2025 and beyond. Can certainly appreciate what our Half forward rotation have done defensively in years gone by but have always felt we are spending too much energy defensively. Pick 5 needs to go to a mid with serious skill and some breakaway pace. We don’t need another Trac, we need someone who compliments Trac and Clarry6 points

Why is it all or nothing? Yes you need ball winners but I'm saying the balance has shifted from when they were 90% of why teams won games. For a while footy used to live in contest and repeat stoppages so having those guys was gold, it was a war of attrition. These days teams that can't move the ball properly are being left behind.6 points

Never was that more evident than in the cracking GWS Swans game. That game highlighted that whilst a good turnover, transition game get you to finals (and therefore silky skills like say Guldens' are important), come finals you still need the hard at it bulls like heeney. The swans won that game because of their intensity and pressure in the second half, not their much vaunted skill and transition game.6 points

Anyone suggesting we trade Oliver needs to look within themselves and figure out who hurt you so bad that you now have an ice cold frozen heart. Get some more love in your heart and take comfort in us being a different club to the big awful ones like pies and blues. Oliver is a person and part of our demon family.6 points

Her interview wasn’t terrible and it wasn’t the only reason she departed. In reality, 12 years in any organisation is probably too long. She had an amazingly successful stewardship since she took over. GF followed by 2 x top 4 finishes is an outstanding record. I would have expected a little more progress from HQ relocation however I can’t imagine that the infighting at the Melb racing club is helping our cause. Time will tell if her efforts at Caulfield Racecourse will be successful. She volunteered more than 12 years at the club. time, effort and tears. we owe her a massive thank you and well wishes.6 points

A lot of people say WCW is too positive, and say that she should recognise *insert whatever issue with the club and/or player here*. The one time WCW expresses her opinion about a player and it is negative... you all see it as a licence to dig the boots in? Regardless of one's opinion of Trac - if you're a poster who is often expressing criticism (whether rightly or not) about the club and players, and demanding that your opinion is respected... how about recognising WCW's right to an opinion?!6 points

Great stuff ET. I’m probably a bit sensitive as I haven’t really loved seeing some of the pile on of one of our posters here, who happens to be female. It made me uncomfortable, but in a way I don’t think I’m able to articulate properly. Again, apologies for misinterpreting your comment. I just wish everyone could perhaps act with a little more empathy (and I’ll try and remember to do the same!). Enjoy the rest of your weekend 👍5 points

Oliver at his best is exceptional in close at using the ball by hands to get it to the outside. His kicking has never been much chop, pretty much always skies it which helps his disposal efficiency as it's safer but not as effective at generating scores. A common problem across our midfield. Daicos is an elite ball user, goes for dangerous kicks that totally break the game open. My fear with Oliver is that inside mids who can only do it one way are seemingly nowhere near as valuable as they were 5 or 10 years ago. Game is being played more and more on the outside these days. Being able to move the ball becoming more important than being able to win it at the source.5 points

So winning 4 B&Fs, including in a premiership year and two coaches awards and 3 AAs by 26, is meaningless?5 points

And this is how Mr Pert acts towards a member if you step out of line (from Lawrence's deposition in the recent Federal Court case): On 22 November 2022 at 12:30pm, I met with Mr Pert for a coffee at his request. During our meeting Mr Pert said words to the effect that: (a) MFC had incurred costs of some $500,000 in the last two years as a result of my actions in running in the 2020/21 and 2021/22 elections, and a separate proceeding in the Supreme Court of Victoria (in which I successfully obtained access to the register of members); and (b) there would be many ripple effects if I continued to agitate governance issues, such as player sponsorships (for example, my platinum sponsorship of Kade Chandler) no longer being offered to me, and my donations (such as my Club 11 donation for the development of Gosch’s Paddock) no longer being accepted by MFC. On or around 5 December 2022, I spoke to ....... who was coordinator of the Inner Sanctum and Player Sponsors, over the telephone. ...... informed me that I would not be offered the opportunity to renew my platinum player sponsorship of Kade Chandler in 2023.5 points

One observation from last night was the contribution of Logan Morris to the Brisbane forward line. He was by no means outstanding but kicked two goals and he missed a set shot from close in but he’s a young tall KPF playing in a finals team. Morris was taken in last year’s draft with pick 31 which means that when we entered the trade and draft period with two first and two second round picks plus some extra trade opportunities, he was very gettable by us. Instead, we opted to use only our two first rounders and went for the likes of Billings, McAdam and Fullarton, speculative options who contributed little to the cause. In hindsight, it might have worked out better had we taken the other course and had someone like Morris on the list. By way of contrast, we only have one first rounder this year when another would come in handy.5 points
