Anyone who isn’t thrilled with that (if it’s true), is an absolute fool! Securing our talls means we can focus on restocking our midfield!42 points

If you’ve missed a lot of the little things Petty has done with positive talk to his team mates, great forward pressure and routinely putting his body on the line then you’re letting your bias cloud your judgment. There’s a very good footballer - forward or back - in there. Don’t drop off now.21 points

The young players are not the problem. Senior players are. Fluctuation in form is one thing. But when you’re getting mauled in every “effort” stat that’s another. Smashed in every aspect of the game that is meant to be our DNA. Inexcusable. Nobody expected us to win, least of all me, but effort is a non negotiable and so many players have to be questioned on their effort today. And no I don’t mean first year, or second, or even third year players. I am talking senior players with 100+ games under their belt, letting their opponents waltz out of packs and mark uncontested time and time and time again. I didn’t care that we got monstered in the ruck, I cared that we had Viney Oliver Salem Nibbler and Sparrow, premiership players with stacks of experience, apply no pressure in the contest. Young, Sarong and Brayshaw may as well have been at a little league clinic today. -36 in contested possessions and -31 in clearances, with the lowest clearance numbers recorded since the 90s! That is sky is falling level performance. Or no performance.15 points

Surely Tim Lamb’s got to feel the heat soon? Goody in his presser saying we don’t have another ruckman who can win hitouts, well why not? Gawn is 33 in a couple months, how was this not addressed in the last trade period? Speak to any lions fan for 2 minutes and they’ll tell you Fullerton’s not a ruckman, so why was he brought in? It’s not about having an A grader in the wings, a C grade ruckman would suffice as long as he’s competitive, incompetent list management, a big trade period awaits for Lamb, do SOMETHING13 points

Let down by 3 of our highest paid players first thing Clarrie (first half), Lever and Kossie need to do is put their hands up and admit their effort and accountability was nowhere near the required level today.13 points

An embarrassing performance. We constantly allowed them to handball to back of stoppage uncontested, and do as they pleased. The scoreline flattered us. A lack of spread on defensive transition. It seemed all too hard. I'll hold fire on a couple of players, but gee whiz, it was tough to watch. Let's just say, given contest numbers went up in the second half, I'd point to psychological weakness in the first half. And you can't lose clearance by 31(!) and expect to be in the game. There's slingshot and then there's uncompetitive at the contest, and we were that for most of the day. Although there were some terrible moments forward of centre and in the back half from our defenders, the mids are responsible for today's capitulation.12 points

Game style Very similar to the dons in some ways – high uncontested possession numbers (Bombers AFL #1 and Freo #4) And a similar use of handballs to the the dons And like the dons like to use of the width of the ground to try to spread their opponents and create overlap opportunities BUT Freo much more prepared to go lateral and hold possession That was their template against us when they thrashed us in the Alice = though they didn’t need dot hold it up much as we weren’t getting across to cover as we clearly had dead legs But we are a very different team now in terms of our running power, dynamism and all team defence We’ll be more than happy to let them hold onto the ball as it means we can get our d set And will likely use very similar tactics as we did against the bombers to make it more difficult to chain out of stoppages and create overlap handball chains by creating congestion around stoppages, applying pressure on the ball carrier and frontal pressure on the receiver in the chain Prediction Dees to crack in hard at it and apply too much pressure and be too strong in the contest for Freo Take our chances early and we win by 17 after leading by 32 late in the last12 points

Big difference between reveling in our demise and calling for half the team and the coach to get the boot, and being very unhappy with that performance. Losing is losing, it happens all the time. We played so well against Brisbane and came up short. Annoying but acceptable. But you cannot put up these uncompetitive numbers and say “she’ll be right”, because sadly it’s not a one off anymore. I didn’t expect a win today. I also didn’t expect a 10 goal loss to flatter us.11 points

Cannot believe the chicken littles, sky is falling and the constant disparagement. Young ones will be inconsistent, it is the next few games that will define our season. So we lose one, it is not the finish of us as a competitive team. Keep building Dees.11 points

The clearance count lost us the game, the score from turnover count made it a mauling.11 points

The game of AFL/VFL football exists because of the passion people have for their clubs. Without it, the game wouldn’t exists and we’d be doing something else on our weekends in winter. It is completely understandable supporters being disappointed with a performance like that. Not to be, would IMO, be very strange.10 points

Where are you seeing this? I hope he has, he may be no good as a fwd but he's a quality key back10 points

You are wrong. First Kosi is no longer a young player. He’s played 100 games and his effort today was subpar. Not good enough. Likewise Fritta. I think you need to watch the game if you’re going to comment about the young players being inconsistent. It wasn’t Turner or Roo or Windsor that let us down today. Lever had maybe 8 goals kicked on him today. Salem 10 touches, Sparrow 15, Nibbler 16, Oliver 18 and only 3 clearances, Viney only 2 clearances! In contrast Brayshaw 41, Sarong 36, Young 28 for a combined 19 clearances. Absolute putrid effort.10 points

Don't let anyone tell you the ruck contest is overrated. Darcy was brilliant, gave his team first use of the ball and tapped it to space, allowing his mids to run onto the ball. The tapouts and clearances were a mauling, and our makeshift ruck combo was out of their depth. I was disappointed that we couldn't cover their overlap run and they constantly switch to the middle of the ground to a lone player and then the run starts. They scored 10 goals starting from their half back line. Our half forwards were pantsed and didn't apply enough pressure or chasing. I thought McVee was sensational, May was outstanding and poor Lever had probably his worst game I can remember but had his left shoulder heavily bandaged after quarter time so unsure if he was injured. Against their talls we needed extra marking power. Tuner was monstered and Petty/JVR rucking meant we were undermanned up from. Max's influence is immeasurable as he marks down back up forward and contests.8 points

12 months ago everyone would be over the moon at this, we successfully played him into a slump and got him to take a pay cut, now time to put him back and look like a star again8 points

Great news if true. Just needs a full preseason and a clear run and he solves problems for us 2025 and onward at either end. Now let’s go and fix our midfield and a second ruckman.8 points

'Bin diving' did make me chuckle. This is more than a new contract, it's a signal of his intentions to commit to our footy club for the foreseeable future after what we all heard over Summer. People may not want to admit it but this stuff is pretty common. It hasn't been the best season from Petty but for him to decide that this is the place to be goes a long way. We now have the chance to get his body right and have him bounce back in whatever his best role will be, who knows maybe a return to defence could be on the table in future. Great news out of a terrible day.8 points

Was Lever Fremantle's biggest asset? Was Fritsch told "always jog, never run?" Was Pickett there as an official observer? Is Sparrow the slowest midfielder in the AFL? Does Goodwin actually think Petty is an adequate ruckman? Is Oliver still worth his enormous contract? And is anyone taking responsibility for the fact that the cupboard at Casey is bare?8 points

Range of plausible ladder possible outcomes today is 4-10. Likely outcomes: 6th (we win, we don’t claw back enough percentage to bump Power or Cats, Brisbane lose to Sydney) or 10th (we lose). This is so crucial, especially given how badly the Dockers humiliated us last time we played. So much to atone for. Added bonus: if we win, we guarantee pushing Essendon out of the 8.8 points

I would like to say I'm confident but I'd be lying. I've watched Freo of late and they're impressive team on the rise. They're starting to build some really good self belief within the team, not saying we aren't either, but seems that JL seems to have them finally connecting in all three lines of the ground Freo at home this year have been hard to stop. Yes they lost to West Coast but I think like us they were just completely off their game. Their slingshot off half back and ability to move the ball at speed is what is winning them games this year. See the Sydney game where this was on display. The Jackson/Darcy combo is another factor. Forget Draper, these two are miles ahead of him. It worries me that we're going to be putting more focus on JVR as a ruckman this week then we would initially like because Petty struggled to provide a solid contest when he was in there. Can see this one going right down to the wire. Go Dees.8 points

After 24 tackles, 27 disposals, 11 clearances and a goal for Casey on the weekend do we reward K. BROWN with a game against the giants? Those sorta numbers force him into the team, don’t they??7 points

Very hard because we really didn't have a player who won their position. We had some triers so here goes - 6. Van Rooyen - 8 marks, a couple of goals, looked like he put in a decent effort. 5. May - some rubbish stat padding but wasn't disgraced and managed to get the Freo fans riled up so points for that. 4. Petty - was decent around the ground but as long as his backside points to the ground he no ruckman. Liked his contested marking. 3. McVee - he played another solid game. He's composed under pressure and uses it well. 2. Billings - did more in less than a half than most did in a full game. 1. Langdon - ran a lot, got to position well and was a useful link Absolutely shocking effort by our midfield - Viney, Oliver, Sparrow, ANB, Rivers, Pickett. As poor a display as you could see. Lever - just about a career worst game.7 points

We are being let down by our leaders Fritsch absolutely no second effort Clarrie absolutely no 2 way run and knowing he has no fitness still stands off his opponent at stoppage Kossie picks and chooses and when he’s on we’re on Our Recent improvements not just beating Essendon was on the back of the young players standing up they will be inconsistent and it’s time a few truths were told to some of the big earners7 points

I love the Kolt, and yes he's only played a handful of games, but hes regularly slow to react and doesn't read his surroundings well. He had eons to get rid of that ball going forward, it was almost as if he waited to be tackled. He'll get better with more games for sure, but boy, he'd want to get that slow reaction out of his game7 points

I discount the last few games. Last year poor kicking cost us 10.12 to their 12.7 while missing Oliver, Hunter. Now we don't have Petracca, Brayshaw and Gawn but we do have Melksham, Oliver and a bunch of really enthusiastic youngsters. A line up that is unpredicatable. We know how Jackson plays. Darcy has been in and out of the team with injuries and played only 9 games this year. Run him ragged and he will tire especially if ground is damp. Not worried about our lack of rucks. This year's game in Alice we missed Lever altho he wouldn't have stopped the belting, maybe saved a few %. We looked all over the shop. The team now seems galvanised with a team first attitude. I detect a steely resolve that was there at the start of the year and in 2021. And, the crowd won't be as one sided as a WCE game ... hopefully some of the 2021 GF, WA fans come out for us today. Oliver is on the verge of his best game for the year could easily be BOG in a Dees win hopefully good enough to take us to 4th. If not 4th consolidating a top 8 position will do for this week.7 points
