  1. It saddens me to read all the unpleasant, nasty comments about Clayton. He is a champion player who has won four best and fairest and has been twice the winner of the coaches award. A higher, more meaningful award than the Brownlow in my humble opinion. He is battling to show his true form at the moment as a result of fitness and past personal issues. He loves the club and was looking delighted when Kynan Brown's debut was announced. I would hope that I am only appealing to a small minority and that the vast majority would agree with me. Talk of trading is ridiculous and an insult to the man. Show some fairness please and give Clarry some breathing space. Negativity does not help his cause.

  4. Say what you want about clarry, but even in his current form he is a better option than any mid running around at Casey. They're using AFL matches to get him fit. We might still see clarry somewhere near his best by seasons end.

  5. I see a very similar comparison physically and attitudinally to another indigenous player who was well loved by all Dees’ supporters, and who ironically also wore #45, Mathew Whelan . i hope Andy’s career is as impressive as Matty’s

  6. One thing I saw on the weekend was his genuine joy and celebration when Petty kicked that goal. It was over the top joy and celebration and spoke to me of a player (Oliver) who genuinely cared about his teammate (Petty) who he knew had been struggling for form. It wasn't about the game situation it was about Petty. That's an important aspect of buying in to the team. And it's good to see that while his form is down. Maybe he does move on to get a fresh start but I hope he stays and returns to his best. It's been a joy to watch him so far in his career.

  7. Love this. With a flag now off the table, it’s important that we use the remainder of the season to find out as much as we can about our list. Go well Andy and well done on all your hard work to get here. Hopefully you’re not the sub 🙄

  8. Love Clarry and all that he has done for this club. 4 time b&f and major component in our flag. Up until this season arguably the most consistently brilliant Demon I have ever seen on a weekly basis. Given the tumultuous off field problems and almost complete lack of pre season. It's a miracle he is even out there. I feared he might be gone. Given the absence of Petracca and, to a lesser extent, Brayshaw he is the main man to be tagged. Champions work their way through it and he will. Meantime against North Viney was the beneficiary and one of the main reasons we won. Easy to understand media and others getting stuck into him. It's what they do. Beggars belief that any Demon supporter that has witnessed this champions career thus far can be so critical of one of our all time greats.' Form is temporary, class is permanent.' Never has a saying been more applicable than to the superb Clayton Oliver. Write him off at your peril. He is a Demon for life.

  9. Fan bloody tastic and about time. For those who may not have the time to see much of Casey... Moniz has wheels, will look to bring run & carry overlap wherever possible. That's assuming he gets the license to do so from the bosses. Yes he can occasionally turn it over or push hard too early etc and get burned the other way, including from his own clangers on occasions. That aside i love his attacking run & gun take-the-game-on attitude and the speed he brings on transition between the arcs in an attempt to get the ball quickly i50. If we're going to play Rivers consistently through the middle from here then Moniz is a great foil in an attempt to make up some of what we might lose across HB in this regard. He also has VG closing speed and plays a tad taller than he might appear with the ability to spoil / compete in the air with somewhat taller opponents. That closing speed also brings fairly decent pressure / tackling on the oppo. Aside from Rivers finally getting a berth through the middle, and while i'm not expecting immediate stardom more just a solid / speedy / attacking brand, this is equally the best news i've seen all year.

  11. I’m positive family and friends up here in Darwin will be ecstatic. As will his former junior coach at Nightcliff. (Scotty will be chuffed). Long time coming but deservedly so. Did it the hard way kicking the dew off the grass. Long may you run Andy. ❤️💙

  12. 2024 was always going to be about Clayton the person not Clayton the footballer. He has done more than enough in his time with our club to be afforded a “down” year while he gets his health in order. I hope everyone criticizing him never goes through anything personal that impacts their job.

  14. No-one worth their salt on this board is trying to disrespect Clayton Oliver. We all know what he's given us and we all know what he's been through. We don't know what is happening internally but on the other hand we can only judge on what we see on the field and the fact is that his performance is not what it was. But all this 'don't mention the war' talk and people not being able to criticise is madness. Yes there is a trade thread on here discussing trade situations, this is meant to be pure hypothetical and an emotion free zone. If you can't handle this then I strongly suggest you stay out of that thread. I do have sympathy for Clayton and absolutely want to give him a chance to get back to his best, he doesn't have the breakaway speed at the moment and I still occasionally wonder about that hand and if it's impacting his ability to get quick handballs off cleanly. Then there is the mental side that we don't know about, confidence and belief can't be turned on like a tap. These things are a given, the fact of the matter is that he has gone from being an untaggable mid to someone who you can quiet easily if you sit on him and I don't need to tell all of you but the club needs to figure this out soon. He's been through the ringer but has credits in the bank, they've probably had no choice but to play him in games to build that fitness back and I wouldn't be surprised if we start seeing good form towards the end of the year. We all love Clayton Oliver and want nothing but the best for him, but we also love freedom of speech and shouldn't be silencing people for making discussion.

  15. He’s not underperforming. He’s the foundation of our forward half pressure. Plenty on here bemoan perceived lack of effort or care. Chandler’s not hitting the scoreboard as much as we’d like but he’s bringing the effort and intensity.

  16. I thought I heard on radio today that he is still averaging just under 25 disposals a game in 2024. That means he is #1 on the MFC list for average disposals to this point in time this year. So much silly talk here about trading him... Sheeesh!

  17. Clarry has done enough for MFC to deserve some breathing space to get back on track. Get a proper pre-season into him and hopefully he gets back to what he was next year.

  18. Love fans who expect loyalty from players, but are willing to trade one of our greatest ever players because he’s having a down year due to complex factors. The melts on here over Grundy playing well for Sydney are nothing compared to the melts we will see if Clarry goes on to be a star elsewhere. Luckily that won’t happen.

  19. Well done AMW! Very happy to see so many players getting an opportunity this year! We’ve got a glut of players on our list who have served a solid VFL apprenticeship and it’s great to see they’re finally getting their chance. We need a mini-rebuild / refresh of the team and it’s exciting to see who will be part of it going forward.

I'm sure I have overlooked someone! In fact, as limited as I am, I can't think of any other player across the competition that has this sort of Resume in the most recent quarter century. Silly me, I'm sure there are heaps... but I bet my bottom dollar, the supporters of those other teams weren't/aren't debating whether to offload their champions!

  24. Agree with all your points except the last. You cannot debut a guy as sub who is a father / son and passionate demon supporter, bring him on with 8 minutes to go, busts his [censored] unlike some in the team and lays a game saving tackle and then send him back to Casey. I know our player management / selection has been questionable but that would be a new low.

  25. Clarry is still in the top 40 for the whole competition for average disposals for 2024. He is ahead of quite a few of the AFL 'midfield darlings' on that list!

  26. Anyone who has experienced sudden onset medical trauma will tell you how awful and traumatic it can be. I was rushed to emergency surgery 6 weeks before my wedding and it was absolutely horrific, not just for myself but for everyone around me. I remember being wheeled off into the OR not knowing if I’ll get to walk down the aisle (spoiler alert: I did!). I hope he takes all the time he needs to recover. Those few weeks after major surgery are the absolute worst. You feel like a sack of [censored] and I can only imagine how difficult that would be for someone as fit and active as Trac.

  27. I'm absolutely stoked that Andy Moniz-Wakefield will be making his debut this Friday against Brisbane. I wouldn't be surprised if he lines up on Zac Bailey and McVee will get Charlie Cameron. There has been plenty of discussion in the last few weeks that AMW should be making his debut soon and his hard work and persistence has paid off. Well done young man. 👏

  30. I said the exact same thing earlier in the thread. I have no problems with the fine. I have a problem that he gets fined while countless other REPEAT OFFENDERS don't. And the pile on has been absolutely pathetic. He has never done this before, and he is as brave as any player out there, and a star to boot. [censored] the media, and [censored] anyone who thinks otherwise.

  31. This. The man has played with a 6cm hamstring tear and broken ribs. He gives his all and goes as hard as anyone. He milked a free kick, so what. Every single player in the league has done that. It's not the best look, but the pile on has been pathetic. Where is the pile on on Lovechild Daicos who drops his knees, raises his arm and pretends to have been shot every time someone touches him? I am sick to death of the AFL and the media constantly picking on our club. Give it a [censored] rest!

  32. First club to be done for tanking, or bringing the game into disrepute for discussing it. First club to have had a top 5 and NGA player taken away from the ability to draft him. First club to lose a player for a legal tackle that accidentally caused a concussion, Chandler. First club to have a player miss effectively a third of that season for a sling tackle, ANB in the covid shortened season. First in most games played against the Cats in Geelong in the last 25 years. First club to have a player suspended indefinitely, without a decision or hearing, for 10 months, for using coke 4 days before a match day. First club to lose a player forever, from a bump that a few months later is deemed illegal. First club to have allegations that the Coach was drinking and gambling with the players. First club to have Directors be sued by the immediate past President. First club to have a goal reviewed and disallowed after the all clear for allegedly having the ball touching the hair of an opposition player without any vision of same. First club to have one player have multiple overturned goals on review, after the all clear by the goal and field umpire ANB. First VFL/AFL club Board actively seeking a merger with another club and and using proxies of non club fans. First club to have a player suspended for standing still, while an opposition player ran into him in a practice game concussing himself, May. I am sure you can all have some fun thinking of some other firsts.

A lot of people on DLand have been calling for your debut including me so we are all looking forward to watching you run out on Friday night. 38. I'm not surprised he got a fine. What I am surprised about is that he's been the only one in the last 12 months. Rules seem to come and go. The AFL makes a point of enforcing rules sporadically and harshly, and then lets them drift off again. Holding the ball decisions have gone back to a negligible level after a supposed rule change. The ball-up rules. Dissent penalties are now non-existent, early on you'd get one for just waving your arms or rolling your eyes. The "umpire-sucker" feigned handball after a mark and "stand" has re-appeared, and umpires are awarding a 50m penalty again, despite the so-called rules tweak last year (see Windsor penalty on Saturday). Push-in-the-back has a different interpretation every week. Fifty-metre penalties are now 70 metres. After the publicity, Staging will probably be next week's "rule of the week". Or forgotten entirely.

  40. Who was the first and only player ever to be suspended for wrestling? Alen Jackovich ( MFC) Who was the first and only player to be suspended for a nearly but missed high tackle? Brett Moloney (MFC) Who was the first player to be suspended for a sling tackle (allegedly causing concussion, though being BOG the following week?) Jack Trengove (MFC) on Patrick Dangerfield (Adelaide) Does paranoia need to be unfounded conspiracy, or does actual conspiracy also count? We were already, this year, when JVR laid a tackle v Carlton (of course) and we scored a winning goal only to be called back for what was universally called out as a staged sling. No MRO there - Carlton exclusions apply. Yes, I am paranoid. My pet hobby horse. A player will some day break his neck when driving headlong into an opponent’s midriff and the opponent will be vilified and made to have lifelong guilt. If every player who did this was penalized every time it would stop immediately, and a true tragedy may be avoided. But the AFL will do nothing until it happens then wring their hands with faux shock and surprise. Far from the first head high attack by Lethal 😡

  41. Fairly certain Taylor's first draft was 2013 with Salem. Wasn't responsible for the selections of Toumpas, Terlich, Kent, Matty Jones etc... I actually rated Kent, shame he was just so injury prone.

  42. https://www.sen.com.au/news/2024/06/25/the-speculation-surrounding-st-kilda-ruckman-and-the-club-that-should-be/ Tom Morris reporting that Rowan Marshal is not all that happy at Saints. I know the duel ruck set up with Grundy didn't work and has left some people scarred, but Ro-Mo is a genuine fwd threat and can play that role, as well as giving Max a very good chop out in the ruck. Will cost a lot to get him, but could it be worth it?

  43. The benefits of hindsight Ted. There were question marks on Charlie's attitude (subsequently caught drink driving in his rookie year and far more time on the sidelines than he should have had with his knee because he wouldn't commit to his rehab properly). He was always a talent, but it wasn't clear whether he'd be a tall mid or a shorter KPP. Carlton took the gamble and it's paid off, but it hasn't delivered a premiership yet and he'd want a better finals series this year or the comparisons with Gary Rohan will come. When you looked at Weid as a package you could understand why he was so attractive as a KPF prospect, he just couldn't get the last bit of the puzzle to fit.

  45. I don’t think he said that as a general rule. I think he said that specifically in reference to our list at the end of 2014. And if he did say it as a general rule, let’s be honest - it’s rubbish. https://www.afl.com.au/news/443933/paul-roos-says-every-demon-is-tradeable

  46. I reckon they’ve been in the window since 2022, but choked their end to 2022 and then flailed around in early-2023. The bones of the list are the same. I am confident if their 2022-23 formline was ours, Demonland would consider those years to be failures when we should have been contending.
