Curtin’s manager said he has talked to the Dees, and that they said they would take him at 6, if he’s still there. Skip ahead to about 10.30 in. https://www.sen.com.au/news/2023/11/07/a-generational-talent-managers-massive-spruik-on-wa-prospect-and-his-message/8 points

until the afl rewrite the rules to be understandable it's impossible to rate umpires (other than terrible) besides, with 4 umpires it's too hard to know which one made any particular decision5 points

I’ve heard the comparisons and would obviously love if we picked him and he became our version of Charlie But tall forwards are just about the hardest position to pick when drafting - there are so many variables when bringing these guys into AFL environments, not least of which is whether their relative size and strength at the junior level will hold up against bigger bodies I like his competitiveness and ability to mark at the highest point - but I just think there are others around him who have more bankable traits that, personally speaking, would compliment our current list better both now and into the future More than happy to be wrong though!4 points

Wouldn't it be great if they can incorporate the digital membership with a standard membership, so it includes admission as well as Kayo.4 points

Yeh we stuffed up a bit.... but that Brisbane win was one of the greatest wins ive seen in person.4 points
-
Jeez I hope not - no disrespect to Caddy but I really don’t think we need to draft a forward with our first pick three years in a row, especially if Sanders, Curtin or even Leake is available (which at least one will be)4 points
-
I just listened and that sounded to me like a bit of a "do the deal eagles" jab. mind you i wouldn't be completely unhappy if we did happen to grab Curtin at 6, though i'm one of the people who really like the look of him as a key forward, he's a good key back, but just something about him as a forward really caught my eye4 points
-
I’m also not convinced we’d make such a commitment to a draftee and his management team.4 points

No longer one of us, but perhaps of interest in the context of current discussions re “culture” at the Dees, given that he was moved on. Hope he finds a good place. https://houseoffooty.com.au/i-was-crying-myself-to-sleep-watts-reflects-on-his-toughest-period/3 points

It’s just sad that his time, was the wrong time. The Club was a mess, searching for an identity. if he was on our list now, he would be a very big and creative cog forward of Centre. i was always sad it just didn’t work out.3 points

Always liked him. Despite everything, as a player he oozed class. If he were starting with us now, with our excellent player development, he would become a champion if he committed himself.3 points

It’ll come - those kids were starting their footy watching during the Neeld era 🤮3 points

Sounds like this guy is going earlier than pick 11 now. Bombers / GWS. Hopefully that trade up to 11 wasn’t for nothing and we still get Leake3 points

Final power rankings from ESPN’s Jasper Chellappah. Has deviated a little from the broad view of some players (eg Caddy higher, Watson lower than other rankings), which I like: https://www.espn.com.au/afl/story/_/id/38843195/afl-draft-power-rankings-2023-jasper-chellappah-harley-reid-number-one-top-50-prospects3 points

I saw just the last 45 minutes but it was great to see. Agree, saying 'it was only Afghanistan' does not do justice to either side. Maxwell took his chances, Afghanistan did not. As Demon fans we know how quickly a game can slip away when that happens.3 points
-
The less talked about part of the innings was that Cummins scored only 12 runs in a 202 partnership. Now scoring only 12 takes some doing!! The way Maxwell was able to keep the strike was quite special. Somehow the Afghanis set fields that left him time to stroll through for singles even tho towards the end he couldn't even walk. He was in The Zone and the AFghans seemed mesmerised.3 points

It was interesting that other clubs are the ones that contacted Jason Dover re:Dees consideration of trading p6 for WCE future 1st. Melb would wargame all poss scenarios, so wouldn't be surprised if we’d talked about potential swap for WCE’s ‘24 1st rounder & then canvassed the clubs with picks 7-10 to see if they would potentially do a deal for 11 & a further pick we would get from WC. They possibly then would have fed that on to Dover, hence the convo & line from Melb. Working to get pick 1 would still be the higher ranked objective, so Dees have to say they’d take Curtin (I’d very much hope he’d be in the frame for us regardless), otherwise you lose all leverage in trade talks. Curtin’s camp probably prefer he stay out West, so serves them well to put that out there one way or another.3 points

I’ve watched a couple of the full allies game replays as well as the video compilations that aren’t just highlights but are every touch and most involvements. Obviously I’m not a recruiter or an expert and it’s not the same as watching live. He’s a really good zoning player who gets to the right spots but in terms of true aerial work he’s got a lot to improve on. Junior talls are rarely great at it and some figure it out from a low base like a Harry McKay. For a top 10 pick on a key defender I’d like someone who displays really natural top end marking like a Gibcus or Jake Lever. Just go through the videos and chart every time he’s involved in a pack or one on one under a high ball and the number of times he takes a mark or gets a clean spoil on the ball.3 points

If we want a home final then Adelaide has to be beaten this weekend or in the prelim. The Lions winning this week and us getting the job done against NM and then Adel at Ikon would be best.2 points

Last year some of the posters said Judd McVee had a poor season and should have been delisted, guess what he proved that he is a good player in the making. Judging players like Jed Adam, Matthew Jefferson and Will Verrall by their development season is like saying Max Gawn will never make it after 3 seasons since he had 2 reconstructions without a pre-season, give them another pre-season and they may blossom?2 points

Think we'll take Caddy with the first pick, hopefully Windsor with the second if he's there2 points

Anyone have a Digital Membership? Looks like good value. Ditch Kayo and get an MFC Digital M'ship, still get Kayo and save $110 p.a. 😊2 points

Sounds like you really enjoyed it as well LH. Before anyone says it was only Afghanistan, it should be said they have some very good players. The fact that every other Aussie batsman failed is proof of their bowling prowess. It's true that Afghanistan's bowlers were loose at times but that was simply down to the pressure of Maxy smacking them all over the ground. Seeing him stand there on one leg was as #WcW mentioned , inspiring. Forget Bazball. #ilovemaxball.2 points

I think the Indian crowd was mostly pro Afghanistan. But you could hear and see their allegiance change as Maxy went about his business. He was cheered on in the end. And why wouldn't they.2 points

Wow that is super by the club, I suppose they have to be more efficient now that we have 70,000 members. 😁2 points

His best shot was a reverse sweep, around the stumps rising into the air, over first slip, over third man and went deep into the crowd for six. It was at a critical time when he couldn't move, they hadn't scored much for a few overs and time appeared to be running out. If he hadn't hit so many great shots it could be thought a fluke. It was no fluke!! I don't know how to post videos but follow this link: https://www.icc-cricket.com/video/37727792 points

From purely watching highlights(I assume that’s what we all go off, Which is why I’ll be very happy with what ever JT comes up with) this guy looks incredible , hits the ball hard both in the air and ground level and you can tell he will fill into a big body . Go check out Harry Mckays highlights at under 18 level he was so skinny ! apparently growth and development has come on rapidly this year so could be plenty more upside to go. have you seen him play how do you know he doesn’t win enough contests? Love hearing from those who have actually watched full games . I just wanted to know2 points

Gabby is still on rehab, she was doing some strengthening work inside on her achilles before joining the main group.2 points

They are calling it one of the best innings ever in cricket and I missed it. There must be a replay on Fox to watch.2 points

I have heard if we keep 6, we’ll take Caddy. In saying that we are definitely open to trading it to WC for their future 1st.2 points

The Pies have been training the [censored] out of these situations and it's really showed, it's not just pure luck that they keep winning close games, they've build an incredibly strong defense to keep them in games even when it's not all on their terms and have this trump card to win these really close games. it's very very clever2 points

There’s been some talk that we could be interested in James Leake at pick 6 Not a key position player by any stretch but has shown a lot of versatility playing as an intercept defender at half back, as well as a forward and midfielder (sometimes in the same game) Could alleviate the concern that we’d be taking two pure midfielders2 points

I'm not going to argue that the AFL is totally transparent, trustworthy and not keen on maximising revenue, occasionally by foul means, but mostly fair. However, the paranoia in here is beyond extreme. Gill doesn't set his salary level - this will almost certainly be set by the Board of the Commission using a number of internal and external benchmarks. Gill is not incompetent/inept/corrupt. For example, to keep the comp going during COVID-19 was an extraordinary achievement. Anyone who watched his press interviews during that time would have seen a man deprived of sleep and under tremendous pressure. Commercially and financially the comp is in the best condition is living memory. His management of the huge, self-interested and toxic egos in clubland is extraordinary. The list is long, but we can start with Triple Chins, Kennett and Cochrane. I wouldn't have any of them within 100 metres of my home, let alone pay me enough to work with them. Regarding the fixture, yes it's mostly %$&*)@, but I've yet to hear practical solutions to all the dilemmas the fixture throws up. Putting a bandaid on one wound simplely creates another wound elsewhere. Yes, the The umpiring standards, MOR and score review system is completely %$&*)@ and should be improved - no doubt about that and I cannot defend it. There is no doubt Goyder is incompetent and should not be the chair of a major sporting competition (let alone an airline) - and I cannot defend that. And finally, to say the AFL are the most corrupt sporting organization on the planet is beyond extreme. Anyone noticed the BCCI, OIC or FIDA lately? They place the corporate corruption and organisational toxicity and incompetence of the Federal Reserve, Fanny Mae and Freddy Mac, Credit Suisse and Bear Stearns in the veritable shade.2 points

I should save myself time and find a post from another thread. But the gist of it is: Pros: - Perfect size, shape. Going to be a very big unit - Without knowing testing numbers seems a very good, maybe even great athlete - Gets to good positions, racks up the ball - Exceptional with the ball on the deck especially by hand Cons - Just doesn't win enough aerial contests. Gets out marked and lets the ball get over the back too frequently for an elite prospect I wouldn't completely dismiss him, he's still a good prospect, but I wouldn't be sold on him going top 7. More 8-12.2 points

Takes some kids a bit longer to adjust to the professionalism required. I wouldn't discount him just yet.2 points
