  3. Went along today and all I'll say is that as disappointing a loss as today was for Casey, it was as equally an impressive win for Richmond. Winning at Casey Fields is not easy, and they ran and spread really well from contest to contest while nullifying our run. They were also very accurate in front of goal, at one stage being 14.4 while at one point we were 2.10. That there was the game. My take outs from this week. 1. James Harmes has given himself every chance of a recall. He was clearly our best and competed all day. 2. Casey's senior players are very important. No Munro, no White and no Buntine today and Casey lost. There should have been enough AFL experience out there to cover, however you could tell that senior core was still missed. Especially Munro. 3. Top heavy Casey. Today Casey went in with Bell in the ruck, Farris-White 2nd ruck, Brown, McDonald, Jefferson and Sestan forward. As a result Richmond ran the ball out of the back line with ease and got to 28 points in front. Casey started to get back into it once McDonald moved into the ruck and Casey ensured they always had at least 2 of Bell, Farris-White, Brown, Jefferson or McDonald on the bench and improved their run across the ground. This could mean we won't see Bell with Casey for a while. 4. Bad kicking = Bad football. Casey had more scoring shots and could have easily won had they converted better. Mean while Richmond converted most opportunities and deserved their victory. Until next time.

  4. I always look at the bright side. It’s one of the reasons everybody loves me (the other 2 reasons are that I’m drop dead gorgeous, and that I’m very humble).

  6. How great of the football club to let Mitch White partake in the rehab group with the footy club. Absolutely no coincidence our AFL and VFL alignment is one of not best in the country.

  7. The rehab was working hard. All sprinting, like they were achieving, under distance and time restrictions. Salem, M.White, J. Smith, Spargo and another VFL player. M. White and Salem continued to run laps. Spargo and J.Smith attended some drills. Smith's thumb still giving him some concern, as he attended to it a few times after marking. First out on the field, 4 minutes before the rest of the squad, was the backline (Petty not with them). It looks like they want to go well after last week's effort. The drills started a bit low-key, and they were slightly off, iffy, clean handling and distribution. The second drill, they started finding their voice and skills improved. The third drill and they're humming, They spilt into two groups, that both worked on ball movement from the backs, thoughtfully to mids and finding angles and passes to advantage into the forwards. Finished the session with goal kicking. Tracc and Lever looking very good. Gawn started with some resistance work and joined in all the drills (ready to go). Did lots of work as a forward. L.Bailey is looking very smooth when moving and kicking. The effort and intensity was much higher than the other Captain runs I have seen. Go Dees

  9. Give it a [censored] rest, will you. If there’s more than one way to say something, without exception you’ll choose the most belligerent, abrasive way of saying it. It’s unpleasant and unnecessary.

  10. It was a bad day for most. No need to stick the boots in, and write anyone off. We will need 3-4 of those guys to gain confidence and play a roll if we are going to go deep in 2023.

  11. If Melbourne puts the same application in tomorrow night as most of their counterparts at Casey, we’ll be moaning about a similar outcome. That was poor today.

  12. Know what you mean about the past but think you're being a bit tough on Jefferson. He's already double the size he was when drafted so now only half the size he has to be. He's already put on more bulk than someone like Wattsy ever managed. He's also showing promising signs in competitiveness and contested marking. There's reasons to be a bit more optimistic than that.

  18. I was at Casey on Friday and saw he copped a knock about half way through the session. He went off for treatment on the sidelines and didn’t finish the session, only some runs along the boundary. Just an observation.

  21. Currently toiling away from the SANFL after starting his career off well. Kicked 32 goals in just his second AFL season. Talls are he'll be assessing his options at years end with a few Vic clubs interested. He's 191cm tall forward who plays more of 3rd option. Everyone remembers our significant interest in the 2020 draft where we were hoping he'd slip to our second pick (Trent Rivers pick). https://www.sen.com.au/news/2023/04/21/his-future-would-be-in-question-whats-next-for-overlooked-georgiades/

  22. Adelaide will make the eight. The expansion sides will determine whether we get ND4, ND5, or ND6. WCE, Haw, NM are not going to be anywhere other than bottom 3 and Tigers won’t stay below Freo. Pretty good place to be. Chance for ND4 I reckon. GC will win games at home and Darwin and GWS will pull off upsets when their stars shine.

  23. Watched the game today. I made comments after the Essendon game that the likes of McDonald and Tomlinson should not pull on the red and blue jumper again unless we are depleted with injury. On today's performance I'd be happy for them to stay at Casey for the rest of the year regardless. For senior players that was pretty woeful performance on their standard. They've given us great service especially McDonald, but they honestly cooked. Not many winners there today. Dunstan and Harmes the only two that can hold their head up high. Dunstan needs to be rewarded for form. Absolute joke that Sparrow has done nothing since 2021 and gets a free ride while guys like Dunstan and Laurie are putting on consistent performance at VFL level for little reward this year. Missing the likes of Buntine, White and Munro will always cost you at VFL level. These guys are the absolute heartbeat of the team and drive high standards. I counted 3 AFL listed players for Richmond today compared to ours which had 14 AFL listed players. So yes, very embarrassing loss. Hopefully this doesn't flow onto Tomorrow night.

  24. I think it depends on who's out from the Seniors. Tomlinson is a lock-down defender. He's a naural (although clearly inferior) replacement for May. The problem last week was he was brought in as a replacement for Lever and he can't play that role. So Tomlinson for May, Turner for Lever. Sparrow should stay in ahead of Dunstan imo. Sparrow has continuing upside and Dunstan is pure depth. I think Demons supporters are overreacting. A 12 point loss is not a disaster, given who we were missing. The top level VFL players are crucial as they actually care how Casey perform, they're not playing for their future in the AFL system. Jimmy Munro for me is the most important player in the Casey side, ahead of any Melbourne-listed player. I agree. Clearly after 5 games in the VFL we should write him off as having no future. Seriously!

  26. Sorry, that's not quite right. Decimal currency came in on 14 February 1966. The metric system for weights and measures was not introduced until 1971. There was an exception to allow the term "Collingwood 6 footer" to continue to be used to describe people who were just under 183cm, as long as they were also either illiterate, in gaol or both.

  30. Went to watch Grandson play today in a under 17 praccy game for Mt Gravatt against Broadbeach and didn't realise that Kalani was playing until I saw him and Jeff after the game. He did not dominate however he looks like a lad that could develop into a very good player. Some nice grabs and goals. He towers over his old man but needs some filling out. Chatted briefly with Jeff after game and despite our loss Friday he reckons we will go OK. Love the confidence. Funny weekend as met another White yesterday at Granddaughters basketball but this time a ex Lions player who in my view was a great player in Darryl.

  33. Yuck! Petty is not a forward. In certain matches where the game needs a change I don’t mind him swinging down there to try something different but starting him there is not the way to go in my opinion. He’s a starting centre half back and that’s that. I’ll die on this hill😂 To add to this, I thought in the second half last week Petty really grew into the game and gained some confidence back with his intercept marking and reading of the play. So swinging him forward and disrupting that momentum that he looked to gain again seems very unnecessary.

  34. Team looks a lot better with Max, Lever and Hibberd back in! Schache as the sub, giving us something to fall back on either forward, back or ruck seems a good option, as we are going in one tall down in the forward line!

  40. Was it Jack Dyer when Richmond's captain or coach who told his team mates to "line up alphabetically by height"? (Which makes sense for our two Smiths and two Turners).

  41. Guessing that no.62 is Cooper Simpson, the young Stingrays mid that trained with us as part of the Academy program. Keen to see how he goes, looks a good prospect in that 15-20 range at this stage. Edit: Just saw the '23 draft prospects page which confirms all of the above via a Cal Twomey tweet from 4 hours ago!

  42. The best our forward line looked was against Sydney when we were a lot more mobile with Petty, Fritsch and JVR as our main keys for the day. All 3 provide defensive pressure when the ball hits the ground where as Tmac defensive game is non existent. I didn't fall for his 4 goal performance like some did against half a WAFL side. No coincidence that he plays well against the worst team in the comp but fails to perform against 3 other teams he's come up against. So that's why he's 'omitted' again this week.
