Really great day. Wonderfully organized by the club. I thought the presentation was wonderful. Great to have Jones and Jetta farewelled properly. Amazing to see Daniher so emotional. Fantastic for the players to have their kids and partners there too. Well done to the club. This will never replace the joy of seeing this happen live, and hopefully we can experience that in 2020, but it was a wonderful experience nonetheless.14 points

Just a thoroughly enjoyable occasion. The crowd re-lived every goal like it was live. There was so much joy and emotion, even seeing grown men hugging during the replay. The roar when Wiz and Schwarta got their hands on the cup was awesome but the standing ovation for Neale stole the show for me and was a tear jerker. I’m so stoked he got to see a flag and enjoy this occasion today. There is a serious sense of belonging to this club at the moment, and it’s not going to go away any time soon. Thankyou MFC13 points

That was a great day. Obviously nothing would equal being at the game for the win but I feel like the season is now complete, we actually did win it and now it’s time to move on. i feel like the club did a great job, I certainly appreciate the effort they went to in putting this together. Looking forward to being at the G next year as we win another, Go Dees!11 points

Well done to all involved in organising that. What a great day. Garry as MC was a good choice. He is just a natural public speaker Loved how they did the premiership cup relay like format. Loved seeing former players there including McDonald, Schwarz, farmer, Grinter &any of the older legends. Can't help but think of Jim & how he would have enjoyed this. Good to see Todd Viney be part of the cup presentation & I hope he & jack get a photo of the cup together. Good to hear Simon speak and can I just say how amazing Neale daniher is. Yes his speech has virtually gone & his hands have weakened but to walk up on stage on his own & stand there then continue to walk around the ground, just so good to see him there. And it was bloody good to be back at the G11 points

Great day at the 'G. Robbo and Clint as hosts were really, really good. Replay was brilliant. The booing of Caleb Daniel, the brutality of Viney crunching opposition players, the crowd reaction to the 3 late third quarter goals was immense. 35000 Dees fans going off was brilliant. Singing The Grand Old Flag at the game's end was very loud, and I belted it our until I was hoarse. The kick for cash with Rigoni and Leoncelli was so well done because they both almost got it in twice. Robbo and his band: I was expecting cringe-worthy mediocrity. But they were fantastic. Great song choice which helped, energetic, and perfectly suited to the day. Past players were a real highlight. To have Steve Smith and Gary Hardeman carry it together really spoke of the agony of 57 years. A huge shout for Ox and Wiz as they handed it over to Brad Green and James MacDonald, who in turn gave it to Jones and Jetta. Garry Lyon was a wonderful MC. Funny, focused and inviting. Biggest highlight was the crowd reaction to Neale Daniher. Standing ovation that went on and on, and he himself got quite emotional. Big Max giving a great brief chat with that quirky grin on its face, and Goody given his chance at last. And the cup held high! And pre-season starts in earnest tomorrow - Carna Dees!10 points

Had a wonderful day. Went with dad, my brothers and their families. Really lovely day. I saw the grand final with dad but this was the first with my brothers. Although I know it off by heart, still cheering like it was the first time (felt a bit silly.) The presentation felt a bit artificial but I do like that they do it for us. I was so glad that all of us (father, brothers, nieces and nephews) all got their photo with the cup. We got the photo with the replica cup and naively thought it was the real one. We were ready to go, but then we saw the line. We realised it was for the other cups. Almost didn’t go as only the 1959, 1960 and 1964 ones are authentic. Since the line wasn’t too bad, we decided what the hey. Sure enough we get in and see it’s a 2021 cup. Our first reaction is: huh? So we get our photo all together. Got a bit suspicious when brother is told to “keep his hands off.” Not sure what’s going on, we go back to the other cup. After some searching, we finally see where it says it’s a replica. We were totally fooled. I would have been horrified if we’d realised we’d only got a photo with a replica cup. Where I was we were caught in a wind pocket. Unfortunately I only wore my demons gurnsey with jeans, so I started getting freezing. By the second quarter I was so cold, I didn’t know how I would cope. Luckily my older brother is a true gentleman and let me wear his jumper, even though it was like a tent on me. All in all a great day. Can’t wait to do it again next year. Hoping we still have a family day pre-season.10 points

I timed my run beautifully, got to my seat a minute or so before Gus took the mark and put us in front. Had great seats down near the boundary and the club did a great job getting the past players involved. Particularly loved seeing Junior McDonald there, Schwarta, Wiz, Neitz, Febey (not sure which one?) and of course the Rev. Trav Johnstone looked like he was having a good day, I also saw Tingay, Newport, Green, Steve Smith, Strawbs O'Dwyer, Greg Healy and a bunch of others I've forgotten to mention. There was one player I couldn't pick though, was wearing number 9 in a late 90s/early 2000s iPrimus jumper which wouldve been the era Neitz wore it. Looked to young to be Alan Johnson so not sure who it was anyone have an idea? It was a really good day put on by the club, much better than I expected. I saw some kids towards the end of the replay getting a bit bored so was glad I left mine at home. Lots of talk around doing it again in 2022, going back to back etc let's hope the club can build off this and create a dynasty with this list.10 points

Other than that great day. I got a tad emotional when Neale got up. Was also a great touch passing the cup to different generations before it hit the stage. The ox and wiz got a massive cheer10 points

A good day but sadly not the joy of the real day. Still we won the premiership and that is the big one. IMO it was a well planned day that went off well. Gary was a good MC.10 points

Yep, he & the ox handed the cup to Jones & nev to present to max. Love the way they did the cup presentation.10 points

Gary Lyon as MC introduced Salem as the greatest ever number 3 for the club, but immediately followed that with a ‘[censored]’ under his breath, that was evident to all. Like most of the others who attended, I found the entire post replay presentation moving and exciting. I think I’ve watched the replay too many times and couldn’t get overwhelmed again. Robbo and band were surprisingly outstanding in my opinion, whilst the ‘relay’ of ex players with trophy in hands was a wonderful touch. It was an almost surreal experience to be amongst so many like-minded Dees’ supporters, and I truly believe a Demon juggernaut has been released.9 points

Just got home from what was a great day. The club did a fantastic job to organise this for us & how good was the applause for Neil Daniher when he got up on the stage? Very emotional. Just loved Hibbo's mini run to boundary with the cup too.😁9 points

How many tears can a 55 year Dees supporter cry? Not through sadness, but unbridled joy. Neale Daniher is a marvel and will always be in Melbourne's heart of hearts. Every heart beats true, but none stronger and longer than Neale Daniher. Always Melbourne Neale.https://twitter.com/melbournefc/status/14673544805218017308 points

Listened to the Ox on his show this arvo at 5. He said it was a great day and better than he expected. He said he knew it would be a good day but it was great seeing past players & he said he put the sunnies on when Neale went up because he got that emotional. Am I right in saying that the children that presented the medals were children of past players? because I heard Gaz say Neita's daughter was presenting and I think she gave Spargo his medal. Also I love this photo of the past players taken on stage.8 points

A wonderful day. My highlight was all the children decked out in red and blue. I think our club is in good hands for the next fifty years. Thanks to the MFC for going so far to make everyone feel involved. PS: Robbo and his band are rather good !8 points

American folk singer, Steve Goodman was a classmate of Hillary Rodham Clinton back in their native Chicago in the 1950s where both grew up as fans of the Chicago Cubs who played baseball out of the famous Wrigley Field and had long been denied of the ultimate in the sport’s success. Goodman was a devoted Cubs fanatic and when he wrote "A Dying Cub Fan's Last Request", they had already waited seven long decades to reach the pinnacle of a triumph in the World Series and were to wait four more before winning it at last in 2016. The song resonates with all sports fans who follow teams that seem perennially doomed to failure and, until very recently, it was an anthem for us long term supporters of the Melbourne Demons, forever hoping for a miracle in their lifetime. Today at the MCG, we will gather together at our game’s birthplace and our team’s spiritual home to watch a replay of a sporting contest that took place in another place at a time when we were all locked down and isolated from our team. We’ll mingle with each other, meet the players and catch a glimpse of the premiership cup. We’ll be there to celebrate the miracle of victory and also to bury forever the curse that hung long over our shoulders as it did for poor Steve Goodman who succumbed to leukemia in September, 1984 at the young age of 36. This isn’t just for us — it’s for Steve and for all sports fans who missed out on the opportunity to savour a day like today.7 points

I feel this is the end of celebrating. On to 2022, with clear heads, wholeheartedly and unafraid. 2021 is now history.7 points

In my infinite wisdom I brought a throw rug which saved my mum recently out of hospital from pulling the pin and going home. It was very important to me that I go with her cause it was my grandpa (her dad) who put me onto the Dees as a young lad fresh down from Brisbane. I consider that blanket football royalty now, and my decision to bring it an absolute win.7 points

Happy for all the fans that got to attend today, i was blessed to attend live here in Perth and still riding on the high of the win. I hope today on the rewatch those that missed out got to feel something close to what i did. One of the things i'll never forget about this premiership is the reaction i saw from my family, they were as excited as i was when we had won. They've all seen multiple premierships on the TV supporting the Eagles and Hawks, but never had the opportunity to attend a grand final before. They all said it was the best experience going to the footy they've ever had and they were all as emotional as me and all the Dee's fan sitting around me in the cheer squad when we blitzed the doggies.7 points

My dear brother died in 2004 aged just 44. A more avid Dees fan you would never have met. Along with my red and blue eyed mother who also succumbed to the dreaded C in 2007 they will be in my thoughts today. Mum who lived through many flags often would say to her three sons " Oh I just want to live to see a flag with my boys"! Sadly it was not to be but they will both be part of the celebrations today. As a footnote, we sprinkled some of my brothers ashes on the 50m arc at the Punt road end in 2005 only for the arena to be dug up for the Comm Games in 2006. Luckily we had enough left to repeat the dose in 2007! Go Dees!7 points

When the dwarf threw our captain, that was the signal to start "that ten minutes" and that's when the crowd came to life. It became clear that everyone was waiting for "that ten minutes", and before and after was something of an anticlimax. The presentation part was something they could not have done the same way on a "pleasant Sunday morning" straight after the GF, and it was fantastic to have former champs, current (non-hungover) players, kids, wives & girlfriends ... we really are the true family club. To have Nathan and Nev included and an integral part of the ceremony was a wonderful way to acknowledge and thank them. All in all, a fulfilling and rewarding experience. We really did it! Melbourne, premiers! GO DEMONS!!!6 points

I cried. Now I have closure on 2021 and I hope the way I feel is the same as the players. We HAVE to win in 2022 at the MCG. I'm not complete and satisfied until that happens.6 points

I just loved how many young kids and families were there on the day. The club is clearly trying to push for that next generation of supporters, and I think the strategy is working - just need those 5-10 year olds to experience another 5-10 years of success and they'll be hooked for life. (mwahahahaha it's all proceeding according to plan)6 points

I reckon that was Andrew Leoncelli, who did the Kick for Cash at Quarter time with Guy Rigoni, but for some reason he was wearing a No 9 jumper.6 points

Watching the second quarter was magic - the mosy important quarter of the game. The time when we made then work their butts off to get the ball out of their defence. Another 15 minutes in the third and they were so stuffed they couldn’t raise a gallop for the rest of the game. Robbo and his band make Birds of Tokyo look almost like Meatloaf.6 points

Fair play to Robbo. His band are pretty tight. Much better than I expected6 points

Among the things we learned at today’s celebration of the 2021 premiership is that preseason training starts tomorrow. Not sure where or whether the entire list will be on hand but I’m told that we start our campaign with little in the way of injuries to worry about at this stage. We also know some of our interstaters are still home - Luke Jackson and Kozzie Pickett along with our WA recruits who most likely will remain in WA until post Christmas. We look forward to the return of our track watchers and the arrival of new ones on the scene.5 points

Lived vicariously through the snippets posted on social media and the Demonland commentary. I’m actually spewing I missed this more than not being able to get to the GF, which even in normal circumstances I probably wouldn’t have been able to get to anyway. Sounds like it was a great day.5 points

I'm loving Kate Rofey the more I see of her. Loved the fact she highlighted Kozzie's bump on Hunter. The after her speach she picked her beer and kept drinking it as she walked back towards the players race whilst posing for selfies with supporters.5 points

Wow, what a great turn out and what a good run sheet the club put on Was a great atmosphere, some really big cheers as we piled on the goals! Great to see all the past players, and the passing of the Cup. Big cheer for the Wizard! And he luv'd every bit of it. 🏆❤💙🏆5 points

It’s completely subjective - many players peak at 19, others aren’t even considered by recruiters until they’re 22. Its seemed over the years, the general consensus is 26 - 29 is the sweet spot for age, strength, durability and experience. Looking at recent Brownlow winners, though an imperfect metric, gives us some idea… Dangerfield 26yo Martin 26yo Mitchell 25yo Fyfe 27yo Neale 27yo Wines 26yo5 points

I would have thought 25-27. Depending on your strength, even longer. For example Robert Harvey could run all day and no one could keep up with him. Trac missed a year with a knee and i dont think has peaked yet and Oliver hasn't (I hope). As our goal to goal line is almost old enough to play for Geelong then yes another tall is required.5 points

I was very impressed by the water carrier trainers during the finals in Perth They did a great job. The studious guy with the glasses, the perky little blond girl and the cheerful stocky guy with the Mohawk hair were memorable in their roles after every goal. They had to work extra hard to provide liquid nourishment because there was a glut of goals.4 points
