  1. Jesus Christ, I’m usually a bit of a pessimistic supporter, but some of you lot are next level.

  3. As an aside, I loved seeing Brad Green back in an MFC polo. The guy is a club legend, and (as everyone knows) he has endured seriously tragic and unwanted life experience in recent times - and he’s handled it with true class, integrity and courage. In this context, it was really pleasing to see him welcoming Kysaiah to the club on the MFC’s behalf. We had an appalling season this year - but it’s reassuring to see that the professional and respectful standards that we’ve displayed in recent years are still very apparent from the club.

  4. Listen, regardless of how we feel about this pick right now, the least we can do is get behind the kid. He clearly has some attributes that can make him a star and, until we see him in a few years time, I think we can at least try and hold off on the wrist slashing.

  5. loved the tears from his grandma and serious look of pride from Goody in the wash up. we really wanted him and it means a huge amount to him and his family. can't love it enough. the follow up shepherd he laid in his highlights on tv was enough to say yep worth every cent

  6. He is literally the type of player we as supporters have been calling out for and now the pick we use is too high? Build a bridge, and go support another team if everything is going to be negative. Welcome Kozzie I dare say you will be a fan favourite very quickly and shut up some of these key board warriors pretty quickly.

  7. I am not very good at reporting the drills, find it boring Suffice to say most of the drills were similar to those described on Monday They did do yet another weird one where they rolled on the ground and another player jumped over them , then laid on tbe ground etc etc will post a pic, used to do this as part of battle training in the Army 40 years ago Oliver annoys me, minding his own business waiting to join in drill, a loose ball bounces behind him, one handed flicks it over his head, catches and handballs to a player running past all in one motion Had a good chat to a guy leaning on the fence, seemed very knowledgeable, it was Jeff Gieschen

  8. Supposedly a ruckman, but that’s a whole highlights package of contested marks. Bloody exciting!

  9. Trac took part in grappling drill and buried somebody into the turf, so you can assume he is ok

  10. Did you see his face? It’s obvious to me that he is going to get us into a grand final in 2021, and with the opportunity to kick the winning goal, will turn on an angle and kick the ball straight into the crowd, just to mess with us. He will also steal some people here’s superannuation in a Ponzi scheme.

  11. I hope we give him a Queens Birthday debut because that’s like our grand final

  12. This draft period has been great, with pick trading, intrigue, bidding, and being linked with unconventional players whose selection will annoy large parts of the Demonland population. But there's only one thing that I'm disappointed about, and that's Gold Coast getting pick 2 instead of us ..... .... because this place would have been like the apocalypse if we had have selected Jackson and passed on Anderson!

  13. Picked far too early. Tonight should have been Green & Kemp. Ridiculous recruiting by this club once again

  15. Just to put things in perspective on people saying that he is a bit of a reach. Hawthorn, Port, and Western Bulldogs are clubs all ready to pounce on Pickett in those early selections in the teens hence why we are set to use pick 10 on him. Hawthorn at 11 and Bulldogs at 13 are the ones who have put in a lot of work into him and ones that also invited him to draft night tonight. I dont think we'll split 10 purely on the basis that he will be gone by mid teens. So yes, we aren't the only ones willing to use an early pick on Kozzy.

  16. Spot on. My heart is already invested in this kid. Will likely be a personal favourite for me very early into his MFC career. This kid is just what this club was crying out for. In spades. Bring on 2020. My heart’s beating again.

  17. X-factor, goal sense, loves smashing blokes and can turn games in minutes. Massive reach? You need to reach for the tissues. This bloke will win games off his own boot.

  18. Key position players should be the number one priority in the first round, but ruckmen are not key position players. The issue with all of Cook, Weideman and Watts is/was the lack of hunger for the contest. Weideman in particular with his size should be crashing packs and knocking blokes over, but he plays like he has the build of Fritsch or Hannan. He was simply a poor selection given the other key forwards in that draft. Back on Jackson, I'll be bitterly disappointed if we select him. There is little chance we can develop him as a ruckman with Gawn and Preuss dominating game time at both AFL and VFL level, unless we have injuries. There is very little evidence that he can play as a genuine key forward and any thought of him playing as a midfielder is pure speculation. Ruckmen are inconsequential to building a premiership team, hence why only one ruck taken with a first round draft pick in the past 20 years has played in a premiership. Key position players and genuine midfielders should be our only thoughts in the first round of the draft. That is what premiership teams are built on.

  19. Compared to last year it has been a pretty weak draft for names. Now that I've seen his full name is Kysaiah Kropinyeri-Pickett I'm completely sold. Who's down with K.K.P - yeah, you know - me.

  20. Is it me or does those highlights when he's clucking those big marks remind anyone of when Mitch Clark was at his best for us back in 2012? We are apparently going to train him into a key forward which excites me even more now.

  21. Yeah I guess the Tigers shouldn't have drafted Rance when they were crap. Or Hawthorn when they were damn ordinary, what they hell were they doing drafting Buddy Franklin. Geelong with a great culture obviously were right to pick Tim Kelly, he was always going to stay right? Time to make the culture in to one of success and that starts with recruiting the best talents and keeping them.

  22. I really like the Adam Goodes comparison that @DeeZee made today in this thread. If we take Jackson we think Goodes is the type of player he might become. Better role comparison than Grundy or Buddy.

  23. Also in the handball drill , they must hit the target person on the full, and also the player with ball, must not be able to be touched by a defender. If any of these happens, the ball is turned over to the other side. The object of the drill is to handball a goal, and the teams are evenly paired. This drill and others are so much more intense than LY. Even the match simulation was even numbers per team, and again a mistake meant a side losing the ball in another area, others were been showed how to tackle better, by starting lower down when tacking.

  24. Because, Hogan aside (with his unique situation), the last time we had someone leave Melbourne to go 'home' to WA was Jeff Farmer and Troy Longmuir ... nearly 20 years ago (2000 and 1999). The last player to go 'home' anywhere was Scott Thompson in 2004. As a risk it's way over-played, particularly for players leaving Melbourne.

  25. I believe this is Taylor’s first round drafting history at Melbourne - Salem, Petracca, Brayshaw, Oliver, Weideman Pretty solid. I am backing him in tonight

  26. Maybe we need to rethink the way we acclimatise Jackson to Melbourne. The current plan seems to be boarding with a caring host family then quickly in to a share house with team mates in a nice inner city suburb with lots of things to see and do. We might be better off just dumping him in a dilapidated house in Cranbourne (near to Casey) or even better Frankston (right by the beach) with a few meth addicted neighbours and plenty of bogan in the air. Buy him a jetski and he won't even know the difference (until June).

  27. I’m off work at the moment so watched almost the entire AFL Draft telecast via the app. Cal Twomey said that he had asked a number of recruiters who they’d take at three and he said the majority did not hesitate to say Jackson. I know this fact won’t sway the Demonland experts but seriously cannot wait to giggle at the reaction on here to Jackson’s name being called at Pick 3.

  28. AFL are looking at halving half time break. Going to 10 minutes instead of 20 minutes, as reported on 7 News. To take place next season. I don’t know how much it’d impact players. Would impact my ability to slot a beer at half time.

  29. Why the hell didnt they release those highlights BEFORE the draft! Looks like a totally different player, holy [censored]. I think he can play forward. Looks amazing, some great marks and goals and hes has a nice form on his set shot. WELCOME LJ!

  30. Oh [censored] Bianco, Worrel and Sharp all still there too! That’s Robertson, Taylor, Gould, Rivers, Sharp, Bianco, Worrel, Schoenberg, Williams all still there. Pick 28 could turn out to be a ripper for us! Exciting!!!

  31. Love it. Can't wait to watch him. I genuinely miss the excitement that Wona, Davey, Jurrah, the Wiz, Pickett, Whelan, Garlett brought to our footy club with pace, hardness, skill and brilliant footwork. Looks like this kid has it in spades. The extra dimension we have missed after drafting so many of the same players for years. Now we (hopefully) have a quality one to make a difference.

  32. So in a nutshell you say we should bid on Green to deny GWS an additional pick even if we rate Jackson higher. I say we should just take who we want and let the cards fall. There are 16 other clubs as well as GWS Rusty, we need to be the best we can be, not sacrifice outselves for the whole competition. Anyway I've had my say.

  34. Stand out again Petracca There is definite desire to bring more physicality to our game, hence all the solid contact drills There is also an emphasis on burst speed, in the handball driill they are being encouraged to run and also chase of course Early days but Trac, Salem, Oliver and Brayshaw ssemed to have increased their leg speed, maybe told to Jordon is with the mids if they break up into recognisable grouos

  35. I think that you should switch your allegiance to Collingwood if the intellect of Demonlanders threatens you! ?

  36. ...and they all would have taken Scully at 1 ahead of Martin at 3. Let's hope we get the right one at 3.

  37. I have questioned the possible Jackson pick, as have many others. If we take him, I will still be very excited. He will be a Demon player, thats all that matters. Also I have been wanting the club for years to bring in some X factor and flair, and they are doing that. Its great.

  38. Interesting hearing Brendan McCartney in his draft-related article today talking about things he looks for in players, wondered if this may potentially relate to how we see Pickett: For different reasons, neither Bontempelli nor Oliver was talked up as a top pick midway through his draft year. “Bonti” wasn’t always in the game, but when he was you just thought “wow”.

  39. Rusty you've spent a lot of time looking a vision but you are missing something if you think we are solely drafting a ruckman. He's a high possession winning tall who Taylor believes will play forward. We aren't drafting a ruckman. It's frustrating that there is a lack of vision of him playing forward but Taylor has seen him do this multiple times. You're flying blind, he isn't. Again I haven't seen Green play but I see in two phantom drafts now that predict he is unlikely to be bid on until later in the top 10. These guys are professional recruiters, they want to keep their job so they do as well as they can. If the first (say) 8 clubs don't bid on Green then how silly would we be to do it. This draft speculation is lots of fun but we are amateurs with only part of the information and vision the recruiters have. Time to trust their judgement.

  40. I suspect after we select Jackson we will release some new footage of him that will change a lot of people’s opinion about us picking him.

  41. For years Ive watched the NBA and seen 200cm+ point guards with incredible movement and athleticism and wondered when we will see an athlete like that in the AFL instead of our 200cm+ ruckman who are mostly slow and cumbersome. Buddy is the closest we have had. Jackson could have that potential???? We can all hope.
