  1. Good luck mate All the best Jack Always be a Demon for mine. Stuck at it when many would have withered. A top bloke by al accounts. Enjoy your life son.

  2. He’s a valuable player simply because he’s versitile, strong, mature and consistent. Having players like that mean you can shift them from role to role as injuries take their toll on various parts of the ground while maintaining team balance and cohesion. One issue (flaw) with several of our mids is they struggle to impact outside the midfield, so limit our flexibility to move them about. Tomlinson will be good for us.

  3. What's pathetic is your obsession with turning every little thing into an excuse to stick the boots into Melbourne.

  4. The next step to Hawthorn...? Weren’t we trading him? Rubbish aside, I really hope he does take the next step. If he trims down and builds his tank he could be anything.

  5. He'll be 31, not chasing, not tackling, not crashing packs, bobbing up on twitter and SEN whilst playing for Casey. I don't care if he cost 500k or 5k I don't see the appeal. Take the chance with an athletic junior or state league player and save the cash for a shot at Ben King if Weid or Petty don't work out.

  6. Great young player destroyed by injury. His career died slowly and many forget (or choose to forget) how good he was in his first two years. One of my favourites.

  8. I don't watch enough gws games to have an informed opinion about Tomlinson. I'll back in our recruiting team to make the right call. But some of the comparisons and ratings on this thread are laughable. He has played almost every game for the giants for the last four years. In that time they have played finals every year, made 3 prelims and now a GF. And he has played all of them. Wh aa t does that say about his ability? Or maybe people think he us a coaches favorite or has photos

  9. No, he's only 11. Long way to go yet, he's only just had his first taste of the Freo NGA this year, a 4 session clinic run over 4 weeks by Tendai Mzungu. There were a heap of kids there including those with a parent born in the UK, not sure how multicultural it is really. My son is going to have to develop into one of these gun small forwards we're crying out for on Demonland, because I'm 177 cm and his mum is about 150 cm!

  12. ...and that's why they got rid of the zones in the first place. It's such a retrograde and stupid move that only someone like Gill would oversee it.

  15. Nobody accepts mediocrity, not sure which bit you both don't get, me personally I was appalled by what was dished up in some games, but I still support the club What I don't accept is you two taking the opportunity in every thread to whinge and whine, it's BORING Go and do something else if it [censored] you that much Jack Trengove was cruelled by injury and the game changed whilst he was out At least he played AFL, top guy, very.knowledgeable on footy, hope he is not lost to the game

  16. Baker has potential. ANB has had some good games in 2018 but this year pathetic. Worth the depth - two years generous. Joel Smith big tick for mine, just needs a good run at it without injury. Wagner boys provide depth and nothing questionable regards their effort. Chandler lucky to be kept on. Lockhart a full pre season will surprise. Same as Lockhart, a full pre season will do wonders for Dunkley. We can’t just clean out this level of players and regurgitate with the next batch of NQR’s every season and more than anything this comes across as underwhelming because of the fact they’re a bulk fringe player re-signing media release! Why didn’t they just announce them as the happened throughout the year? Must be some method to the madness.

  17. Who? Please name the 16 players we're going to recruit who would be better than the 8 we're likely to lose and the 8 we just re-signed. Those 16 players also need to be ones that would be available at the picks we have, with trades we can do with picks (seeing we can't lose more players) or free agents. 16. Go. Rubbish comment mate. Come on. You have no idea what they're earning. Once again, no team has 40+ "best 22" players. You're just showing you don't understand the complexities of a list. Just FYI for you... Losing: Lewis Garlett Maynard Keilty Smith Walker Probably losing: Stretch JKH Possibly losing (differing chances): Frost KK A contracted player who requests a trade So potentially we already have about 7-8 senior spots to fill already. Replacing: Tomlinson Langdon Pick 3 Pick 39ish Pick 57ish Pick 75ish That's all we have atm. Already we have quite possibly more list spots than options to fill them, and you want to delist another 8 players. How exactly are you replacing them? I get that it's the internet and people like to make brash statements, but so many are showing how little they're bothering to look at this situation as a big picture.

  19. Credit to Jack, this is what perseverance looks like. After all the mishaps with his injuries he stayed on our list for as long as possible and managed to make a second AFL list for a couple of years. He put up some incredible numbers in the SANFL this season and was probably unlucky not to play a few more games for Port. If he continues playing footy somewhere he would be a great benefit to that club and all the best Jack.

  22. that's a big call Jumbo.....hard to predict that in my opinion at this early stage but I hope he's half as good as his brother. I'm more excited about Lockhart. Has showed a little bit of X factor & some goal sense. Hopefully they all improve & have an impact in 2020. Time will tell.....

  24. Josh is so vanilla & lacks pace. Hard 2 understand y they've given him another year. He doesn't make good decisions, but maybe they just like him because he's a good guy. Melbourne have always shied away from recruited talented bad boy types whereas other clubs embrace them.

  25. I have heard this is 100% correct. We needed cap space to land Elliot and I dare say if he has stayed at the Pies, then we can afford to keep Frost.

  26. Rules are if one of your parents was born overseas then you're eligible for a NGA spot. My son who has an Anglo name is eligible for the Fremantle NGA because mum was born in Colombia.

  27. Fact- Jack's career was affected and terminally damaged by injury. Speculation-Jack's development and career was mismanaged by the MFC. We have many examples of sportsmen and women whose career has been cut short by serious foot injuries. With Jack the impact was seen through missed games and diminished speed. Pure speculation that his journey would have been different if he had been drafted by another club at the beginning of his career. What we do know is that he was an outstanding junior, showed enormous potential in his first season (more than Scully) and that he was an outstanding young man. He has carried himself with dignity and humility over the years.

  28. There's an excellent article from Chip Le Grand in today's Age which explains why expansion into western Sydney has been so important to the AFL, and, by extension, the poorer clubs such as ours. A second team in Queensland won't provide the same benefits (even if it were ever to be successful) but the principle is the same. In short, the AFL would eventually wither away if it didn't pursue a north-of-the-Murray strategy. The consistent failure of the MFC to be successful is unrelated to national expansion. We were dreadful from 1965 to 1986 when it was still a 12 team competition and all because of poor back-of-house administration. If we want to succeed, we have to stop blaming the AFL Commission, Gillon McLachlan, the umpires, the media, the poker machines and betting companies, and recognise that success comes from within.

  29. New draftees won’t help. I disagree. If we hold pick 2 - Rowell or Anderson are ready to go in 2020. Straight into our best 22. If Gcs get priority and we hold pick 3 - Lachlan Ash is ready to go on a wing or half back. I agree in getting Langdon and some free agents, but don’t discount draftee making an impact.

  31. Will never forget how hard he was in his younger days (before his foot injury). This epitomised his toughness: Unsurprisingly being a Melbourne player and first time offender, he got 3 weeks for that. Also thanks in part to Dangerfield's acting and testimony (mind you, Dangerfield played the following week and kicked 6 goals).

  32. @Rusty Nails - give us a list of whom should be traded in. Then let me know if those players would want to leave their respective clubs and or want to come to the Dees mate? Resting on Laurels? I feel that comment is unfair. At the midway mark of the season, they delisted a range of coaches, and fitness staff. With respect to your 'past tense' "this trade period was" - it's still active mate...and you and I both have no idea what is happening with conversations... Methinks your pessimism is getting in the way of being objective this particular morning.

  33. I think an ‘NQR hopeful’ is a bit harsh BB. He’s played 24 games this season for GWS and is a good chance to play on the weekend in a Granny. Perhaps the argument will be that GWS can afford to carry him whereas we can’t, regardless I still think at AFL level you wouldn’t play 24 games in a season if you were NQR.

  34. I'm more concerned with who we pick up and the system we look to play next year. We undoubtedly need pace and pressure all over the ground, particularly forward of centre, but our team has shown it can get to a PF. Tweak the system, get everyone on the same page, add some speed, get everyone through pre season and we can make the 8 next year. The change to system and coaching is what's going to turn our fortune, not the re-signing of a couple of youngsters who have barely had a chance to show their wares yet. (yes, I know about ANB and the Wagners, but get the system right and they will be plug and play contributors)

  38. Richmond's team: 2 ruckmen - Nank and Soldo 2 key forwards - Lynch and Riewoldt 3 lock down defenders - Grimes, Astbury, Broad 1 intercept defender - Vlastuin 3 rebounding defenders - Houli, Short, Baker 2 wings - Caddy, Ellis 3 inside mids: Prestia, Cotchin, Graham (Ross) 3 forward/mids: Edwards, Lambert, Martin 1 pacey defensive forward - Castagna 2 small forwards - Rioli, Bolton Is one part of the puzzle bigger than the other? Our shopping list should be: - Outside run - Midfield pace - Half back skill - Tall depth - Small pressure forwards - Extra goal kicking option It's highly unlikely we get all of those fully fixed in one off season, most premiership teams aren't perfect yet alone teams rebounding from 17th. But starting from the midfield deficiencies with trades and then using draft picks to fill the other needs probably isn't a bad idea. Remember Richmond kicked off their bounce back with Nankervis, Caddy and Prestia traded in.

  39. That window has been deadlocked shut for 55 years, and I truly hope none of the players or staff think the 'window is ajar' as there's no chance they break the longest drought in football without a massive shift in attitude throughout the club.

  40. But look at the list they were gifted. They were created to be successful quickly, not like the rest of us who developed slowly. They were given so many top players, that as they traded the surplus, they got more high picks to pick the best again in the next seasons. They were always going to succeed.

  41. Yep, could you imagine Elliot's manager in a meeting with Goodwin? "Yeah, so you said that you were interested in him, as well as many others in your radio interview. Due to the rumours going around about Hawthorn, and your comment on SEN, I'm going have to up his asking price by a few hundred thousand. Sorry, it wouldn't have been this way if you hadn't mentioned the interest on radio."

  42. Pleasure. When Frost sprints out of the backline with the ball under his arm, his team mates move into attacking positions up the ground. He then proceeds to turn the ball over by foot and the ball shoots back over his head, and out-positions his team mates. In an effective team defence, you can't have a turnover merchant like Frost in your back 6. He's a hard trier and I like him, but if we're being serious, he completely undermines our defensive strategy.

  43. The Tigers after 2016 were criticised for not making a heap of list changes, they got in Nank, Prestia and Caddy, but at that stage they weren't seen as a massive boost (Prestia had the biggest wraps but little to no other suitors). Of course 2017 rolls around, they have a blessed run with injuries and because the group had been together they took it out. Not saying I'm convinced but glad the club doesn't overreact like all on here. Bringing in Langdon, Tomlinson and maybe Elliot or someone else might be all we need.

  44. And if Goody had been lukewarm Elliott might have said "they aren't really interested". You're just looking for reasons to criticize. I don't think Bin is naive.
