  1. This 'incident' has spawned so much sanctimonious claptrap here and beyond! May made a mistake, poor choice, let his guard down. I'm not going to execute him, or even ridicule him. The club will take appropriate action... no need for me to moralise or cast stones. I reckon May will play some good footy for us when the time comes. When he does, the current 'incident' will not seem like a hanging offence!

  2. I don’t think I’m allowed to say because I haven’t seen any mention of it, but May had a pretty good reason to have a couple of beers (a bad thing happened to him personally) I think everyone just needs to lay off the poor bloke

  3. Beer is full of dextrose, which is a simple sugary carb which can help with recovery post-intense exercise, it also contains electrolytes and plant based nutrients. Clearly he just had an intense workout and was having a recovery session. He should be praised for his dedication.

  5. People have different ways of dealing with things. A couple of beers with some close mates at a pub whilst having a chat is what works for some people. Better than him dealing with it alone and bottling up any emotions he may be feeling.

  6. Yep hes been battling through a relationship break down. It has been very hard on him and no excuse but contributing factor to a few things. Roosy, the club and most journos out there know this. The club has and is putting they're arms around him. The meeting tomorrow is a non issue Gutter Journalism to a good bloke having a rough time.

  7. I don't really have an issue with Tom Morris per se. Just doing the job he is paid to do. What I dislike is that really he is little more than a gossip columist. He's not a writer. Yet he is paid to write. He is a journalist, but only the sense that he is in the media. Like Sam McClure and that other gossip monger Tom Browne. All so called 'news breakers. So funny. No analysis, no intelligence, no balance, no nuance and barely any more real research than trawling social media and fan sites such as this one. And so often reliant on club sources that quite frankly I don't believe exist most of the time. Look at Morris' article posted a few minutes ago about Shaun Smith's comments about his son. A classic of the genre. Gossip pure and simple. Is it 'news worthy. Not in my book. It is 'click bait worthy', which like it or not is the now the key metric in media. Good journalism is terminal. But I don't blame the Toms or the Same of this world, pretty little gold fish swimming as they do in the little AFL fish bowl, they are simply meeting a demand. Meeting the need for ever more content for all the TV shows, online sites, radio etc etc. Click. Click. Click

  8. Absolutely pathetic by May, the club is sponsored by Johnnie Walker so why the hell is he drinking beer?

  9. We'll definitely be able to announce 50k at our next home game. That'll be a proud moment as one of many supporters who had stuck fat all these years. What a terrific effort given where we've been.

  10. He is taking Hogan’s position on our list a little bit too literally !

  11. Well, one can only draw the conclusion that the head is sacrosanct. ANY contact with the head will get you weeks. The AFL have made it clear they are determined to rub this out of the game. They are uncompromising on this. No excuses, no exceptions.

  13. May was running laps and doing ball work and skills last Wednesday and Friday May did not turn up for pre season in disgraceful shape, he turned up in Gold Coast condition, he was put right and then worked his [censored] off to get right, unfortunately his body didn't like it He made a stupid decision, unlike some on here who never have in their life, he has learnt the hard way, him and the club will move on Blanket rule don't drink and don't get caught, same as having a sly smoke on your way to training, you learn and move on

  14. BREAKING NEWS Aussie bloke has a couple of beers over a few hours at the pub before leaving at 6pm; the perpetually offended are outraged (and offended).

  15. Morris writing this really annoys me: "When contacted, Melbourne could not rule out either a player-led or club enforced punishment for the former Gold Coast captain". More likely: TM: Will May be sanctioned? MFC: No comment Suddenly he has an angle about possible club sanctions! And, if as noted in an earlier post, people in the media know that May is going thru a torrid personal time and not acknowledging that in the article is really low. He has dredged up all his recent past with us, made a big story out of it without regard for May's welfare. And, I wish someone would wipe the smug look he had on OTC while reporting this off his face. All in all, he gives 'gutter journalism' a new low.

  16. Few pints on a Sunday afternoon? Stand to be corrected but this has got over-the-top outrage written all over it.

  17. Shaun Smith has had a long battle with his concussion based injuries suffered during his 20 years in the AFL/VFL system. He has been long campaigning for changes and has donated brain tissue to science for research in the area. From what i understand he didnt really want his son playing AFL in the first place, but of course left the decision to him. He would be one of the first to question any perceived lack of proper management in any case of an injury to his son, and so you can see where he is coming from. Its not at all surprising to hear from him in this case. We wish Shaun all the best in his efforts to recover.

  19. What I heard is that May was not under an alcohol ban (in a general sense) So those who are playing are allowed to drink and those in rehab are not allowed to drink. And how much alcohol is ok? They have possibly got it A-about as I fail to see how a couple of beers could impact on a 3 month rehab injury. It is just quite ridiculous. Nanny state stuff. The players who do drink are going to have a drink anyway (in private) ... impossible to police so why bother? If people reckon that even 80% of the players are going to conform they are dreaming and need to take a giant leap into the real world.

  20. echoing what every supporter has said; worse thing it's coming from a former player and father of a current one himself! we really do manage to shoot ourselves in the foot as a club at the earliest opportunity

  21. Get on the bike MFC! This has been a problem for years. Pert needs to find the best in the business to fix and get our list fit! AND stay fit!

  22. What I found really annoying about Morris On The Couch last night, apart from his huge noggin (like an orange on a toothpick), was his use of the word ample. 'He didn't have one or two beers, he had ample' something like that anyway. It doesn't say anything...ample for Tom might be a pot of shandy.

  23. We've had our moments on here, but I know you're not stupid. Who Morris supports should have nothing (and I mean literally zero) to do with his work content or reporting of ''news''. If Morris was prepared to compromise his journalistic content based upon who he grew up supporting he should look for a new career. I'm staggered people think otherwise. Actually, no, I'm not.

  24. I believe the club is also looking into whether he stopped for a souva on the way home.

  25. Thrilled. The last player who didn’t make footy his priority at our club has a 10,000 page thread about him. This won’t end well.

  26. Surprise surprise. gablett gets off. It was a blatant attack on the player, he left the ground, made contact with both arms to the head. the system is wretched and officially broken. One rule for the favourites, one rule for us.

  27. I pulled beers at nightclubs in the late 80s early 90s to put myself through uni. The things I saw AFL footballers consume the night before game day make May's few pints look like holy communion. In one instance, I saw a star forward write himself off, only to kick 4 goals about 12 hours later to win the game almost off his own boot. Lucky for him there was no peeing in a sample jar back then. The game is more professional now, higher expectations on conditioning and rehab, blah, blah. But I highly doubt this would've got traction had there not been a photo. All about optics. Only the club (and Saty) really know what issues May has and how his rehab is tracking. Dealt with, move on.

  28. Apparently May wasn't under an alcohol ban and he wasn't intoxicated. So it wasn't even a story but not a good look according to the politically correct or nanny state revellers (outraged types) Your quintessential storm in a teacup. The players conform to our standards not the standards we want them to conform to.

  29. One of the great outcomes of Rnd 7 was getting under Clarko's skin. That's two in a row. It was their best against ours and they hadn't had anywhere near the number of injuries and off field issues we've had so far. 30. The oldies more so in my opinion (with regards to the booze) ... and the criticism of the young and their supposed drinking habits often comes from the hypocritical oldies. Ageism And you would reckon the oldies would know better after all their life experiences.

  31. They are reporting off field issues, Drunkn. A few beers and home before sunset. In real life this will have minimal impact on his rehab or his training. I hope he is OK, and can get whatever is happening to him sorted. He is an easy target because he is a big name, on big bucks. People suggesting the trade was a bust are going prematurely. Still way too much water to go under the bridge to make such an assessment. He was recruited to do a job. When he is back on the park, we can judge him around that. Nothing to see here. Move along to the next outrage. Perhaps Ablett getting off because giving him a ban is a bad look for the game?

  33. I'd say that it's more so Max isn't up to date with the latest. Lever would be in the rehab group with May, and Misso would obviously be well aware of his current state. Max even kept on saying he got injured in JLT2 not rnd 2 so obviously not obviously not aware of all the history. The tweet above from channel 9 also said he was running laps.

  35. His head is disproportionately much larger than his body for starters. More seriously, people feel aggrieved that he’s a supposed Melbourne fan but when you muck rake at every opportunity about the club you are meant to ‘support’ it get a little tiring. It was only a few weeks ago he stirred up the old McCartney is disliked chestnut. If you were a true Melbourne supporter, your journalistic licence shouldn’t be a green light to cause media shitstorms like this muppet does.

  37. Even if the pic was sent to Morris by a non-mfc person, he still has a person inside mfc who has told him about the apology meeting in advance and even before many/most players knew what the meeting was about. Whoever it is inside mfc that continues to feed this creep info so he can smear our name from pillar to post, needs to be brought in and read the riot act. We don't need people inside our club contributing to sensationalist reporting.

  39. People are actually outraged that he had a couple of sunday pints? You should be deported. Next headline: "Steve May to front the playing group over an incident over the weekend in which in engaged in sexual intercourse outside of the missionary position. Reports also seem to suggest he went two weeks without calling his mum. More to follow."

  42. Having a few pints on a Sunday afternoon (reportedly between 2 and 6) seems a non issue to me, but if he feels the need to apologise to the playing group then he’s obviously not met an internal expectation. That’s the issue, not the drinking itself. As we sit here right now, he’s a bust. He needs to work upwards from there.
