  1. Interesting game except the last quarter. Casey seemed to have more skills than the seniors but then again North were shizen. I thaught that Petty played a solid game in defence. Mopped nearly everything up and disposed well of the pill. Kielty was also very good especially around the ground. Was a good marking option. Garlett was very good. even tackled well and gave off a few goals. Put his hand up for selection. Baker didn't do that much but had a golden run in the 2nd quarter, Kicked a couple of goals. Maynard was in it all day in the middle. Good clearance mongrel that one. ANB was ANB. Got a little better as the game went on . Did not see Chandler set the world on fire. Quieter than last week. Casey players Munro and Gent were great players as well. An extra slab should go to the match scorers for their sublime stuff ups at the end of the 3 quarter.

  5. I think the three big benefits we get from playing Preuss are: Better structure - he isn't going to roam up the ground like TMac or Weideman are so we keep him deep. That's good for keeping defenders deep (e.g. Aliir) but also good for our attacks as we don't have all our forwards being sucked up the ground Gawn benefits - I'm sure it's a good thing for Gawn that Preuss can take some of the load off him, but it also allows Gawn to sit outside the forward 50 when we're attacking, which makes our forward press a little stronger Physicality - TMac and Weideman aren't particularly imposing forwards, but having Preuss down there gives us a different physical look. It's a very small sample size so far, but I was encouraged by what I saw and I'd like to see more of it.

  8. I might be in the minority but I find Bruce Mcaveney extremely annoying to listen to when watching the game. He seems to have no grasp of what is happening, fawns over well known players whether they are playing well or not and then distracts from what is actually taking place. Keen to hear others views re Bruce.

  13. Jetta was injured, hence the form. Surely it’s beyond question that a non-injured Jetta plays seniors. I can’t see any sensible scenario where Jetta plays at Casey.

  14. I don't want him in the team to kick goals... I want him in the team to 'Bust his Backside' for the team... up the field and down the goals, to win possessions, present defensive pressure, setup our players... and to SHARE in the goals with his work-mates. An unselfish Jeffy, is what the team needs. .

  15. Bradtke has played no football for about four years after making a decision at 14 years of age to concentrate on basketball. Apart from a couple of practice matches with Casey, he has played only two games of AFL any level for premiership points and they were over the last fortnight with the Stingrays. He’s learning the craft in an area where players don’t reach their peak until the mid 20s. The strategy of playing him in the NAB Bank Under 18s is sound but don’t expect him to be smashing them quite yet.

  16. I can't stand the Seven commentary team. BT talks about things that aren't there - a team about to surge, an umpire decision that he feels is right/wrong which the reviews clearly show otherwise. And then there is his horrible abuse of the english language. Should of instead of should have Verse instead of versus .... anyway. I turned the sound off but it loses the crowd noise so I turned the game off. It was only dogs pies anyway

  18. No it didn't. A classic a case of confirmation bias at work That incident occurred half way though the second. Oscar was concussed late in the 3rd quarter (4.36 to go) in a huge spoil that repelled a Sydney inside 50. In the intervening period betwen the buddy incident and when he got concussed we played our best footy of the match, kicking of 8 of 10 goals. And in that period Oscar worked super hard and his gut running was big factor in creating that web zone Sydney struggled so badly to penetrate. Omac has not had a great start to the season but was ok on Friday. Not great, ok. His opponent for much of the game had one mark inside 50 for the game and a solitary point. And had the equal high number of one per-centers with Hore (who played one more quarter than Omac). He did his job.

His constant craving for affirmation makes my brain bleed. isn't it didn't he don't they wouldn't he And to think he is often asking Brian Taylor (that vacuous [censored] that Danny Hughes used to wind up) for affirmation! 24. I see Chris Scott was super quick to defend his precious pet Danger, despite not having enough information to form an opinion on the incident which may come under scrutiny. Because there was no free kick, there was no problem, was his view. The arrogance of this man is astounding.

  26. I'm very glad to hear that. I'd know what's happened to him the last couple of seasons. The way many of our own supporters have turned on him quite frankly disgusts me. Jeffy has produced several 40 odd goal seasons when we were a way below par team. I'd love to see what he can do for us when both he and the team are really on.

  28. I hated GWS when they first came in as an artificial entity. But now with Scully gone I just look at them as a team which I can barrack for when they play Geelong, Essendon and C'wood (and anyone else if it suits MFC position on ladder etc.) . I'd rather seem GWS win a flag than any of the above teams (and probably some others like Hawthorn).

  38. Why I always enjoy ABC radio’a commentary- they let the game speak for itself and if it’s a bad game, they say it’s a bad game. The commercial stations will outright lie in their commentary to keep you from turning off.

  40. Who was the poster who said Frost was poor? Thought he did a great job on Buddy and used his pace to advantage at times. Only stuffed up twice, but I’m pretty sure most of the other players stuffed up at least twice. I’m not a big fan but as was proven late last year, if you give him some continuity of games, he can be quite serviceable.

  41. my general vibe is that most on the board think we should have been playing him, but unfortunately copping an injury in the vfl praccy game that coincided with jlt2 and then average form as a ruckman in the vfl saw him have to wait to debut i never quite understood why he didn't play alongside gawn in jlt2, given that the aim has always been, presumably, to play gawn in the ruck with preuss as a relief ruck who is a massive unit as a forward target i stick by the roos' maxim that you recruit blokes to play them in the 1s, not the 2s very happy to see him make an impact and fingers crossed the shoulder is all good

  42. Meanwhile, by all reports, Austin Bradtke is motoring along satisfactorily, playing in the ruck for the Dandenong Stingrays. Nothing spectacular but he's getting hitouts and possessions and last week kicked a goal in the team's drawn game against the Geelong Falcons.

  44. I’d say get rid of him and replace him with someone fresh, but I’m afraid “someone fresh” would be another moronic oaf, fresh out of the boys club, with no experience or even a basic grasp of the English language. That seems to be the hiring criteria for both the major broadcasters. I reckon our sport has a big problem with the quality of its commentators.

  45. Bruce has become a bit of a caricature of himself over a number of years now. My special lady friend and I were discussing last night how great it would be if Fox Footy could implement a button where all you get to hear are the effects mics (umps, whistles, crowd noise, players swearing etc). That commentary team last night were desperate for Sydney to get up... PS. Lingy can [censored] right off!

  47. It's funny how a win completely changes people's perspective on here. If we had lost in a closer battle (which it could have been if Swans had taken earlier chances) some players on here getting praise would be under the blow torch. Oscar has to go in my opinion. I've been giving him the benefit of the doubt for a while as I have always thought people (particularly on the facebook groups) rate him lower than he actually is, but he has been downright awful this year. He is far too slow and has no physical presence. The commentators were creaming themselves when Heeney took that mark on a "2 on 1". Let's not kid ourselves, that was 1.2 on 1 with me being generous. Oscar's heels barely left the turf. Jones was lucky he nailed those 3 goals because if we had lost and those were behinds, the pitchforks would be well and truly out again. He continuously butchers the pill from dangerous positions. I'm not saying Jones needs to be dropped, but if he really is going to lead from the front, he should start by not hoofing it 50m into a packed forward line every time he gets the ball. Fumbles....What the hell is with the fumbles? Numerous times we looked to be clean out of the middle or defence only for one of our mids (Harmes and Trac probably the biggest offenders) to fumble it and turn it over. I am putting this down to confidence issues as it was much more evident when we were getting towelled up in the first half. I thought Trac was pretty good tonight, but you still feel like he is stuck in 2nd gear. Just needs to find a way to get more involved. I firmly believe he can be our De Goey and possibly even better. Not sure if its a work rate issue or just learning the game. Would love to see him lead for the ball better. He actually looked really good one out in forward line last week. The forward line suits Hunt, but he still needs to learn how to side-step. If he can somehow add some evasiveness to his game he could have kicked 4 or 5 last night. I know this sounds like I'm having a major dig at a good performance and win, but I still fear against some more efficient teams this game would have been all over by half time like it was against the cats. It was however nice to see us improve our efficiency inside 50. Something that had me baffled though was how we played in the last quarter when we were protecting our lead. Inside of winning it out of the middle or defensive 50 and rushing it to the other end only to bomb it, we slowed it down and picked out players and leads. We looked composed and polished. When the ball rebounded, we won it back and didn't panic. Why can't we balance this style of play with our manic pressure? It just seems our gameplan is far too favoured towards playing the territory game at the sacrifice of possession. We have demonstrated so many times that winning i50s does not equal more scoring and in more cases causes more scores against. Our mids gets far too committed to pushing into the attack and when it goes over there heads, it leaves our backs exposed with forwards getting goal side. In my opinion, this has to change if we are to make any challenge this season. I honestly don't believe the addition of May or Lever would make a difference. Most defenders don't do well running towards their defensive goal. We really need to [censored] the saints next week and make a statement.
