  2. Past the half way mark. Can almost count the number of weekends till our season kicks off on one hand. Setup the below page to help us keep track of the remaining time: https://www.timeanddate.com/countdown/to?iso=20190323T1345&p0=152&msg=MFC+Rd+2019&ud=1&font=slab&csz=1

  3. Many aspects of human sexuality are very puzzling. Take celibacy. This can be a choice in life or a condition imposed by environmental factors. While attending a Marriage Encounter Weekend, Tom and Mary listen to the instructor declare, "It is essential that husbands and wives know the things that are important to each other." He addresses the men: “Can you each name and describe your wife’s favourite flower?” Tom leans over, touches Mary’s arm gently and whispers, “Self-raising, isn’t it?” Thus begins Tom’s life of celibacy.

  4. I just subscribed, and I asked Admin how many Demonlanders there were and how many were subscribers. I was surprised by the response: "There are over 5,000 registered members of Demonland. About 280 are subscribers. These numbers don't take into account guests who visit the site but have never signed up. More guests are reading the site at any one time than members reading the site." It would be nice for the percentage of subscribers to increase to support the running of this site. I mean we all enjoy it, but only about 5% are financially supporting it. With a lifetime membership of only $60, that, for some of the younger ones on here will work out to be about $1 a year. Where else can you get such great entertainment for just $1 a year?

  5. You guys are acting like 5 year old girls! How about just shutting up for a while and allowing the Demonlanders providing valuable information the chance to have a say. I'm only a newcomer to this great site and I can tell you that there are definitely two halves to the communication that goes on here........the fantastic training reports and insights into who is doing what on the training track.....then there is you guys - the purile few that seem to be doing everything you can to torpedo this site with your immature and self serving barbs and retorts. Just give it a rest! We all love this footy club.....how about concentrating on that!

  6. Truly underrated - he was a brilliant player who was always into the hot zone, clearing and teaming, terrific kicking skills, agile, tough and fast. In later times, in purple patches of a few games, young Dean Kent made me blink twice - he had Hassa's attributes at times, and Kenty looked very similar to Hassa on the ground when moving towards the ball - he even kicked a little like Hassa but not as prolific or effective. Kenty kicked a big one last season, a very important goal at the end of the game. Hassa did this many times across particular games in the days of 'individual efforts'.

  8. Ok, here are my standout performers from yesterday ... Warwick Farm (keep in mind the track was rated as a Heavy8) Fiesta & Estijaab - streets ahead of the rest in a race run in a very very good time. Champagne Cuddles very impressive - it's a good horse. Caulfield (track a Good4 but the track did cut up so more like a slow5 towards the end of the day) 'Crack the Code' is worth following especially over the 1200m against her own gender. 'Nature Strip' is an absolute star - only query is the 1200m too far? 'I am Immortal' looks the goods - a real fighter and the Blue Diamond is well and truly in its sights. Both 2yo fillies 'Lyre' & 'Vinicunca' have emerged as genuine chances for the Diamond. 'Hawkshot' is another emerging type and the Australian Guineas is his for the taking. The Orr Stakes didn't tell us a lot - the race was not a truly run affair. 'Avilius' is a class performer - a blackbooker without question.

  9. Last time I saw him train, he was running laps at a decent clip, he is a valuable player, so assume because he has had a couple of hamstring issues, they have done a complete check, ie back related etc, to ensure no repeat during the season Last time I spoke to him he was confident it was just a blip, but they always are, next week or so should be a true picture

  10. We've got any number of excellent sprinter/milers running around so I reckon Kementari is one of a whole bunch of those types that can get into the finish in those types of races on any given day. In real terms, it's a bit of a lottery. Winx is the exception of course and I reckon she would mostly dominate even at 1200m ... but those sprints often throw up skewed results so she'd lose occasionally because of barrier draw or track conditions. And for the mere mortals, that's always a factor, in any race. So don't feel bad @Wadda We Sing ... to me the best bets are only a guide. For instance, I used our 3 tips in 3 different types of exotic bets because I'm really only looking to get the picks 'Into the finish' (being an exotic punter) ... had a multi with the 3 picks but my stake was a negligible amount. So no loss. In the recent past I've won with my tips running 2nd or 3rd because I'm an exotic punter. Tom Melbourne has helped me win a few decent trifectas so I have nothing against good old Tom either. And the positive for all of us is that the horse that beat 'Social Spin' in 'Hawkshot' is an emerging 3yo star. I'm one to always give credit to the winner even if it beats my horse. We lay our stake and if we lose that's on us ... all factors need to be taken into account including a horse not getting a run. That's racing. Social Spin did it's best but the winner looks like it is just a superior horse (so far) I picked up a small percentage of the F4 in the race and would have still got it if Social Spin had have got into the F4. That's the main reason I rely on JJ & Gator to find me some winners (and both of them are very good) ... I'm reasonably good at the exotics because it involves multiple choices. Straight out punting is not for me. Nor are quaddies. With Avilius, James Cummings wanted to 'declare it' and he may as well have to my ears. Class prevailed - emphatically. That will be my pattern with the best bet - primarily. Footnote: Gator tipped Dealmaker in the Social Spin race but I reckon he might mark 'Hawkshot' on top in the Australian Guineas (March 2nd ... 3 weeks time) And if he does, I'm getting on. Positive reinforcement. Tipsters have patterns. JJ went off 'Domination' yesterday because the horse has let him down a couple of times previously - it won and you could tell he was filthy! That's racing. Still, he picked 5 other winners.

  11. I’m happy to continue with BBs, not sure how many blackbookers I can find unless I find time to watch a heap of replays. Was tuning on and off yesterday. Saturdays will be hectic from now on, I was all at sea yesterday with the wife looking for some day release. Happy to keep reading any info provided by members on here.

  12. Nichols was a beast - levelled by Laurie Fowler in his Richmond days prior to joining the Dees whilst being held in position for Laurie's follow through by big Neil Balme. Some say that it was justice for what Nichols could do quite regularly to the whole of the rest of the competition. As a ruck, Big Nick was more than handy for Carlscum and he took no prisoners in that effort.

  13. I encourage everyone to click on it as many times as possible. They can pollute our screens for free, but as soon as anyone clicks on it they pay money. I’m sure we can ensure they make a loss in 2019

  14. Sure if you like. Doesnt have to be an official thing i guess, but sometimes you remember better next time. For instance look at Kementari. Hasnt won for a long time, so his odds will be ok, but that was a super run and there was a bit of a whisper around earlier in the week after a good trial. The jockey mentioned, " hes flying and ready to win and will only improve on that run. Get him back to Randwick as soon as possible." That just made me think, might be worth us wrapping up the day, if anyone feels like it, then we can go back and check what we wrote perhaps from a few weeks back. Yes theres hundreds of horses and we will never cover all of them, but a few notes here and there never go astray. Pretty much just like you wrote about Manuel. I never noticed the times and will therefore be extra weary when he runs next. The others however now look pretty good on that information. Your stats are top stuff Macca. Only if people are in the mood and feel like it of course......mostly i wanna forget about it as soon as the last race is over, like yesterday! Felt bad i let the team down with my pick. But even in hindsight, there wasnt much else i liked. Nature Strip was the obvious choice, but those odds are just prohibitive. Well done on everyones picks.

  15. I agree that it’s wrong on environmental grounds to encourage any Tiger fan who wanders here to buy a membership. When those plastic cards go into the microwave after we give them a whopping on Anzac Eve, then we will surely be responsible for releasing all of those smouldering plastic fumes into the atmosphere?

  16. Thanks for this epic photo, IHW; a true moment to remember. SSmith was a very loyal Dee, with some superb assets (as if he did not come from the Kangas to join the MFC). He was more recently quite adamant that Joel was to be a Demon player. Because of Shaun, I have immense faith and hope that Joel is going to be a 'beauty' for the Dees.

  18. 'Hawkshot' ran a second quicker in the Autumn Stakes in comparison to 'Manuel' in the Orr Stakes. That equates to about 5 lengths. So, even though it didn't look like Manuel slowed them up, in effect, that's what happened. The horse had a decent kick because it had been cruising up front. Smart tactics by Luke Currie and the connections of Manuel but you have to wonder about the tactics of the backmarkers in such a big race. Just an opinion but 01:24.47 is just too slow for a G1 over 1400m. Not enough early speed or speed on settling down sets things up for the frontrunners. They dawdled in the Caulfield Cup last year until the jockey on Best Solution went for broke at the 3 furlong pole.

  19. Today was the first time I have seen Austin Bradtke play in a match simulation. I though he acquitted himself quite well, didn't look lost, in one passage he made a lead to a forward flank and spun around to deliver the ball to Bayley Fritsch at the top of the goal square and that was of course in appalling conditions.

  20. Went for a quick look, torrential rain and cold hard to really get a gauge on what was going on. Viney, Oliver and Brayshaw all took part in match simulation. Gawn and Preuss had a decent battle but you can see Max is just a much better footballer. Harmes and Salem moved well and Weideman looks to have put on a bit of size.

  21. When signing on to to Dees, Joel was accompanied by his dad, Shaun Smith, who said to the media: 'Joel has a bigger leap than I ever had, better hands, too." With another year of experience now achieved, this could be his moment!

  22. Thanks Macca, brilliantly summed up. Not much i can add to that. Kieran Maher now has a lot of very good horses. (watch out when the blinkers go back on) Land of Plenty was a great run.

  26. I encourage everyone to sign up. I got horribly drunk a while back and attempted to buy a life membership, but the payment process glitched and it didn't go through. I couldn't change my mind when i sobered up as that would have made me feel, ..... dirty? Anyway, i feel slightly less bannable with "Life Member" next to my name. Most likely a false sense of security, but i am happy to run with it If you can afford it, i think it makes sense to add it to your support of MFC. Life membership is a long time for most people. *I expect Demonland to add an extra thousand or so likes to my total for this shameless plug

  27. Great fun attending Vic Park yesterday. I admit to struggling to engage with AFLW on TV and didn't really enjoy my only previous game, which was Round 1 last season on a baking hot day at Casey. (Casey doesn't seem to work for me, either). Yesterday's game was very entertaining and Melbourne could have / should have won by more. What impressed me: Melbourne's ruck and midfield was so much better than Collingwood's. Melbourne's 2 rucks, in particular, seemed to win every hit out. Statistically, the rucks only won 27 to 24 but none of their hit outs could have been to advantage. Melbourne's structure around the contested ball was superb. Time and time again, Melbourne players on the inside found good handball options. Also, Melbourne player's skills in keeping their arms free in the tackle to lay off was superb. Melbourne's tackling was ferocious, as were our spoiling skills. Areas to improve: Kicking and handball efficiency was rather frustrating. I'm always a bit cautious as I find it hard to judge how much pressure players are under, but the blokes just kick it much better. General awareness was poor at times when players took just a little too long to hand off. Overall, I was very satisfied by both Melbourne's professionalism and the entertainment level. Regarding the disposal efficiency, it may just show how much we take the men's team's accuracy and distance for granted. Go Dees!

  28. I do like it how the video finishes with a few leaps form Joel, a bit like a teaser for the sequel. With Joel set to be sent forward with more of a license to go for his marks this season, let's hope we see some more serious air time and that highlights reel gets longer and even more impressive as the years go on.

  31. Yep, only a fool would participate in the AFLX - unless there was no choice from the Club. There is a nice 'ring' to this idea - the Dees could well be the only team in the comp that does not participate for reasons of professional ethics.

  34. Other stuff off the top of my head: Lever and May ran laps, Jones was walking laps didn't do much at all and Hannan was in the gym not sure how much training he did. Vanders also looked strong at training which is good to see from him this time of year. I didn't see KK but he may have been there.

  36. Maybe @Supermercadocan help on this one? Have there been any comparable occasions when an MFC injury was so widely celebrated by Demons fans? I think Dawes may have pinged something once during the Roos' era and it wasn't exactly mourned.
