  1. I thought we were going to cut and paste They kicked They handballef They marked Etc Another really good session, lots of ball movement drills Crossy and at one point Macca, pounded the rehab group again Of the young draftees Sparrow and Chandler seem to be settling the quickest Corey Wagner looks like what he is, a player who has been on an AFL list before, neat and tidy skills, handling the training loads May got his feet tangled up in marking drill and crashed to the ground, think the Jatz got involved, spent a minute or two on his haunches KK is starting to stand out in the ball movement drills with his 2 way running At the end of the session Nietschke and Jordon got some one on one tutoring from Nev Jetta Preuss' skills for a big man are very good, have still not seen him miss a kick, no matter the conditions or distance Goodwin 'very vocal' today On the tech side as some have asked, there is a camera on a pole at one end of the field, they have a side on, they also utilise hand held and now have a drone, so coaches have no shortage of vision Will post some pics tonight

  3. I'm currently living in LA and I just want to say thank you to all of the brave souls making it down to training in the pre season to report back to us. You truly are performing a great service to those of us near and far.

  4. I wonder how relevant this stat is. Has anyone done analysis on whether those MCC members who don't tick the box actually hold seperate MFC memberships? I along with 3 other family members are all MCC members who do not tick the box. Reason being we all hold full separate MFC Adult Trident Memberships.

  6. This is one of the main reasons I want to see interchange rotations reduced. In the current game, Tom isn't going to have to outrun one defender. He will have multiple defenders each having some time on him. If interchange rotations reduce further, clubs will use the bench primarily for onballers leaving key defenders and forwards one-on-one for more of each game. It's something previously raised by Nick Reiwoldt and I think he has a very valid point.

  8. Dangerfield: The seasons too long, I’d like to see it reduced in length. AFL: We’ll pay you a small fortune to dress up as a superhero and play in a pre-season tournament. Dangerfield: Where do I sign?

  9. I agree with others views such as @binman and @Lucifer's Hero that a meeting place for members/fans/supporters is important. If we segway to the other thread about rebuilding the MFC as a great club again, then great club's are based around people and I think that bringing together all our people and building a sense of belonging is vital to that. I hear the sentiments of those like @Sir Why You Little that not all MCC members are the wealthy toff types and that stereotyping and segregating MFC supporters is not the way to go. Thus a truely universal social facility that brings together MFC & MFC/MCC members under the one roof would be a good outcome. I 've never been an MCC member myself, but for most of my life I've been a MFC member - presently an interstate one. When in my youth a real highlight of our home games going to the footy was attending the 'Demons Club' (I think that's what it use to be called) in one of the function rooms in bouls of the old Northern stand. I recall it having a bit of a mix of MFC and MCC supporters, they put on a good spread of nibbles and it was a great family atmosphere. In my view that's the kind of thing we need to rebuild as a cultural institution of the MFC and it would be good if that could encompass all of the Redleg Club (which I recall as being more of a MCC crowd, but could well be wrong), Demon Army, standard rank and file MFC members together in one spot. Perhaps that's actually the kind of thing which could provide the value to some of the MCC members to join as combined MFC members.

  10. No doubt it will get it's own thread, but this is great acknowledement of a dedicated loyal servant of the club and his comunity. Very glad the club has extended this honour to Nev.

  15. So you hate all the people in the MCC? or do you decipher somehow who have paid and who have not? i have paid a full MCC Membership and bought a FULL MFC Membership for 25 years and i always sit in the Members Reserve and enjoy a great view Be careful who you hate. We need to embrace EVERYONE. It’s been one of our core problems. The Members v The MCC Reserve. We need to become one....

  16. See everyone just assumes if you are an mcc member then you have it all. I work at at job where I only get $22 an hour, I don't live in a fancy suburb, drive a range rover, have a beach house or ski. So don't put us all into the doctor, lawyer toorak living area bracket I have been an MCC member for over 20 years. I didn't go on the list when I was a kid because im a melbourne supporter. I went on because of family and now I use it over summer for the cricket, including boxing day the big bash and international 20/20s. I wouldn't ditch it ever because I use it and get value out of it. I don't apologise for having an mcc membership. Me contributing $87 each year is better than those who don't re-sign or don't join up but still go. I also go to every melbourne game there and yes I usually to the grand finals. But I pay for an MFC/MCC membership every year. A couple of years ago it was $60 and you got a scarf and all the sticker and that. You also got free entry into an etihad home game. Now it has gone up to $87. I have signed up again because it adds to the membership total and it makes a donation to the club. I agree during the finals when the members was packed I saw many supporters with scarves on from 2015 and beyond. You can tell the ones who have jumped back on. Hopefully with the success last year more and more will sign up.

  18. Matty Whelan was another courageous player much like Nev that I admired on the feild, who also seems to work away quietly doing his thing behind the scenes at the club without alot of public reconition. I get a sense that he has now been a great influence on several generations of indigenous players at the MFC (and probably non indigionous as well). First with Flash in his playing days and now with Nev and others as well. It's fantastic when past players can return to the fold and make such positive contributions back into the club.

  19. Surely with all the coin that the AFL have been prepared to throw at the expansion clubs a bit of funding from them would be a reasonable thing. As for some of the others, like Melbourne City Council, the Victorian and National Governments and even the MCC to an extent and surely they need to reconise the cultural and heritage importance and significance of the MFC and that the club really needs a proper permanent facility around the location of it's historical birthplace and namesake to survive and prosper into the future. Some important negioation, politicing and promotion of the MFC cause to be done by Pert, Bartlett and Co to be done over the next few years I think. Melbourne members and supporters can and should be part of that push.

  20. Extract from club tweet re AGM Goodwin: "I couldn't be happier with how the players have returned from their break. "Their intent, physical condition + training standard has been fantastic." This is the first time ever that players have come back in good nick. Shows it is a really committed group.

  23. Not 100% sure that is true. The BBL is referenced a bit in relation to the aflx. In particular in that is focused on entertainment and a young audience. A young non discerning audience who, understandably, love color, slogs, fire, mascots, bright uniforms and electric bails. But truth be known the BBL is a feeble replica of the IPL. The standard is poor and few top 50 cricketers in the world are involved. Each team has multiple club level players who can't make state sides. And a couple of blokes retired from international cricket who are passed their use by date (hogg played until he was mid 40s iirc) Yet it grows every year. Because its target audience are kids and few of them are cricket purists. The AFLX could use young players (maybe the best under 21s not yet drafted), the best of the state leagues and a handful of recently retired afl players (make one the captain). Money and the incentive to show their wares might make games competitive and serve the purpose of introducing potential players to a wider audience.

  24. Agree with the first part. We were evicted from training at the G, something we did for over 100 years, before the other co tenants came along. I was Team Manager in 1979, under Coach Big Carl and it was an enormous thrill for everyone connected with the club, to be on the ground during training. I will never forget it. As for the second point, that won't happen, but if we get a deal up and running the AFL will chip in.

  26. I've heard from a knowledgeable Collingwood source the the pies were very keen to get Hore on board. They ran out of picks but they rate him highly. He could be the surprise pick up for us next year. Fingers crossed for the guy to get s chance in the firsts. It's up to him.

  27. Don't disagree with the concept but why not trial it at VFL and AFLW level. Similarly get the kids playing at school etc. Even bring a team or two from overseas if the scheduling allows. Then if and when the momentum and demand are there move it to the seniors level. It would also have the benefit of giving the VFL players exposure similar to the big bash. At the moment it just has too much of a gimmick factor to it and is heading for a flash in the pan type destiny. I could be wrong but it just seems to me they have the cart before the horse. PS: I particularly like the idea of playing on a rectangular field but why play it at Docklands where the crowd is then miles from the action. My first game at AAMI park during the Soccer Asian Cup blew my mind at how close you could be to the action.

  29. When i was kid we were so far away from a premiership that i measured success in how many state players we had. It was form of positive affirmation that despite spending most seasons closer to the spoon than a flag we were ok. I loved watching Robbie play for the Big V and loved how well he always played and the effort he put in. In those days, with few replays, let alone live telecasts, of the dees i reveled in the fact that the fans of other clubs could actually see for themselves how damn good he was. On replays i have fond(ish) memories of the fake/canned crowd noise used when one camera highlights were shown when a game that had not been telecast/replayed (which was all bar one or two) was being reviewed on WOS (and the Winners on the ABC?).

  30. If it's a choice between the MCC and the MFC then the answer is simple, I am not a member of the MCC and never wanted to be, I am a member of the MFC because I want to support my club. I could never see any point in joining the MCC, if I want to go to the cricket, I'll by a ticket, if I want to go to the finals I'm not going to line up out the front of the ground, I'll get one through the Final Guarantee I get with my membership. I see the stories where people are almost prepared to go without food to pay for their MCC membership, why? Is/was there some sort of prestige being a member of the MCC, I can't see it.

  34. The footy crowd is quite different in the members. There is chanting going on (could be better though) and the support for the Dee's is as strong as in any other part of the ground. I know the members reserve is only one qtr of the ground but for Melbourne matches it's the most packed part of the ground. The finals matches took the support to a new level.

  35. I agree entertainment ans sport are becoming blurred in some areas and yes Tackle Free Footy. I am glad you mention that. It’s not footy is it. By all means promote a hybrid sport, i am not against that, i am against using elite AFL Footballers to do it. That is my point of contention all along. The risks are too high for heavily invested Clubs, Sponsors and Members

  36. Only the Browns!
    1 point
  37. The Browns aren't all that far away from a playoff berth Gorg ... they finish off with vs Cinci & then at Baltimore and could win both the way they're playing. Steelers are at home to the Pats tomorrow then at Saints and then home to Cinci. Steelers hold the tie-break advantage over Cleveland so a wild-card berth is probably the best outcome for the Browns.
