After the first round I believe the discount becomes 197 draft points So pick 54 can match any pick up to 41 straight up. Adding in pick 61 allows up to match any pick up until 34. Sydney have 26, 33, 38, 39, 40 most of which will be swallowed up by 1 player. North have 42, 47, 48, 49 and 58 most of which will be used on 2 players. Collingwood have 41, 44, 57, 59 and 60 to use on 2 players. Pick 54 and 62 will likely end up as something like pick 48 and 53. When added to a discount that's enough to match pick 262 points

I'm clearly going mad. But so are they if they think Stevie J should be ahead of him.2 points

I’m definitely in the Williams camp as well but we don’t know what the recruiters are thinking. The player I also like is Bytel but his selection would depend very much on his medicals after an injury-affected year has seen him plummet from a top 10 prospect to a late second rounder.2 points

Only less physical sports have "play offs" as the player can recover. Football codes, like ours, rugby and grid iron you can't back up a GF intensity over the multiple weeks and have a good quality game to watch. Beside if you know your going to loose the first one, imagine the losing side going in preservation mode and benching their best players for the following week as a spectacle.2 points

Yes I like the team but hope we can weave in Preuss and Vanders into our best 22 as I would love us to be a physically intimidating team that can match it with the best sides in talent as well. A lot of premierships have been won by nasty sides who blend mongrel with talent.2 points

Roughly about one season 'Fifty'... Previous once in a generation players to name a few have been Lynch, Danniher, Hogan, Boyd, Moore etc.... The way once in a generation is going I'm pretty sure we can get it down to a week.2 points

The BS spouted in these reviews goes on: Lukosius: "The key forward is a ‘once in a generation’ prospect and is one of the best player we’ve seen in the Under 18 system for a long time." How long is a generation? Has this guy ever seen Buddy Franklin or Nick Riewoldt? i'm dubious about "super draft" prognostication, I've seen it all before.2 points

But Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and JR Richardson (The Big Boppa) we’re dead. And so was I when I think about it.1 point

If anyone tries to nominate Bedford in the 20s, they are joking. He is good but lots more development needed. Needs to get the footy more. 10 touches a game is not enough at TAC level to warrant.1 point

The expectant Daisy is being used as an assistant coach for the 1st year women. There's an article on the AFL site about it. Love that she's developing her coaching skills this way, has a very good football brain.1 point

I understand the arguments for it, particularly from the point of view if interstate sides, but it just feels wrong. It all builds to one single day at the MCG, it’s not a hidden fact it happens every year, you bring it that day (as West Coast did this year) or you don’t (Adelaide last year). Putting it over three weeks begs certain questions for me: - is it Home leg, Away leg, Neutral leg over the three matches? - if a team has already won by the second game is the third match called off? - not suggesting this happens but a tactic could be game one the away team decides to target critical players for game one to make them unavailable for the other 2 games? I would also argue that if the two teams playing were Victorian it immediately makes the whole thing pointless. I also feel it loses the title “Grand Final”.1 point

So we'd be listening to a song about Those three days in September/October? Sounds about right to me. Would we have three public holidays as well? Would they play the third even if it was a dead rubber? Would they give medals to every player who played in any of the three games? What would they do if a side sent their seconds over to Perth for match two to get an advantage in the third game back at home again?1 point

Not sure of the source, but this sounds like just another thread in the AFL’s strategy to give the AFL a media presence in what was traditionally the off season. Don’t get sucked in to their malicious media spin.1 point

Nope, nope, nope. Teams when entering the league knew full well that AFL Grand Finals are played at the MCG, shouldn't have entered if they don't like it. Beside it's a bloody Grand Final. No matter where or when, teams should be ready to play, it is for the ultimate prize, so there needs no extra motivation to play. Should interstate stadiums get to 100,000+ capacity, and the highest team qualified for the GF is from said state, then so be it, but until then, the biggest game needs to be played in the biggest stadium.1 point

AFL: "Let's nix the drawn grand final cos it causes too much trouble and it's hard for everyone to back up the big day. Also who cares about tradition!" Also the AFL: "Hey kids let's have a best of three grand final!!!"1 point

From memory, the Perth Stadium has been built in such a way that adding another 20,000 seats in the future won't be too hard and require any major demolition prior to upgrade. But the current deal with the MCG until 2057 means I'll either be dead or back in nappies by then anyway. Let's not forget the angst it causes bulk West Aussies either.... It's still the VFL!! The MCG grand final deal is nothing but a VFL relic One Granny only please.1 point

This is my big issue. I would be pissed if I couldn't get a ticket to an interstate Grand Final that we were involved in. Until they can get close to 80,000+ it's a no from me.1 point

Absolute cow tish ... what are the qualifying and preliminaries/semies for if not to lead to the final play-off. This would wreck our traditional, historical and practical finals series. Players at the end of the season whose teams make the GF are not to be expected to endure yet another 'round of finals pressure, both mentally and physically.1 point
-
I’m a definite no on the best of 3 grand finals, but my stance on the MCG only grannies has softened. If grounds interstate can be brought up to standard (high capacity, facilities, etc) then it should change in the future.1 point

For something a little different here's Equestrian legend Andrew Hoy on 'After the Last' shown earlier tonight. A fascinating character and a real high achiever - gives some great insights in the interview. Andrew Hoy - After the Last1 point

Back full circle to Sandown this week although the fields are not overly strong, all things considered. Still, there are some good betting races to be had (Races 5, 7, 8 & 9 have an even spread of chances) The 3 feature races at Ascot (WA) this Saturday holds some interest as well - building nicely to the 3 Group 1's coming up over the next month or so. Pounamu won't be seen though which is a shame - in the paddock at the owners property (somewhere in NSW) after having a minor setback. Trainer not happy. Material Man will be back however after bypassing the Spring over here. Full Card - Sandown Hillside Saturday 17th Full Card - Ascot (WA) Saturday 17th1 point

I'm a big fan of O'Halloran. It takes a lot to be a captain of a rep side and he did it well. Has speed and great kicking skills. He should be around the early 20's mark so here is hoping.1 point
