  1. Angus Brayshaw showed some really promising signs in his first year (2015). Due to injuries and concussion issues his next two years were disappointing. He lost his aggressive attack on the footy and just didn't look the same promising player. Demon Andrew, or whatever he's now called, potted him every second week. When he finally got some confidence and continuity in his game and was played in his best position (on-ball) he shone. You don't lose your natural talent. I'm looking forward to seeing what Kolodjashnij can do with confidence in his body. At 23 he's the perfect age to come to the club.

  2. You don't understand how Goodwin ticks if you even think he'd contemplate leaving for "big bucks" at the end of 2019.

  3. A waste of money. Could've just bought a carton of froffs, put his feet up and read Demonland for the incredible insights and knowledge he'd gather from here. Gain consensus from Picket Fence prior to any implementation planning of course.

  4. I hardly bet but I reckon putting $20 on Tmac's Coleman odds wouldn’t be silly.

  5. A couple of years back when he was in the process of signing up to take the reins from Roos, His good mate Mark Rucciuto tried to convince him to fill the vacant Adelaide coaching position. He didn't then, not a hope in hell he will now after spending so much time gaining the respect of the players, plus he and Viney seem to have a great connection (looking in from the outside)

  7. I remember watching him in his second season and being very impressed and am therefore pleased we've got him. But the unbridled optimism being shown by Demonlanders should be tempered a little I think. If KK was really as good as is being made out why was he traded? Why were GCS happy to see him go and why wasn't there any competition for his services? I don't know the answers but the fact the questions remain makes me hesitant to go all in on him being a success. It seems to me there is more to the story than just the concussion issues but we may never know. Like the majority, I'm happy with the pickup and think it has lots of upsides but there is a fair chance it will fail otherwise the particular deal wouldn't have been done.

  8. You know there is officially nothing proper left to worry about when people start worrying Goodwin might leave for more money.

  9. The biggest surprise in these odds is that Angus Brayshaw is 25/1 for the Brownlow. I only say that because as an "unknown" last year he still managed to come third. I would expect he will now be noticed even more by the umpires in 2019 and benefit from that. Of course, he will also now be subjected to more scrutiny from the opposition, but no more than the names ahead of him on the list.

  10. Not sure what you mean? As steak knives to the May trade, this is as good as it gets. Former pick 5 who has already proved himself to be a good player at AFL level. Get him past the concussion/neck issues and we've got another Brayshaw on our hands (in terms of possible impact). KK's skillset and physical attributes make him a potential elite footballer. I hope he can realise his potential and pick up his early career form where he finished second only to Ablett in their BnF (ahead of Lynch, May and other very good footballers). We're crying out for a good wingman to compliment our tough inside midfielders, and he could be the perfect option there. Looks good in the red and blue!

  11. Petracca averages 20 possessions a game that's Elite for a half-forward, what's with everyone wanting everyone to play heaps of midfield times, we have enough good players through the midfield, what's wrong with him becoming a great half forward, with pinch hits in the midfield, he just needs to sort out his set shot goal kicking, fix that up and he can kick 40 goals a season.

  12. Highlights package = grain of salt. But agree that looks impressive - clean ball winning capability, genuine easy break away pace, great agility, good team oriented play - blocking and running on to assist, nice kicking skills, good game sense playing on from free kicks. There's some nice highlights there: afterburners at 1:24, contest at 1:30, stood up in the tackle at 2:40, agility at 3:05. A bit of the Daniel Rioli there. I'm a buyer of what he's selling.

  14. My comments / observations are stupid ? Personally I think form over the last 2 years is a relevant indication of what someone can bring to the table. I have said a couple of times I trust the FD and their decision to recruit KK and wish him all the success in the world You can have your opinion and I can have mine but I will not be stupid enough to call your opinion stupid

  15. It's sad when the meaning of english words get expanded and twisted to fit whatever the latest liberalist agenda of the day is gaff is not a victim. he is a protagonist just having to deal with the consequences of his unsocial and stupid actions next we will call criminals victims because they have to do a stretch in the big house

  16. Bugg is a victim in the same way Gaff is. Self-inflicted, but nevertheless impacted by his own foolish action.

  19. 3 players in the bracket above for the Brownlow, good signs. If anyone is chasing longer odds, the skip is at $126. We’d love to see a full season from Viney, he polls easily.

  20. Agree with what you are all saying, but I don't think it's wise to think that Goodwin's comittment to the job he has with us is unshakeable and unchangeable if circumstances change. Let's say we are struggling mid way through the season, Goodwin remains unsigned beyond 2019 and there are noises that maybe he isn't the guy. It might be harder for Goodwin to resist a return to Adelaide if he was not contracted beyond the year with Melbourne and he might weigh up his families finacial stability above any sense of pride of commitment to his present playing group. Real or not even just the media speculation could create a sense of instability within the club. I think the sense of stability within the club over the past 4 years has been a key driver of our sucess. Just my take - Goodwin has shown enough to provide better certainty and stability for all by providing him with at least a 2 - 3 year contract extension now.

  21. Clubs hold on to good coaches. Coaches rarely leave unless they are sacked, or about to be sacked. They invest in development, game plans, coaching staff and most importantly their players. Think Clarkson, Buckley, Hardwick, Longmire, Simpson, even Scott Bros. Goodwin will join their ranks.

  24. I don't see a concern for him leaving the club and the team that he has put together over the last 2 years or being lured to another club. Goody would have loose screws in his head to even think of that. He is too devoted to his boys and the cause. There is some unfinished business that is awaiting. I have faith that he is in for the long haul.

  25. He plays for the Shockers now...He will get stick like any other ex player. Hopefully our defence keeps him quiet, i have no qualms with MFC Members reminding him where he once was. We were very good to Jesse.....

  26. I'm not sure where you were at the end of this season maybe in a coma? Sam Weideman came in when Hogan went out and kicked 8 goals in 5 games, and goals in every game - all against high quality opposition, 3 of them finals matches. That translates to 35 goals across 22 games. There's a reasonable expectation that with another pre-season Weed will be even better next year.

  27. Finished 4th in the 2018 B&F in a great year for the club. Clearly the FD still rate him. Explain that to me? One injury to the starting midfield of Oliver, Viney, Brayshaw, Harmes and he's straight in there. He has challenges ahead to adapt to a new role on the wing and probably half-forward but he's too good not to be in the 22. He's be in any club's best 22. The FD will find a way to use his talents and he'll need to rise to the challenge of adapting to his new role. If he can adapt to a new role there's no reason he can't play 2-3 more years - he has been incredibly durable.

  28. We achieved a lot this season. We broke our final drought, we ended the North Melbourne winning streak and made it al, the way to the prelim. Still, there was one “demon” we haven’t put to rest. We haven’t beaten Sydney since 2010 and are going to become a new North Melbourne unless we do. I really feel we need to end this losing streak before we go that one step further.

  29. Bedford is exactly the type of youngster to develop. Dees will grab him. It’s just which pick and what we have to give up.

  30. He should be around picks (excl nga/father sons) 17-25. Interesting to see what Dees do if he is available. I think we will call him out if he’s available.

  32. Can anyone say for certain that Tracca is not training to the seemingly "Maxie level" demanded by the commentators here?. What if he is and this is what maximum Tracca looks like or what if he is training to the level required by the FD for HF flanker and part time midfielder or what if he straightened his kicking and kicked 30 a year and dished off many more? He fills a valuable and vital role and, let's face it, not everyone can be a dashing Brayshaw or a ball magnet Oliver.

  36. It's quite possible that we could be struggling mid-year for a number of reasons other than the coach, but he will enviably bear the brunt of scrutiny. Just listen to PJ's podcast and he is also quite conscious that there could be some speed bumps still to encounter on the road to ultimate sucess. Would also agree that alot of the noise would just be media driven fugazi (as Goodwin would put it), but it might not be helpful to have all that around if we are say for instance trying to resign existing and/or trying to attract other players to join the team and/or it as much as the club would say that the noise was being ignored, it would still be somewhat there as a distraction none the less. As I stated in my original post, it sounds like the club are working on an extension to Goody's contract, and based on everything the man himself has outwardly projected to date, I don't have huge concerns, will just be glad when it's in the bag.

  37. I don't think it worried us when we were interested in Jake Lever. I have no problem at all with clubs talking to players during the season. It's a professional competition and the players and the clubs are both striving to make the best deals they can. Nevertheless, I don't like the NRL system where players announce during the season that they will be playing with a different team the following year, but I suspect it will inevitably happen in the AFL and we'll all just get used to it.

  38. Spot on. There was a sickening article in the Age last week about poor Gaff, what a contrast to Bugg. I know it is the off season and news is a littlethin but this one was the pits.

  40. Someone - a Melbourne listed player (probably Weideman) They - Weideman or other Melbourne listed players like Preuss or Frost, Smith Few - more than one. I expect whoever takes Hogan's place will kick at least 1-2 goals per match. (Hogan 2.1) My point being that we are not 50 goals a season worse off and we will defend better. I expect our percentage to be better next season.

  44. Why always so defensive in this way? Maybe he doesn't have the opportunity to ask? A non-condescending way to reply would be to say that you chatted to Jennings and got the impression that clubs want to investigate every new 'approach' as professional sport changes daily...

  45. He needn't have been worried. I reckon Mahoney planned his entire trade meet around bringing in big May, and as such, it was always a massive chance of happening. When you have a bloke who is willing to upset the nuffies, and take "unders" for a supposed star, and then pay "overs" for his target, he usually gets what he wants. I am confident everyone on 'Land will be beside themselves once they realise just how good this animal is....
