  1. The bombers totally bent us over in the Melksham/Hibberd trades didn't they? And we got robbed trading up the draft to nab Oliver and Weideman. Plus Adelaide are riding high with those draft picks they acquired for an AA defender with born leadership qualities. Have some faith for Christ's sake this administration has earnt it

  3. Well, it's like this: Jesse is 100 % gone, utmost reliable sauce. Jesse is 100% staying, impeccable sauce. Jesse wants $8mil for 8 years Peter Dumbbell is a liar. Jesse doesn't want $8mil Jesse is currently an UFA. Next year will be an UFA. The following 2 consecutive years he is an UFA. Jesse will go to Freo for 1year and return to Melbourne as an UFA. Dumbells are heavy but can fly. Iced vovos are not on the list but are. Tim Tams might be but Chocolate Royals are not. We are receiving 32 combinations of draft picks. It will all happen today definitely. It will all happen tomorrow definitely. AFL conspiracy will make it happen tomorrow night live on tv. Tom Scully is still a krunt. Rinse and repeat for next 20 pages. Jesse's manager says Dumbbell is a liar.

  5. I just want whatever deals we need done to suit our wanted outcomes. I'm not interested in the hystrionics , the spin , the bullshlt. I'm not particularly interested in screwing the other guys or taking their playlunch money. I don't care whether we LOOK good bad or whatever at trading as long as we actually get what we came for. Everyone else can muck around with the window dressing. It's irrelevant. It's not about winning trade week.. it's about successful outcomes for your/our club. What others end up doing is their preserve. Only one game you actually want to WIN.....it's in September.

  6. If we end up with May, KK and a mid 20 pick for Hogan, it isn’t unders or overs. It is taking care of business. We will have improved the list as per our plans, and although Hogan is a player of high capability and potential, he may deliver us a flag by departing. We will get stronger as a team, but lose an individual who could be brilliant. We also save $1mio per year in cap, which will be useful spread elsewhere.

  7. I made a general warning to all posters re: antagonizing, baiting, trolling etc. I gave you a private "friendly" warning regarding this. Consider this a public still friendly-but-cooling-a-la-Fremantle-to-Jesse-Hogan-in-your-humble-opinion warning.

  8. Due to Olisik's incorrect assertions it seems I also have to post this here. A few things... I doubt you know that every one of those goals was kicked on May. In fact, I know you don't, because Kennedy kicked 4 on him and Riewoldt 6. And key defenders are only as good as team structures and the quality of their midfield. You think May is slow when speed is one of his biggest strengths. This clearly tells me you have no clue about the player you're criticising. The following is from a recent article: In 2016 he (May) was the third-best defender in the competition behind Alex Rance and ahead of Jeremy McGovern, losing just 14 of 71 one-on-ones for the entire year. This season Gold Coast haemorrhaged inside 50s, giving up five more than the next-worst side. The offensive stuff is what elevates him above the dime-a-dozen stoppers. This year he averaged 17.4 disposals (second-most for key defenders), 334 metres gained (second most for key defenders) as well 7.6 intercept possessions, three intercept marks and 6.8 spoils (all above average). Put him into an good side with quality players around him and you have a weapon at full back. They (Melbourne) get Jake Lever back at some stage and improved their defensive mix late, but still were the fourth-easiest side to score against across the entire season. Slot him in alongside Lever and Max Gawn becomes an offensive threat again instead of being forced to play as a seventh defender at times as well as a ruckman. To sum up, Olisik, you're welcome to your opinion, but it's hopelessly misinformed.

  11. This whole trade period has become a farce!! Deliberately holding back announcing deals for Foxtel is ludicrous. Not one deal of significance has gone thru. Pending: Shiel Wingard Scully Lobb Kelly Beams Neale Hogan May That is a lot to get done in a few hours. Wouldn't be surprised if they start filming at Noon to make sure the paperwork is done in time. Then edit it down to a few hours to make it 'interesting and to look 'live' but delay putting it to air.

  12. Craig Cameron is a straight shooter and a very smart operator - no doubt he and Mahoney have a range of in principle deals ready to execute as soon as Freo get their shiit together.

  15. May, KK & pick 23 for Hogan is an ok deal. I wanted more, but I can live with this deal. I live in Qld these days and have been to many Suns games. I rate both May & KK. Especially May. We get 2 players who WANT to play for MFC and pick 23. I have been a big fan of Hogan, but there has always been something NQR with him. I wish him all the best at the Dockers. GO DEES!!! RAISE HELL!!!

  17. The Age article has us, hypothetically, getting May, KK and Pick 23 for Hogan. It's not a sexy deal by any means, but we address two needs - a key back and outside run - while still potentially maintaining a very potent forward line, while also holding on to our first round picks for the next few years that we can use for further moves over the coming seasons. It's a good outcome, although I can understand why people may see this as unders to begin with.

  18. Interesting point you make here. At the time of each trade from EFC (Mekly and Hibbo) i thought Dodo was asking for overs, and that we buckled WAY too easily. I thought our list management team bent over and took it while the Dons laughed all the way to the bank.... The trades were : Melksham: traded to Melbourne for pick 25 Hibberd : traded to Melbourne with pick 59 for picks 29 and 68 As i said, at the time i thought we paid too much, too easily. History has shown since then that either i know less than i than i thought, or our team knew more than i gave credit for. Obviously it was both. How many of our supporters would not do those trades all over again? It also shows that Dodo, for all his bad reputation, probably has a good handle on the value of his players. I wont be happy if Hogan goes for nothing more than pick 5, and will still be disappointed if its pick 5 and a solitary second rounder. This time though, at least i am sure that our list management team know a LOT more than me. Time to show our guys some trust. Reckon they have earned it.

Now please can we go back to waiting until 8:25pm Wednesday for the trade to drop, followed by the Demonland Podcast featuring the Peter Jackson interview and Trade Wrap Up Talk with @Grapeviney & @Nasher.

  24. That's not how I read the situation. It seems that May wants out at all costs prior to 2019 and will go to the Dees if the Hogan/Neale trade eventuates but if that trade falls over then he will play anywhere as long as it's in Melbourne (city) and not Gold Coast.

  26. The last two seasons we have drafted Hannan and Fritsch, two guys who have come in and been best 22 players. Taylor knows what he's doing. You can say we've been dudded, I'll go with the fact that we've addressed our needs and that our scouting and recruitment team are one of the best in the business.

  27. I think what a lot are overlooking is the actual role of the GM Footy Ops. He is responsible for all footy. List management, coaching, tech people, medical staff admin staff, property staff, the footy side of the Casey alignment and so on. Like Peter Jackson, he relies on the skills those he employs to produce the results. One of his major skills seems to be identifying the right people who can do the job. I think he's done a fantastic job. He's united a divided FD, he has overseen the culture we now have, our relationship with the players, their families and other clubs seems excellent. I don't know how much input he's had directly into the Oliver situation but he's responsible for employing those that did. He hasn't put a foot wrong. Well done Josh.

  36. A good mate lives in Perth and has delivered me a beauty this arvo..... He saw Jesse with his own eyes today and he was signing what could only be described as an autograph for a 8 yr old boy with a footy ? Regardless of what happens, and who was right or wrong, the fact remains that this is a young bloke with an immense talent who has had a pretty tough few years... We ride the MFC roller coaster with our hearts on our sleeves but we are merely fanatics, baying for blood, wine & a f'ing good time.... the AFL world is our colosseum! ?

  37. Fair to say myself and many others also are becoming quite cynical about this years trade period. Seems like all these media leaks are just a bunch of pantomime in anticipation of the trade telecast tomorrow. Reminds me of the lead up to WrestleMania back in the day. Farcical.

  38. HOW TOMORROW WILL PLAY OUT: Brisbane trade Beams, Pick 32 & 55 to Collingwood for Pick 18 & Future 1st Rd Pick. Brisbane trade Pick 5 & 18 to Melbourne. Melbourne trade Hogan & Pick 36 to Fremantle. Fremantle trade Neale & Pick 30 to Brisbane Melbourne trade Pick 5 & Future 3rd Rd Pick to Gold Coast for May & KK This means Bellend can trade Pick 11 & 23 to GWS for Lobb & Pick 14. West Coast trade Picks 20 & 22 to GWS for Picks 11 & 47 West Coast trade Pick 11 to Geelong for Kelly. Bombers trade Pick 9 & Future 2nd Rd Pick to GWS for Shiel & Future 4th Rd Pick ($cully trade). Am I missing anything/anyone???

  40. Keep in mind, though, that Hawthorn and the Cats have aging lists, all they've done is supplement their here and now deficiencies, while the Demoon List, apart from Jones and Lewis, is young and full of promise. I understand that Mahoney and his crew saw that what we need is a ready made back up for Gawn, another classy, tough proven backman and another running defender. Why would he need to tinker more?

  43. Mitch Cleary may have reported that Steven May is happy to play for any Vic club, but Jay Clark reckons this mega deal is in play and will happen before the deadline hits tomorrow night: "PREPARE for the blockbuster trade of all trades. Dayne Beams, Jesse Hogan, Lachie Neale and Steven May are all set to be part of a five-club deal that will leave Gold Coast with three of the top five picks in the draft. Herald Sun trade experts Jay Clark and Jon Ralph said Melbourne had softened on its demand of two first-round picks from Fremantle for Hogan and an agreement between the two clubs could unlock a string of other high-profile swaps. In the mega deal Brisbane would hand pick 5 to the Dockers for Lachie Neale, allowing them to release Dayne Beams to Collingwood. Fremantle would pass pick 5 on to Melbourne for Hogan, which will send it to the Suns for Steven May. Final details are still being hammered out and other draft picks will be involved, particularly to sweeten the Hogan deal although it will be short of the two first-round picks the Demons initially demanded. Melbourne will also end up with Gold Coast's Kade Kolodjashnij"

  44. I agree. With 5 they will have 2, 3, 5, 19, 24, 29, plus some later picks. With the 3 state league players coming in they don't have enough list spots to use all their picks - at my last count they have 3 spots (after May and Kade K go). I can see one of 19, 24, 29 coming back to us for some of our back end 2019 picks (3rd/4th round). They are keen to get points for next year's academy players so that sort of pick swap really works for them. I am only guessing but this is what makes sense to get a fair deal on May and it helps GCS with their 2019 list management. As an aside, if anyone thinks we shouldn't help GCS it is worth remembering that they helped us get Oliver, even after Howe put a spanner in the works and detoured to Pies.

  46. If we win a flag in the next 2-5 years on the back of a ballsy decision to effectively do a straight swap of Hogan for May and KK, picks won't matter one iota. Will they? Player movement has never been more active, the landscape is always changing and supporters need to get with the times. Whilst some of you worry about draft picks, clubs like Essendon, Collingwood, St Kilda, Hawthorn etc are becoming increasingly aggressive in this domain. Think for a minute how competitive the top 8 will be next year? The are 12 + teams who can make it. Goodwin and co have clearly identified that our window is here and it's now and our most pressing need is shoring up our defence as it was clearly our biggest weakness last year and was the sole reason teams were able to stay with us during games last year. My feeling is we're going to do a deal and there will be some unhappy posters on demonland. But I also have the feeling that Goody, being the ruthless, uncompromising competitor he is, wants a flag next year and can see we're within reach. Here's our chance.
