  1. It’s thoroughly ridiculous to declare the Tyson trade a bust because we might trade him out 5 seasons after the fact. He was a ready to go inside mid, who instantly made us better at the time. He might be surplus to requirements now but he was the player we needed in 2013 as the rebuild began.

  2. -Hogans points average on games played were top 5 in the B&F this year. He missed the top 10 due to missing games -Rd1 3 goals and 16 disposals rd 1 vs Geelong, Rd4 24 disposals and 1 goal vs Hawthorn, Rd5 22 disposals and 1 goal vs Richmond. Are they bad games as a CHF? You tell me. Personally I think they are decent games in a losing side. -Hogan averaged the highest amount of Goals and Marks for any player under 25 in the AFL this year. He is the highest ranked CHF in his age bracket in the Comp. - MFC traded 3 & 13 in exchange for Hogan, pick 20 and Dom Barry when Hogan was first drafted. The deal you are proposing is less than what we paid for him after Hogan has improved his value since he was drafted and the MFC has put significant development into him. It does not make sense that his value has diminished, but that is what you are saying. - If you believe the rumours the offer being put to Hogan by Freo would make him one of the highest earners in the Comp at $1.1-1.2m p/a. You can't expect to make a Godfather offer to a player to bring him across to another club and then expect to pay chump change as compensation to the club you are trading with.

  3. In an injury interrupted year last year Hogan kicked 3 against both Port (finalist) and the eventual premier Richmond. Key forwards reach their peak at 26, not 23. It's self-serving nonsense to suggest Hogan can't perform against top 8 teams.

  4. It's been a few pages since someone has asserted Jesse is an RFA at the end of 2019 That's progress I guess

  5. First time post. I agree have faith in the Football department. I attended an event late in the season with Simon Goodwin and Josh Mahoney as guest speakers. Simon Goodwin had said so many players from other clubs want to play for the Melbourne Football Club. We are a destination club. I'm completely calm and relaxed that Football department will ensure we will get two first rounds picks if Jesse Hogan goes to Fremantle.

  6. Ay storm boy, can you tell us which Swan we're getting for Vandenberg? Is it Melican?

  7. For all Brisbane have been a basket case in the past, they have been getting themselves together in the last year or two. Fagan's appointment was not sexy but it was a mature decision that shows the football community that they are professional organisation. Plus they have shown promise on field for a successful future. Neale has shown that he obviously doesn't rate Freo's next 5 years, or that playing football at the FFC is not enjoyable for him. Probably the later, given that there had been talk around him leaving for SA during previous contract periods. Either way, it's a terrible situation for Freo. They certainly need Hogan to sell some hope to their supporters. For Jesse, what price would you pay to go home?

  8. It's very interesting that BnF Neale wants out to a bottom 4 club not in his home state. He doesn't appear to have been offered the mega deal say Gaff has been offered at North either although he appears equally qualifed. Not much appears to be made of this move in discussions or the media. I guess it's because it's WA to Qld and it's out of direct view in Victoria. It's a massiive move IMO.

  9. I wonder who we’ll choose out of Preust and Preuss. We seem keen on both.

  10. Are you sure it was Jesse's actual account? His last post was 9 weeks ago https://www.instagram.com/jessebhogan/ BTW - has anyone who follows him seen '01' on his account in the past? He did a medical at Freo on Thursday. Unlikely to do that if he was coming back. Mahoney said they expected to hear from Jesse through his manager again indicating that he was unlikely to be back in Melbourne at this time.

  12. I don’t think the club are keen on Hogan only extending for another two years, it’s either sign long term or explore your options elsewhere.

  13. What do you mean ‘compare Hogan to Vanders?’ One cannot go to the airport without a journalistic escort and the other isn’t recognised by Dees fans. There is no comparison to how they have handled their completely different circumstances.

  14. We needed a player like Tyson at the time we got him, it’s just a shame he’s regressed so quickly. Salem has become a very good and important player for us.

  15. Billings was our preferred pick ahead of Kelly. So ‘losing’ the Tyson/Salem vs Kelly trade is a moot point

  17. Range Rover or E25? Or were they the same person? I've never understood why people create multiple accounts. A bit weird.

  18. Tom $cully would make a great fit at Arden Street. They could also get his old man in to replace the gasometer.

  19. Agree that it's a massive endorsement of Brisbane. That must encourage the AFL re GC's dire position. If they can get the admin and fundamentals right then Qld can be an attractive destination. It shows that getting the fundamentals right is key to turning around FCs, not priority picks. See MFC for example. GC is really the AFLs only major problem and this shows it can be sorted. Carlton are a temporary basket case which will eventually resolve.

  20. There is no way in the world freo made there offer to hogan without knowing they would have to cough up two top end draft picks to get him. They probably didn’t expect Lobb to be on the market as well #5 &#6 for Jesse hogan or F off freo he’s contracted so pay up. #6 grabs Steven may who fills a significant hole for us. #5 is the really important one. I’m sure we are sniffing around for an established outside mid. Could we get in on the Polec chase at the last minute and offer #5 for Polec & #9 considering they were ready to accept #11 for him alone. i also love bailey smith as a player and have no objection to going to the draft and bringing him in to further build our already handy talent pool.

  21. They're contracted to drag out negotiations until 5 minutes before the deadline.

  22. I don't think we have to look for mysterious ailments/attitudes. Surely the proposition that we want a long term commitment for stability knowing he might leave at the end of next year, and we can get more for him now than then, and possible plug immediate holes elsewhere in the team, is sufficient explanation of why all this is happening and driven by MFC.

  23. The alternate reality to the Tyson/Salem/Hunt trade is not Kelly - it is Billings. Score one for the trade there... The alternate reality is not Kelly roaming the flanks in front of the MCC - it is watching Billings at Casey and moaning about another draft disaster without Salem on our HBF.

  24. Cockburn We've covered that, but in the interest of this thread reaching 200 pages before the trade period starts, worth another going over

  25. You think the Pies will just walk away next year with Dunn and Goldsack probably retired?

  26. Why should he be disregarded? Is it his good year at Casey that has turned you off? The bloke could be good depth for us going forward. I don't know why I'm bothering to argue the point with you as you've got your mind made up, but I think you're wrong.

  28. There's a more appropriate place for Jones discussion probably in his upcoming main board review thread but suffice to say people have very short memories. Along with Clarrie he carried our inside midfield at the start of the year before Brayshaw blossomed, Viney's first stint and Harmes amazing development. The BnF results are testament to this. Sure he has been legitimately pushed out of the starting set to the wing which doesn't suit his game but he's too good not to be in the 22 and is 1st cab of the rank to fill any starting inside vacancy. People should show due respect.

  33. Interesting to see what happens here. Mahoney was circumspect when it came to Preuss on trade radio. I think one of the big reasons we chased him was because North had to off load cheaply him to free up salary cap. They probably don't have to do that now. So either we pay more for him to satisfy North or we move to other targets. What's out there? Jordan Roughead? Levi Casboult? Zac Smith?

  35. This is a terrible post in my opinion. Lost his dad to cancer last year after a long battle, went on to suffer cancer himself, dealing with all this while away from home and only 23yo - and then came out to play the best footy of his career in the first half of the season before injury halted his year. Some may question his onfield demeanour or workrate but to question his "grit" - geez, I'd love to see how others might handle the situation if they walked a mile in his shoes.

  36. With SOS as list manager and the old boys club remaining, Carlton have a distinctly old MFC, living off past glories vibe about them. I reckon they're in trouble as a club.

  38. Yeah, nice post. Perhaps unfortunately, I don’t see the world in black and white. But I understand that many in Kansas do. To assess Gaff’s entire character and personality on that one incident, is the very reason we no longer endorse public lynching as a society, even though many rednecks would love to have it back. It seems that Andrew Brayshaw has forgiven him - good on you for continuing to hold the grudge though.

  39. Exactly ..... and imo he hasn't 'regressed' at all, but has been 'overtaken' as an inside mid by Viney, Oliver, Brayshaw and Harmes, who are among the best in the business.

  41. Two lawyers in a restaurant FMD! I couldn't come up with a joke for that but here's a true story. I recently read that the major research universities are removing rats from laboratory experiments and replacing them with lawyers. They gave three reasons for this- There are more lawyers than rats Laboratory assistants grieve when a rat dies. There are some things even a rat won't do.

  42. He is very good depth and we all talk about our inside mids like both Viney and Gus haven’t had injury concerns. Who is to say Viney can play 25 games a year? Next year? Maybe ever. With Viney injured, we saw the value of Tyson. If he wants to stay, I’ll be happy to have him on our list. If he wants to go, I hope we get decent compensation for him. He is not a bad player.

  44. Okay that argument needs to be nipped in the bud. Not all first round picks are of equal value. You do realise the two first rounders Adelaide received off us for Lever ended up being picks 10 & 16. That is a far cry from the 4 & 5 or even 5 & 9 people want for Hogan. Lever is a star, worth every bit of picks 10 & 16 and the FD did the right thing getting that deal done early in trade week regardless of whether or not he was contracted. The Hogan situation is a different kettle of fish requiring a whole different approach.
