  1. Jordan Lewis just said on 3AW, the crowd last night was in the top 3 crowds he’s ever played in front of. He said the noise and support for us was phenomenal.

  2. When they played the national anthem, the Melbourne players and their coach stood as one with arms interlocked while their Geelong counterparts stood as individuals. It’s all about the team and not individuals and our boys played like a team all night - the others played for themselves as exemplified by their captain’s tantramous exit onto the interchange bench in the third quarter when he robbed his team of a certain goal at a crucial time in the game.

  3. Charlie Spargo – 5 The first-year youngster was not overawed in his first final, but as you would expect he did not have a lot of impact on the game. What he did best was dish the ball to teammates, ending the night with three score assists – the most of any player on the ground.

  4. I finally got bed at 12:30am and slept soundly for no more than a couple of hours. I then woke up and replayed highlights from the match over, and over, and over in my head. At one point I was thinking about the reaction of the Melbourne crowd to our victory, and realised that I had tears streaming down my face. It was 4:00am for God's sake. That's what this footy club means to this silly old fart, and I suspect a great many of you folks. Thanks for enduring my nonsense.

  6. Incredible effort for Tyson to get up from a fracture arm sustained less than 2 weeks ago, and he coexisted with Viney and the other inside mids.

  8. Wow what a game and atmosphere. The members was rocking tonight. It was nice to sit around all Melbourne supporters. I hared Jones say it felt like an interstate crowd except they were all cheering for us. Juts loved the 1st quarter. It was great. Never in my wildest dreams did I think we would kick the 1st 5 and hold them goalless. Loved Weidermans game. Brilliant marking and a handy 3 goals. Jetta was fantastic. He gets knocked, pulled, pushed but still gets up and gives everything. Jones, so happy for him that he kicked the 1st goal of that final term. Loved harmse's game. Enjoyed Frost down back as well, even Oscar took some nice marks. Just happy happy happy. Max Gawn is just the best. We are so lucky to have him.

  10. On the Fox after match show u could see how proud Paul Roos was. You couldn’t wipe the smile from his face and the crowd was chanting ROOSY. We owe that man so much.

  21. Being born just before the turn of the century I never really got to fully experience finals footy. I was there in '06 against the Saints but don't remember a single bit of it. Being there tonight next to my old man and seeing the joy on his face I knew this team is special and we have the ability to make things happen. Here's to you boys who wear the red and blue proudly. What a fantastic night. Up the Dees!!!

  26. Finally home. I’m so emotionally drained. It hasn’t fully sunk in yet. I’m gonna enjoy the replay tomorrow. I must say Lewis was outstanding tonight. The man can play finals!

  28. Jetta is marvelous. He is just a rock. I never leave a game disappointed in how he’s played. I never worry when he’s in a one on one contest. I never fear he won’t go hard when it’s his turn. He is just the greatest.

  29. For all the petty bickering on this website, the reality is - we’re the heart and soul supporters. I loved that game. That experience. I am pumped. I love youse all! Time to watch the replay.

  30. Tyson and Spargo were our poorest performers but Tyson did break his arm like two weeks ago, so let’s keep that in mind. I think in highly contested finals he is important as he is very good at extracting the footy, and he allows us to rotate other mids between the Centre and the wing (eg- Brayshaw). I don’t think they’ll drop anyone. However if they did I would be tempted to drop Spargo, push Fritsch up forward and bring in Smith (Joel) or Hunt to play off half back. But it’s quite a big structural change and could be risky. Don’t mess with a winning formula I say. No change.

  31. Haha. The Watts QB goal was the first time I’d seen one of these, but this one definitely tops it. What a moment. Someone in the cheer squad got the happiest falcon of their life too by the looks.

  37. Bring tonight's pressure game and convert a bit better and we should account for Hawthorn. Anything less than that though and we're in trouble. But on tonight's performance we were brilliant. Weideman, Harmes and Max were the standouts for me. Quite incredible to think Weed could stand up in a final like that and Harmes is a truly dominant mid now. He is matching it with Clarry and Gus. When you add Viney's tackle pressure, our midfield really could rip any other midfield in the comp in two. I want to see more composure inside 50 next week, but generally, they made us proud on the big stage. We go again. And how was that MFC crowd!? Incredible. At least 65-70,000 were Melbourne. At least. We keep this up and we'll walk in 50,000 members next year. It shows that if we can have some sustained success (and I mean flags), our dormant supporter base has the capacity to reach at least 65,000 members. And if you win flags, you get the kids jumping on board and 70,000+ becomes very attainable in the next 5-10 years. The most exciting aspect about tonight was ticking off the mental barrier of winning a final. We saw what impact that had on Richmond for years. Well, we've ticked that off now. The other thing this victory tonight does is really announce us to the footy world and stamp us as contenders over the next 3-5 years. We play a brand that stacks up in finals and will only get better as our younger players develop. This finals experience too will hopefully hold them in really good stead for next year, whatever the outcome from here on is in 2018. And if I'm an opposition player, I'm wondering how do I get to Melbourne to play with these guys. Andrew Gaff, Dylan Shiel. These types. Lever saw it. Lewis saw it. Nights like tonight I'm front of 91,767 put us in that destination club conversation even further. Well done, PJ! And well done MFC.

  38. I think James Harmes can now be spoken of in the same terms as Viney, Oliver and Brayshaw. Ironically, if he was selected with the Petracca pick rather than as a rookie he already would be. Instrumental.
