Hi guys, long time reader, first time poster. Went to have a look at training this morning. Impressions as follows: - very light session focused on skills and touch - a few drills where they broke into several groups aimed at hitting up a player quickly in congestion with a 25 metre pass, with half of the players the attacking targets and the other half (wearing pink bibs) the defenders looking to spoil - Tyson surprisingly sharp here with his passes (his foot skills are underrated) - Melky and Hibberd doing laps and kick to kick. Neither looked overly impeded, although both still look to be around 90% - Viney doing laps in sneakers - looked to be running well with no obvious discomfort - Oliver and Petracca very close and love each other’s company - lots of man love between those two - Petracca’s kicking for goal not as sharp as it could be, trajectory seems a bit ’stabby’ at times (similar to Melksham). I wonder if the same traits that make both of them excellent field kicks somewhat impede them when kicking for goal - Gawn looked to be moving very well and participated fully in all drills - will definitely play - Vince on the sidelines with Todd Viney and a few others looking on, felt a bit sorry for him but probably the right call to give him a rest - Hunt looked good, but kicking skills still need a bit more polish - Harmes still had his glove but was looking super confident and was regularly landing 45 metre goals off a step from boundary. Taken another big step this year. Seems like a really nice bloke too - I was on the fence watching them kick for goal and he made a point of coming out to where I was to say g’day and how my morning was going Really positive vibe and energy around the place - lots of camaraderie, laughter and encouragement. Great to see. Go Dees!

There’s something enormously satisfying about Geelong losing.

Of course I remember his cowardly attacks on Peter Giles and Steven Smith -jaw breaking blows when his opponents were not looking, and this is another one although it might have been in a contest. Someone in the comments says Matthews might have handed out plenty but he copped plenty as well...that's laughable, no one ever hit so many people so violently behind the play. He is a repulsive human being. That is now is a commentator on such incidents is an indictment on our media.

Why? Hawthorn and Eagles winning is dream scenario. Fewer teams in contention is good. Really don't understand people wanting Geelong and Port to win today.

Good for us RGRS. We win tomorrow then we go a game clear of Port who then have the Pies next week. WC are too far ahead on the ladder to worry about them, need to keep those close to us at bay. Worry about who we play and where once we actually qualify for finals, yeah.

Matthews, great player, thug. We had one and he is loved on here. Rod Grinter. Saw him at PP one day end a young kids career in the two's by flattening him and as he lay unconscious on the ground high five his teammates as he ran to the backline. The kid never played again and was still unconscious hours later. Having said that Rod wasn't renowned for hitting players behind the play but the avoidable damage he did to players was significant. Jack Dyer was a thug as were many others. It's was a different era with different expectations and standards. Thankfully we are moving on. But just because blokes like Matthews and Brereton were thugs doesn't mean their opinions aren't relevant or they don't have great knowledge of the game. In fact, they probably have a better understanding of football violence and it's motives than most.

I've spent time at under 18 level with Spargo. Picket is right in a way. Hes definitely not the quickest out there. With his lack of pace he makes ip for it with his incredible work rate and gut running. Caleb Daniel is not quick either, but like Spargo their workrates are never questioned.

Very light session that lasted about 30 minutes. Some light kicking drills to begin with and Max was involved kicking both feet. A couple of goal kicking drills followed and Max didn’t participate fully. Went for some straight runs under they eye of one of the coaches. Went up for a few jumps centre bounce style also. Didn’t seem hampered although he left a tad earlier than everyone else. Definately no AVB out there. Hibbo and Melksham still out there putting in the hard yards with running.

Hi all. Not sure if a new thread is warranted, passing by Goschs and stopped for a visit. Melksham, Hibbo and Viney the only ones out there so far. Melksham and Hibbo running laps and then onto some warmup exercises. Viney waking laps with the occasional jog in between. Sounds like Max will play but I’ll be on Max watch if I stick around long enough.

I hate seeing anyone injured and in pain, but honestly suck a dick GWS you manufactured soulless franchise.

I was in Neil’s year in medical school. Went to the match to see him play and was sickened by the incident. Have hated that thug Matthews ever since.

I’m gutted if this is true. One guy who deserved to at least be in the mix for this part of the journey If this is it thank you so much Bernie we’ll never forget your time at MFC. You’re just as part of this club as some of our greats.

Processing out loud, just trying to work out best results. From a safety-first perspective on the udnerstanding that we beat Sydney. Games of interest to us are - North v Foosctray. North only have the 11 wins. Any loss makes it impossible for them to pass us. So if they lose to the Bulldogs on Sunday they cease to be a threat. This also means that only one more team needs to be eliminated from the possibility of passing us, for us to be secure in the 8. Hawthorn vs Geelong Geelong are currently on 11 wins. And while their percentage is a bit better than North's, realistically* any loss would prevent them getting to the 14 wins they'd need to pass us. The asterix is a note acknowledging MFCSS. Hawks play Sydney in rnd23. Thus, after this round, only one of Hawks/Swans can get both wins in the remaining two rounds. So if Geelong lose, they stop being a threat to us, and if Hawthorn lose then only one of Sydney/Hawks can pass us. Ergo, therefore, y'know what... if we beat Sydney, it doesn't really matter who wins out of Geelong/Hawthorn because one of the three (Sydney/Hawks/Geelong) won't be able to pass us, which means our lowest credible* result is 8th. If you are really anxious, then probably the 'best' result is for Hawthorn to smack Geelong and take a slice off their percentage. Even as it is, if Geelong lose to the Hawks by, say, a kick after the siren, then they would still need to be pick up about 150+ points of margin on us in each of the final two rounds. Collingwood vs Brisbane and Port vs West Coast. Collingwood play Port in rnd 22. So again, only one of these two can get a full board in the last two rounds. If both lose this round, then one additional team gets added to the 'no threat' category. And for the optimist's perspective, again on the understanding we beat Sydney - Giants vs Crows If the Giants manage to fluff this game, then in rnd 23 that 14th win we'd be playing for would guarantee finishing ahead of all of North, Geelong, Sydney, GWS, and one of Port/Collingwood. Hawks v Geelong For the optimists a Geelong victory is the preference as this would peg Hawthorn a game and % behind us, meaning that only one more win is necessary to guarantee finishing ahead of them. Which in turn means that the rnd 23 game against the Giants would be playing for a certain top-4 finish. Collingwood vs Brisbane and Port vs West Coast. Much the same situation for the optimists as the pessimists. However, if you are feeling really, really optimistic (that we'll win both the final rounds) then you want West Coast to drop this game because that opens up the possibility of a top-2 finish. So there it is. Very simple for the pessimists. A bit more complicated if your heart is still reaching out for top 4 or even the suddenly possible top 2! I'll be happy for the Hawks to just whack Geelong to put everyone here in a good mood.

I am a fan of Tyson but he had to lift and he has. The real fallacy is that ‘we don’t need Tyson.’ In form, he is an accumulator of footy with a great footy IQ and above average skills. And a best 22 player. We talk often about ‘your bottom 6’ players and what that means. If Tyson is in form and in that group - I know what that means...

My source tells me this morning that the calf is much improved. Max could not fully weight bear on that particular side earlier in the week but is now walking freely without discomfort. Will be put through some running tomorrow morning and if he pulls up ok he will be right to go. My source is confident Max will play which was music to my ears!

Gets worse. A few days ago Leigh was asked why he hadn't spoken to Bruns, who has reached out several times to meet him. Leigh said simply because he didn't want to and in a fairly pathetic comment said " now you have reminded me of the incident and refreshed it". He was angry at that. Pretty pathetic answer from a so called tough guy. I saw him king hit Steven Smith and Peter Giles from behind, knocking them out and causing further damage and they were two of the most vicious, unprovoked, assaults I have ever seen on a football field. While I think he is the best player all around, I have seen, he was also a thug. Not that he was the only one of course, in days gone past, but the condemnation of Gaff for one incident, when compared to these thugs of the past is quite startling.

The team is out there now. A bit of panic set in when I couldn’t see Hogan and saw number 26 running around. Hogan is wearing 26. Max participating fully although it seems a very light session at the moment. Hannan is training and I can’t spot AVB.

Ideally, the Hawks smash Geelong today, making it even harder for them to make up % in the last two games. I bet 95% of neutrals want Geelong to miss the 8. The meltdown from Chris Scott would be hilarious, and the Dangerfield era promises to be wasted. All the preseason hype about the holy trinity... puke.

I agree that Mitch Hannan is the likely carry over emergency for the MFC. Normally, I would be concerned about the low number of MFC aligned players in the team but with the likes of Corey Wagner, Lockhart, Hutchins, Munro, Machaya, Gent etc. the VFL contingent is a lot stronger than in the past and in good form. They should at least provide the extra depth for a win today. That said, Cam Pedersen has been an important component of the team structure to date and his presence will be missed.

Biffen does not like to boast too much as you will all agree he is a modest and brilliant man. But Biffen did spend a night amongst the gauche and ridiculously wealthy on the Portsea cliff one summer soiree last year dancing with Mrs Judd and her coterie. Chris arrived to pick her up at about 3am after I'd worn her out. There was more than a little warmth to the starving stripling that night but I'm sure this was an isolated incident. Chris appeared to be dull and brooding, no doubt cold, terribly sober and a very serious young insect.Poor chap.

Tigers entire gameplan revolves around scragging off the ball. Evidently you give away a lot of free kicks but you also get to manhandle your opponent constantly so it still works out in your favour. Tigers should get way more frees payed against them than they do.
