  1. He should just concentrate on getting minutes on the ground in any position before he starts demanding more time in the midfield (if true). I’d like to see him stay with us.

  2. Last year Collingwood was a shambles: Gubby was suspended, Eddie was under pressure on many fronts and nearly cost CFC major sponsors. Pert fell on his sword. There are no secrets in the AFL. Any dirty laundry Pert had would have been well aired and the club would have quizzed him as they did Goodwin when he came from Ess. We have come too far and too much work still to do for our Board to take the chance with someone who can't deliver and keep the solid culture PJ et al have created. Trust Jackson. Trust the Board. They haven't let us down yet. I don't think they have this time.

  6. Pisd poor effort saying Trengove was a disgrace.. at the end of 2011 Trengove was talked up as one of the brightest young talents of the competition. His first 2 years were far better then what Petracca and Brayshaw had put together in their 1st 2 years. What absolutely ruined his career was the burden of the captaincy at age 20 and then a serious career threatening foot injury which took 2 years to heal. By the time he came back, he'd lost all his power and speed that once possessed. Trengove wa also one of the most hard working and professional player in our team and did every right to try and get back to his best, but unfortunately the damage was already done. He had a team first attitude and not once ever complained when he was constantly getting overlooked for selection last year. Hes all class in my eyes.

  7. Well another ex Fitzroy person at Melbourne. There's a lot of us up in the Redlegs,. His father Brian played 125 games with the dear old FFC. And after Roosy coached our wonderful club I'm starting to feel really at home .

  8. Quotes from the article: "He was endorsed by the Demons board on Wednesday after being described as the standout candidate from a short-list of five. Pert, who comes with the blessing of the AFL, will replace Peter Jackson, who is contracted until the end of October". "The Demons considered Pert the perfect fit for a club on the rise, as well as his expertise in new facilities as Melbourne is set to announce plans for a new training and administration base away from their current set-up at the MCG and adjacent AAMI Park". For mine, he fits the bill of having a breadth of experience in clubs and the industry, knows his way around the halls of AFL HQ and is our Board's choice. The more I think about it the more I like it. He is a very good operator. No leaks! Well done MFC for keeping it quiet!

  9. Big coup. Very experienced with many contacts in the media and corporate space. Given how things ended with the filth i imagine he will have a point to prove. Welcome.

  11. FFS... It’s going to be a long 9 days until the Port game. People on this joint need to chill the f&$k out. We weren’t going to go undefeated for the rest of the year... One loss in 7 weeks and everyone loses their mind.

  12. Who would you trust to build a training base at Gosch's? Josh Mahoney - jointly in charge (with list management committee) of allocating a salary cap amongst the 44 players and doing some trade deals, as well as resourcing the coaches and players Or: Gary Pert - overseen a club that turns over maybe 77 mil in revenue and has built the Holden Centre with all the same stakeholders to deal with. If we are smart and rate Mahoney so highly then the succession will actually be from Pert to Mahoney after Pert has built us a training base.

  13. Hoping one of the first items on his agenda is to dump the NT or, at the very least, negotiate a minimum 7 day break. Queen's Birthday negotiations could be very interesting!

  14. I'm hoping this will be a good appointment as I'm sure we all are. For those worried about negative inside mail from Collingwood people, we got the same negative stuff about PJ from the EFC people on his announcement. If Pert is as big a disaster as PJ has been I will be a happy man.

  15. He has an outstanding record with Channel 9, Austereo Network, SEN and Collingwood. I find it hard to believe that there are rumours about his character or standing amongst his colleagues when he has been a successful operator in business for such a long time. On appearances he is an outstanding appointment and the rumours about why he left Collingwood is just noise at this stage. I believe the current board and PJ would do their thorough homework before pulling the trigger to hire him.

  16. When it was announced by the AFL that PJ was coming into the club, I was disgusted that a former Essendon boss was putting his grubby paws on my beloved club... I’ve never been more wrong. I'm prepared to give former Fitzroy fullback Gary Pert a go.

  17. I think, on the face of it, that it's a terrific appointment. If the AFL and Peter Jackson are happy with it and endorse it, then I can't see a problem with it. The bloke knows the game, knows how to be a CEO and has a good track record of doing good things. Outside of rumours ad rumblings, which we have no idea how true they are, this seems like a great move for the club.

  18. I hope not 'rp'...It's not only churlish but just plain wrong. I've just been watching a replay of the game and Tyson was clearly BOG and I didn't notice him waxing with Bugg. Just looked up the club site and the article was written by Ben Gibson, obviously the work experience kid...

  19. We will win the premiership, one bad loss won't make our season. We will bounce back against Port and go undefeated for the rest of the season. Bring in Baker and Petty and watch us fly. TAKE THAT DEEFELLA GO THE MIGHTY DEES!

  21. You know we haven't 'stuffed' up yet, right? So you're astonishment is somewhat misplaced... I helped coined the term 'MFC Supporter Syndrome' and knew that different forms of it would follow as we got better but this is ridiculous. 10 rounds to go, champ. Hope your nerves can handle it.

  23. If Mahoney wants to be a CEO surely he should be willing to spend some time in the business side of the club rather than just the footy side which he currently operates. I know he has been to uni and has various degrees, but at the end of the day they are just bits of paper. Nothing prepares you to do the job other than being involved in doing the job. He's got no experience in business as far as I am aware other than being in the footy department. I'm all for promoting from within but appointing Mahoney ahead of a candidate like Pert would be close to stupidity in my opinion.

  24. @Sir Why You Little You ask what happened? From the Crows Chairman: https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/crows-chairman-makes-concession-on-camp-20180614-p4zlg6.html “The people that were running the camp probably could’ve explored better ways of using some terminology that might’ve had an impact on our Aboriginal Indigenous players … we addressed that some months ago." Yet the company, Collective Mind is still running programs for them and their captain is proudly on the Home page of said company's website. http://www.collectivemind.com.au/ That they are still using the company and that what was said/way it was said has been described as 'unthinkable' makes one wonder where the Crows really are at with their indigenous policies and respect and support of indigenous players. Given that the camp was in some secret place, out of contact with the outside world (and family) it is easy to understand how Eddie might be very uncomfortable with his place at the Crows. The way Eddie has handled this shows he is the one with dignity and integrity.

  25. Wonderful insight and a fantastic interview. Loved every minute of it, one of the things that stood out were the comments about Grimes and Trengove. High praise for both of them even though it didn’t work out in the end for both of them. “Lunacy” used to describe their appointment as co-captains at such a young age.

  28. Leigh Matthews was a thug. The statue of him outside the MCG should not be there. He broke Neil McMullin’s face in an off the ball punch and many others too. He is the only player to have been charged by the police for punching another person on the football field. He was not a great footballer. He was a lout.

  29. Again, these posts would have a lot more credibility if they popped up during our six week winning streak. If you written this then, you could have said that ‘Despite the excellent form, is see a worrying trend....’ etc. That would have made this a lot more insightful and less like a bit of bandwagoning flaggelation. People make bold predictions after big wins and big losses, but ultimately lose sight of the big picture.

  30. Currently the club is in a stable position, however the club has just made a big decision to give up a cash cow (pokies). Over the next couple of years the club is going to have to raise revenue significantly. The club might be purring like a well oiled machine now but it's going to take a good operator to replace the revenue we have chosen to relinquish. From what I can tell Pert has a good network in the media through TV and radio. I'm hopeful that he'd be able to leverage off that to raise the clubs profile and in the process drive revenue higher. Hopefully he can help negotiate a better fixture for more exposure through free to air games and then raise more through sponsors and the onflowing effects.

  31. For those concerned by his record at CFC ... was he ever really allowed to run his own race there? Eddie is president, CEO, footy manager, list manager, marketing manager and even second-guesses how the boots are studded. I'm inclined to think Pert did well there in spite of the handicap placed on him. One thing: he knows what a big powerful club looks like and how it behaves.

  35. Kent lost me as a player last year on the back of a string of lazy performances. For all his promise and potential weaponry, he just doesn't get enough of the ball or effect enough contests. For a player of his speed, power and supposed physicality, he averages just 2 tackles and game and has kicked over 3 goals just once in his career (4 goals, round 3 2016). He's recorded over 20 disposals in a match six times in his career, 5 of those times were in 2016; did very little before and very little since.

  36. A better option than Tom Bugg, but that's not saying much. May make it in a new environment but have said for many years, he won't make it at Melbourne. Best for both parties if he moves on. A bit like Howe, Dunn and Watts. He's run his course here.

  37. That’s my point. His weight does not necessarily stop him from having a tank - as per Wines. I think Petracca’s problem is between his ears. He needs a serious wake up call now, or he’ll always be that guy who threatens to have a brake out game - and this blog can not afford another one of those.

  39. Just listened to the podcast - well done guys: some great questions. I don’t know why, but I always get a bit emotional when I hear Roos talk about his journey with the MFC. His opinions on the club have the benefit of true insight and should be listened to for a more measured analysis of where we are at right now. Regarding QB, he simply said that the Pies played really well and we didn’t play so well. That was it - no panic stations. He said that you can’t compare the current club and team to 2013/14 as it is a completely different entity - that club no longer exists. His only expectation is that we play finals this year, which continues our planned trajectory and sets us up for sustained finals over the next 5-8 years.

  40. Rough week, Dee? It seems like you're clutching at as many straws as possible to be negative about Monday in as many ways as you can. Examples: - The club has always shown the speech, or at least some of it, that Daniher gives to the players. Did you complain about it last year? Probably not as we won. But now that we've lost it's a point of contention? Please. - Goodwin wasn't mocking members, he was mocking the stereotype. We all hate it, and for the slide he embraced it. I didn't realise we needed to get the fun police out for this one. - A total assumption that Collingwood played for Neale. How do you know this? Again, clutching at straws. - And we have very good defensive substance. We've seen it action plenty of times this season. The loss of our general, Jake Lever, will impact on this until we can settle again. I don't know why this game has gotten to you so much, but the only thing I agree on above is that we wilted under the pressure of a big game. It's happened a few times (and a few times we've stood up over the last 18 months) and no doubt it needs to be addressed. But the rest, in my opinion, is you acting like a petulant child and throwing your toys out of the cot.

  41. I'm starting to see in Petracca what was predicted for Watts : a player about to have a break-out game. He's been around for a good while now and hasn't produced much more than glimpses of possibility. What's the go Christian? Are you a gun who is just a little bit over-awed, a bit shy? Not likely, but! Have a look at young Spargo. No glamour there but he's kicked more goals than you have recently. And he tackles hard too.

  42. I saw that as an oversight - I watched a bit of that game on 7 Plus and Tyson was getting it at will and hitting targets. If it isn't an oversight then I have an even bigger issue with the FD. It would be petty to leave him out of the bests because he wasn't the best version of himself even when being the best player on the field.

  43. I like him because he's a good bloke. Sue me. I really dislike Leigh Matthews, still, because despite being the best footballer i have ever seen he was a malicious thug whose violence had a disturbing element of premeditation to it. Unlike some players from his era who 'just snapped' (eg Robbie Muir, Carman) 'Lethal' hit opponents (often behind the play) who were beating him. No better example being the day he king hit Steve Smith at Princess Park after Smith was giving him a bath.

  45. Trengove WAS NOT a disgrace. He had a horrid run with injuries which seriously hindered his development. No one could question his efforts for MFC. A Quality young man who got dealt some bad cards. Scully still rankles me (as does O'Meara). Goes to a club in draft. Shows potential, gets injured and the Club gets him back on the park patiently and then they up & leave .( Partly the AFL's fault though

  46. These comparisons between players is all a bit pointless. Players have different physical and mental attributes. In the old days, no-one compared Barassi with Dixon or any of the other Demon stars of the time. Barassi was Barassi, Dixon was Dixon. However, they made up a champion team. In the 80s, we did not compare Lyon with Viney etc. Lets hope we play in a Grand Final and Brayshaw dominates in the midfield all day and Petracca pops up in the last quarter and kicks 3 quick goals to win the match. They have different attributes, skills sets and different on-ground behaviours. Its about molding those individual attributes into a champion team.

  47. A Night at the Bolshoi... When in Moscow one does what the Muscovites do. The Bolshoi ballet is certainly no longer the "people's ballet" with tickets at a few roubles but it was worth the money to see this wonderful company. I'm no follower of ballet so there was a lot of googling beforehand to work out what was going to happen.Even with my prior research I nearly left before it finished. How you may ask.... well after about two hours or more we got to a spot where the whole cast took a bow etc with everyone clapping etc as they do at the end of a show. Strange I thought they haven't done the "Shade dance" which this ballet is famous for. Off to pick up my backpack from the cloak room and the Russian matron said, "Not Finished". Back I went and watched the last act. It seems that as many of the dancers don't appear in the final act those not needed take their bow mid show and go home !! The ballet was called La Bayadere one which the Bolshoi made famous and the spectacle of the final act as the corps de ballet descends from shade into light is stunning. To ballet aficionados it rivals swan lake as one of "the" scenes in ballet. While the dancing was great , the theatre itself is a star. Completely renovated and re-opened in recent years it looks like when it was visited by the czars. A great night and worth the obscene price. And yes .. it went for three and a half hours!!! Arrived in Kazan today ...more on this city almost bordering Asia tomorrow.....( The Aussie training camp is behind a very high wall so no free views.)

  48. Not sure if this has been posted anywhere - Tom Mc and Oliver made TOTW. http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2018-06-13/oliver-mcdonald-in-team-of-the-week And on FC the other night Chris Judd named Oliver as the best under 21y.o. in the league and will one day win a Brownlow?

  49. Seriously...do you want a bozo badge? You were one of the most vocal during the trade period with your repetitive posting about how useless he is. I notice you only jump on here with constant negativity. Good for you for feeling vindicated. They guy has left the MFC but you wait for moments like this to gloat. Well done.
