  5. Nichols without doubt the worst umpire in the game... Happy we don't have him tomorrow.

  6. We still owe Collingwood for Dawes,Neeld and H. We gave them their two best backmen. We stole their best recruiter. They are not a destination club . They are mid to lower ladder material with idiotic leadership and a sitting duck coach.

  10. As I've said all year, Richmond aren't as good as their position on the ladder suggested and Sydney aren't as bad.

  11. Just back from an afternoon in the sun at the MCG. So enjoyable to be a neutral supporter and quietly laugh at all the calls of ... "BALL"... coming from Tigers supporters. Swans are good at the key link marks in the one on one contests. Richmond aren't that bad but their forward structure is not quite there. Swans defence is good. The chest pushing between Franklin and Rance was very amusing and the free kick unfathomable. Looking forward to the Tiger supporters "burning" the phone lines.

  12. I prefer to have the teams above us lose and back our boys to win and make the top 4/final 8 than to hope the teams behind us fall over.

  13. What's that noise? is it a cat with a fur ball?? Nah - it's the grotesque but sweet noise of the Tigers choking.

  14. I cant believe people are trying to say Rance could be up there with the greatest fullbacks of all time. What rubbish. Firstly he hardly ever takes the opps best forward, he usually goes 3rd man up and he gets support now. You cant compare him to the likes of Silvagni and Scarlett and others who had to complete with great forwards like ablett, Dunstall, Carey Plugger who did it 1 on 1.

  15. Exactly. There was a time when he was a powerbroker and one to be feared in the AFL. That was a long time ago. Everyone's wise to his antiquated ways of thinking. It's sort of similar with Buckley. I hope they keep running that club. They won't win any flags while they do.

  16. It really is absolutely miraculous, frankly, what the midfield has done without Spencer and Gawn. To the point now that we have a ruckman available and won't play him... Gee we're watching something special with these kids... and Jones et al

  23. Its laughable that several commentators, who should know better nominated Hardwick 'coach of the year' this week. Their wins have been Carl, Coll, WCE (@MCG), Lions, (undermanned & injured Demons), Ess and NM. As I said, laughable.

  24. Only if Port loses to Brisbane. Richmond losing is good for our chances of higher positioning in the top 8 but I'd rather have Sydney ruled out for the year. Not just for us, but because I'm sick of Sydney making finals.

  28. With the Doggies bringing in 5 players it feels like the ideal time for our boys to try out a fast start, and crank up the pressure on them from the get go. Finally ready to move on from Monday, and this game promises to be another cracker! Go Dees.

  29. I like the accompanying omac highlights package from Monday's game. Its almost as if it were put together for this thread and/or to dispel some #Omacmyths. Some nice first half highlights. I also liked the fact the final highlight they play play to its conclusion - Watts' match winner!

  30. My take: The traditional trade period (of 2/3 weeks) would continue. On draft night clubs could trade the picks they went in with. The AFL are also considering that picks can be traded for a player in the draft after the player is selected by a club ala Academy players. The difference being that with Academy players the picks are surrendered whereas with the 'draft pick trading' the picks need to be accepted by the trading club. Each trade needs to be completed before the next club makes its pick. If I've interpreted it correctly this could make for a very long draft night with little time for a club to decide to accept a trade. To me it is just more AFL meddling and trying to dazzle up draft night and add some 'excitement'. In practice if a club wants a player in the draft, then trade for those picks during the draft period - that is what clubs do and what it is for eg Demons traded up to get Oliver and Weideman. I say leave well enough alone! It ain't broken, so don't fix it! Edit: http://www.afl.com.au/news/2017-06-16/live-draft-pick-trading-on-afl-agenda

  34. Surprise surprise lewis wasn't dropped to all those haters from last week (still some of the more ridiculous posts of the year)... and i'd wager he has a cracker this week and will be (as always this year) very important for us as an experienced head in what will be a tough game. im pumped for this one - realise it's a very tough ask off the back of last week vs what will be a determined doggies but it's a great test for us and I see no reason we shouldn't be expecting a cheeky win here as under dogs (no pun intended). Go the d's!

  35. I really have hesitated to contribute to this discussion because of the almost-funny absurdity of apologism for murder and the pustulent criticism of anyone prepared to acknowledge what is as clear, evident and true presented as a dupe of a cosmic conspiracy. That said, I actually try to think about these issues and in the course of discussion with one of my business clients who, as it happens, is involved in the Greens political movement, I mused that it seems to me that the missing link in the defusing of the drive for Islamic attackers is the failure of the Imams to proclaim that this is not in fact the pathway to glory and that such an approach is not representative of Islam. i was sincerely surprised when after being challenged as to whether I had read the Quran (to which question I felt I had to reply honestly (a concept that may elude some contributors to this discussion) that I have read parts but not the whole. "Well, I have. I lived in an Islamic state for thirty years and I can tell you that the reason the preachers don't stand up and say what you are suggesting is that everyone with any knowledge of Islam knows that they would have no credibility whatsoever because when unbelievers' headers are hacked off this is EXACTLY what the Quran tells them to do, right down to details like holding the blade over their heads before striking." i suggested that if he has knowledge of this sort of stuff that he should call 774 and speak to Jon Faine or Raphael Epstein and he snorted and said that they would cut him off like a ripe banana - the suggestion being that there are forces out there attempting to prevent dissemination of information such as this. Now I am fond of conspiracy theories and I can only suppose that this tree-hugging Greenie-voting life-experienced person has been hoodwinked by the CIA into believing that these newspaper reports of people being hacked to death - whether they be Copts or Londoners or Melburnians - are all lies : or in the alternative they killed themselves in order to make an innocent subculture look bad (most likely the latter). But my motive for making a contribution is this : any reading of this thread material demonstrates an inability by some players to engage in nuanced debate about complex matters and the demonstrated shrill denunciation of any person who dares express a different view can turn out to be the harbinger of totalitarianism lest we forget. Let us not be useful idiots Please

  36. He kicked 2 in a row at Etihad once, as a defender. As a forward I'm quietly confident he'll kick 12. In a row.

  39. I have just wasted three hours of my life watching the nonsense that FoxSports masquerades as AFL Sport. The game (NM v Saints) admittedly was sod ordinary, but the commentary around it, particularly when led by Eddie McGuire was simply innane. I know a lot of you will say "well derr", but it is no wonder the western world allows stupidity to creep into our everyday life when we have these lightweights as being our so called community leaders. Oh yes, it did not help either when I happened to come across, when I was trying unsuccessfully to make online broadcasting of AFL games work on my iphone, a relay of an interview McGuire had with Christian Pettracca on 3mmm when it was all about pettracca barracking for Collingwood when he was growing up, and how much mcguire would spent on getting him "to come home" as he put it. When he (McGuire) found out that a few of our players after QB game went to the cinema after the game, Eddie's comment was "I will buy the cinema for you if you come and play with us". What a F-wit honestly. The serious point is though as we get closer to the top our elite will be targeted by losers like McGuire. I guess it was always so....

  40. Only issue is - and be great to get views of someone that was there - that reading between the lines on his match review from last week was that he was alright in the hitouts but stunk it up around the ground and is prob a big part of why they left him out - not sure we really need that at present vs doing what we have been doing absent a ruck this year. Think giving him another week has been a good idea.

  42. I find it hard to believe that we're not better off with Spencer as the chief ruck instead of TMac and TMac as key defender instead of OMac, although I'm less convinced of the latter than I was last week. I think that stands even if WB don't have a ruck either. Struggling with this one, I've got to say. I don't buy that it's because they don't rate him - this setup would have been unfathomable prior to Spencer getting injured. Must be concerns over his form, it's the only answer that makes sense to me. It might be that we see the ruck as being redundant now and won't bother with one unless he's a star (Gawn). Sucks to be Spencer if that's the case, but again I have doubts. I acknowledge that I don't know squat and I trust team Goodwin's judgement.

  43. Its not just the ruck issue. Pedo belongs up frwd without Hogan.

  44. 11 weeks is a lifetime in footy. Spencer went from being a 'list clogger' who would never be played unless Gawn got injured, to good insurance when Gawn eventually got injured, to a disaster and a reason to recruit a third pure ruckman when he got injured himself, to an afterthought when we played fine without a recognised ruckman, and, finally to being a 'list clogger' again because we don't need a 2nd pure ruckman behind Gawn. And breathe...

  45. Not really, he's one week back from injury and his form was scratchy at best last week. He hasn't deserved a call up, if he has a good game this week then he will be looked at for next week. Just because he plays ruck it doesn't make him an automatic call up when Max is out... Having said that, we definitely need to strengthen our ruck stocks next year, whether with Spencer or not.

  46. Hey Guys, Haven't been on for quite sometime but thought it might be a good time to come on and have a chat about Hibby. Hibby was larger than life. Not just in stature, but he had the personality and passion of no other. He loved this club. Hence why we got along so well. There were only two types of clothing Hibby owned. His work uniform, and Dees apparel. Thos who had the pleasure know that he loved a frothy, loved a dart and loved nothing more than chewing the fat over the Dees. I will miss him. He was one guy I always knew I would bump into at the game or on the train home. A top bloke all round. United with his Sister, who he tragically lost a few years ago. Rest In Peace, Matthew 'Hibby' Hibbert

  47. Never a great comparison IMO due to their positional differences. However Natanui averaging under 2 marks a game as a ruckman is pretty damning.

  48. Missed the second half of it. He talked about junior footballer and lead up to the draft. Was hoping to get selected as a rookie by Richmond 3 weeks out from the draft. Then Brisbane showed interest and he thought he'd go pick 30s to them. Then a week out from draft Melbourne showed real interest and he got drafted pick4 and was wrapped. Said he still needs to improve his fitness and the defensive side of his game. That's what coaches have told him going forward. Was a very outside player until he was about 16 and got OP. Couldn't play footy for a year, stacked on 20kgs, came back and had to learn to play inside because he couldn't move much. Worked out for the best as he loves the contest and stoppages. Was talking down his standing in the footy award rating for The Age, Coaches Association etc and is just happy he's been able to get over a poor preseason where he didn't commit with his conditioning and made some poor choices. Didnt head the second part of the interview but jeez we have landed an absolute ripper in Clarry. Credit to Jason Taylor and his team for taking the risk as it's paying off big time.
