Our first rounder for this year is Weideman. You can't look at this draft in isolation.22 points

Hibberd vs another skinny kid from the draft? We're one of the youngest teams in the comp. This is a great result.20 points

At coles spuds are at ~$3.50/kg and Tippett is 104kg. So $364 seems like a fair deal.20 points

i think of it as lewis and hibberd for our second round pick. unbelievable result.11 points
-
How? Hibberd is worth a 2nd rounder, which we used, then upgraded our pick 68 by 11 spots. Think it was a fair deal all round to be honest.11 points
-
Why? Hibberd is a very very good player, and will make a great structural difference to our side, by allowing Hunt and Salem to play wings. He is in his prime at 26. Pick 29 has a 50-50 chance of being a dud. We have so many kids on our list, draft picks aren't what we need right now. Good deal, and welcome Hibbo. My Essendon friend is crying into his coffee as we speak!9 points

I think the rest of the league will look back on SOS' time as a list manager at GWS and Carlton and realise he was an incompetent disaster.8 points

Hibberd is twice the player Melksham is. Ive watched most Essendon games the past 15 years (my old man is an Essendon fanatic). He laughed when they lost Melksham, he wasnt laughing when he found out they were losing Hibberd. Hibberd is actually a gun, he is very very good.8 points

Believe Cam Pedersen re signing was a big factor in Hibberd signing with MFC8 points

I am happy for us to compromise 1 draft year, and go in next year with a full hand. We have enough youngsters at the moment8 points

Hopefully they get these guys involved, especially old mate second from the left.8 points

Let this be the last time we deal with Essendon for a very long time.7 points

Goodbye Lynden Dunn Though I hardly knew you at all You had the grace to play with Neeld While those around you bawled You tried to play up forward But you couldn't hold down a place They sent you down to full back And you grew fuzz on your face And it seems to me you lived your life Like a Bailey/Neeld thing Never knowing who to kick to While oppos closed in And I would have liked to see you Play in a bunch of wins Those coaches killed you long before PJ and Roos came in7 points

He says the Tiger's list and Hardwick is what convinced him to join the Tiges. FMD . Looks like he hasn't made any in-roads in his decision-making skills then Rev!6 points

Lewis and Hibberd are both beautiful kicks of the ball, our skill level just got a really timely boost! as well as composure, experienced leaders.6 points

My Essendon mate texted me as soon as the deal went through and said "he's a f*&cking fighter, you'll love him"6 points

Kelly for mine. Exactly what we are missing - a good outside mid with strong aerobic capacity. Besides Martin is not MFC/MCC material6 points

Originally I thought Hibberd was worth an early 20s pick, so to get him for pick 29 and an upgrade of a later pick is a good result. I know Paul Roos had little to do with it, but Hibberd is a Roos-type player. Fans won't flock to get his number on their back but you can be sure he'll be a very useful role player for us for a number of years. Also it's nice to see Petracca being so pro-Melbourne on his Twitter feed, even on his time off. Within minutes of the trade being completed he's on there welcoming Hibberd to the club. Dare I say it, 'bleeds red and blue' already.6 points

With Lewis coming onboard, I think we'd be foolish to uses a spot for a mature player who's not immediately top 10 at the club.6 points

Add my name here to the surprisingly large list of Dunn respecters. Hated his first 5-7 years at the club, couldn't take an overhead mark to save his life and was a disappointment. Then in the last 3-5 he proved me wrong. Thought he was super on gorilla forwards, as well as wily in defense. Really a much better player than the demons allowed him to be in the end. Sad to see him go, and I think in small ways we'll pay for it. But understand the move at the same time. Well done Dunny.6 points

Dion, if a football team left their window at precisely Round 4, 2015, and traveled backwards a one million miles an hour, how long will it take them to reach the 18th and final stop on the journey? Umm, is it 750,000?5 points

Lewis on Trade Radio said the next two candidates for the captaincy after Hodge are now Isaac Smirh and Liam Shiels (Roughead to focus on his health). The fact they are now the next best candidates says a lot about the significance of Mitchell and Lewis leaving.5 points

No, different person. That bloke chucked the full nana and "quit" the Demons after someone on Demonland upset him. It was definitely one of the most bizarre things I've ever seen on these forums.5 points

Mahorney on Trade Radio: Dunn - In Collingwood's court. We are after the best for Lyndon, not the MFC. Dawes - see what happens this trade period and then make a call Lamumba - playing next year. Rockcliff - Never spoke to him - we have his type and want to give more time to Brayshaw, Salem, Oliver rather than bring in Rocky. Hibbard - held up because of Lewis trade. Need more ruck options (No mention of Max King, just Mitch King) looking at the draft for this.5 points

Martin still a ticking time bomb, Fyfe will demand too much but will be a free agent (will his leg be ok?)... I think Kelly suits us best, connection to Hunt & Salem, good ball user....still a lot of upside.4 points
-
You can't look at it like that. What if pick 30 had a better strike rate? Would you then conclude that you'd prefer to have pick 30 than pick 29?4 points
-
He cost us very little, even if he's not great in his third year he is still an improvement on the likes of Terlich and Matt Jones.4 points

Great result. The deal is fair and, while it leaves us without any early picks, it's good to see other posters realising that our first rounder from this draft is Weideman. Adding Lewis, Hibberd and the return of Melksham makes this a terrific trade period for us. Add in the fact we have signed up all our young players and the future looks bright.4 points
-
effectively we've bought in Lewis, Hibberd, Weideman and some later picks which i think is a great result for a team on the edge of finals4 points

Next move should be: Trade Dunn and 57 for Collingwood's pick 47. Use pick 47 in the draft and then upgrade Wagner and Smith.4 points

In a very long-winded statement, the Old Xaverians Amateur Football Club has announced the appointment of James McDonald as their senior coach in A section for next year. Congratulations Junior. OX's are the most successful and well run club in the VAFA. It's a real honour.4 points

I opened this thread to get angry at people waving goodbye to Dunn before a deal was even finalised, but then I read this. You magnificent bastard.4 points

Yeah but you also predicted Cotchin would be the best midfielder in the game and Naitanui woud be "the best player the game has ever seen", lol, close...4 points

Posters above have "Weed" in our best team. Don't think this is the case just at the moment, however, it's a judgement to revisit after the pre season and NAB cup.4 points
