  1. The way some people here are talking about Hogan's dad and his condition is horrendous.

  2. Think Voss is a little unlucky to fall into the same category. Had them in a semi final in 2009, then stuffed up with a top up in 2010 which saw them go 7 wins 15 losses & then 4 wins 18 losses in 2011. Got them back to 10 wins 12 losses in both 2012 & 2013 and was righting his wrongs when in my opinion was unfairly given the sack. Sliding Doors moment where who knows what would of occured if they stuck with Voss.

  5. Probably the best place to put this... Paul Connors attended the Old Xav's Golf Day on Monday and was the after dinner guest speaker. My Brother attended. He manages 88 players and was happy to have a post-talk 'question and answer' time. At one stage he asked if there were any Melbourne supporters in the room ? It was his initiative and the only club he did it for. It's fair to say he was glowing at the prospects for the club over the next 5 years. He said they were "fantastic" and that supporters were going to have an immense amount of joy. He also said the players love Goodwin, that he'll be a great coach and that Roos was leaving at the "perfect" time. As I said, he brought Melbourne up. He doesn't manage Hogan, but nonetheless offered an opinion. He said "Hogan will stay at the Dees". Obviously it's just his opinion, but he was very confident in his delivery. Obviously it's a relatively small industry and player managers and officials regularly have talks, coffees, etc. He personally barracks for Richmond and said they're stuffed. He said Deledio is on $800K and the club wants to free up cap space so would off load him if they could. This is where the talk has come from. At his age with his recent soft tissue injuries that's easier said than done. He also said he thought O'Meara and Mitchell would get to the Hawks and that Hibberd would nominate Melbourne (he did the next day). No great revelations, but nice to hear...

  6. I'm may be biased having been in Jesse's situation somewhat recently (which is why I've refrained from commenting), but I think the situation calls for compassion, not coercion. This is a marquee player we're talking about who remains central to our future plans. It's big stakes pushing him out the door simply because he wouldn't extend a year before his contract expired. Clearly it isn't ideal having him playing on next year without an extension for reasons of list management and reduced bargaining power, not to mention the outside distraction it causes. However given his importance and the personal circumstance he finds himself in, I think it's not only the right thing to do, the potential reward (him signing on during or at the conclusion of 2017) is one that's worth the risk. Hopefully it gets sorted in the off season. If not, play on.

  7. It's really not that surprising, Voss and Hird had zero time as an assistant coach before taking over and while Bucks at least had a couple of years you look at guys like Goody and Barker who are closer to 10 years under multiple senior coaches and they're considered the younger ones of the guys taking senior roles, if you're unqualified for a role, you're unqualified, doesn't matter what your name is or what you've done in the AFL

  13. You're missing the point. He doesn't *have* to do anything. I am not suggesting we *force* him to sign. Extensions protect the club by allowing them to manage the cap and list for a longer period of time: by tying him up they can rest assured he will be part of the future over the next 4-5. With one year left, it actually puts off that management by 12 months until he signs an extension. This is the reason why sporting clubs the world over offer players extensions: so they can get a head start on list management. If he doesn't sign an extension, the club is forced into planning two potentially different scenarios: life with him, and life without him. That's not easy. Who will they get for him? What is the draft like? What will their cap be like? Can they risk dumping players now, or should they keep deadweight? After all we have been through for the past 10 years and 50 years more broadly, I desperately want the club to be on the front foot here. I just can't understand why if he is keen to stay he wouldn't sign an extension at some point this offseason. Letting it drag on and waiting for him to make a decision next year puts the club's list management direction almost entirely into the hands of Hogan. If he can't make up his mind, he needs to be traded. He doesn't *have* to sign an extension. That's precisely the point. And that's why we need to consider trading him. Like I said: if he is keen to stay, there is no reason to reject an extension. Rarely does a player of his caliber say no to an extension and then end up staying at that club. It almost always means they want to leave.

  14. Hate the Bombers to the point where I'd be happy to see Brisbane receive pick one.

  15. I'm not sure he's much of a leader and that is the ONLY reason why a side in our position would recruit a guy over 30 years of age imo

  17. Buckley's desperate. He's going to keep chasing any sort of fish he can in the hopes that they will turn his team around before Ed get's overruled and he's sacked. I never would have believed he could do such a poor job with such a professional outfit.

  18. Not sure about that. The Wiz always regretted leaving us and has said it often. He said the best thing he did, was to get away to Melbourne.

  19. People are making out that this is a recent thing. It's not. We've had contract offers in front of him for over a year and he's refused to consider them. SEVEN MONTHS AGO he told the club he would not consider their offer until after this season. He's had seven months to think about whether he wants to keep playing for Melbourne. It's not unreasonable to want an answer.

  21. 5aa sports show had Caro on this arvo and as they were signing off the chat Stephen Rowe said "Caro, your mission this week is to dig around Nat Fyfe" To which she replied "Hearing strong talk of him maybe moving to Victoria... In exchange for Hogan... It's seriously gaining momentum" I can only report what I hear so there you go

  22. The only other place I've read about this is Bigfooty, who's posters are embarrassingly quoting Demonland as the source. A poster posting simply "weeks not months" alluding to the time his father has left is disgustingly poor form. ET out.

  24. Of course he will - his underwater helicopter emergency rescue situation skills are elite. Brisbane's pitch was hilarious, with Schwab basically saying "we're so bad you'll probably get a game with us".

  25. Michael Hibberd - MFC MFC future second round - FRE Michael Barlow - EFC this seems pretty fair all round and a good way to hang on to our second rounder this year and maybe try and do another deal or get a decent draft selection in

  26. The whole thing stinks. Not because Brisbane don't need a priority pick or that we did, but because the whole way the AFL administration goes about it's business is just crap. Every issue, always caught on the hop, always improvising, always trying to find the work-around of their own rules. Wouldn't it be amazing to see an AFL decision made based on a consistent set of transparent rules that everyone knew in advance, could plan for, and had previously accepted as a fair balance? Pipe dreams, eh?

  30. Or it was a flimsy excuse to get himself out of the regime without pissing everyone off. Or he said no and made up the needles thing when it all came out, to cover for his mates. Like I said before, the players' lack of disclosure on their ASADA testing forms indicates that they were complicit. They knew, they hid it. Otherwise it's a bloody big coincidence that 34 players 'forgot' they were taking 'thymo' when filling out their forms. From there, I infer that Zaharakis knew, didn't get involved, and made some [censored] up about needles so he didn't have to take a moral high ground stance or rat out his friends. Sounds pretty clever to me. But really, who knows, right? The truth is buried at the bottom of a shredder.

  31. People on this forum continually berate this suggestion. We have a very deep, talented draft this year, and two teams willing to deal very valuable picks and players. It is the end of the year. He either signs an extension or we trade him. There is absolutely no reason for him not to sign an extension or agree to eventually sign an extension if his intentions are to stay.

  32. Simon Goodwin at his press conference last week 13 mins in. http://www.melbournefc.com.au/video/2016-09-14/media-conference-goodwin-announcement "Jesse's management and the Club said they would look at it at the end of the year. We're now at the end of the year." It is clear the new Senior Coach does not want this to drag on to next year, nor does a single Melbourne supporter I would suggest. So Jesse has to sign up very soon, or he risks Melbourne being proactive, accepting that he does not want to play with Melbourne long-term, and trading him, hopefully for Nat Fyfe.

  33. They've lost/given up most of their premiership side in the last 6 years, i find that amazing, how many premiership sides have had that many players leave the team within 6 years? Bucks has done an awful job, the succession plan has gone as badly as it could have and the Pies are delusional to think any different, fortunately they have some alright younger players to start a re-build around when Bucks gets the chop mid year.

  34. People are too focused on his age. If age was a factor then he should have been retired six years ago like every other player. Look at his football- he was playing very, very well this year.

  38. The beauty of recruiting someone like Hibberd is the knock on effect - you can take the short, simplistic view that we've just gained another 'half back flanker'. We know that Hibberd is a very good half back flanker, for a start, and it gives us more options. With his recruitment, it can allow other guys like Hunt and Salem to play further up the field and use their weapons (kicking and speed respectively) where it can be more damaging than before. Hibberd is terrific one on one, is a very good kick and is cool under pressure. Not to mention he brings further experience to our backline, something we are still short of. But feel free to be underwhelmed. Some supporters are never happy.

  40. It also stops a young player from getting games and developing into a player capable of winning matches. If Harvey was on our list this year, he could have prevented Jayden Hunt from getting games. Would we then be looking at the prospect a delisting a kid who hadn't been able to crack the senior side & show anything at AFL level?
