  1. I just love the fact that he looks like he would be the type of player who runs around packs looking for the cheap handball, when in fact he is as hard as anyone in the team. His tackles are great, he runs into packs with no fear, and he loves to go in hard. For someone who weighs 3kgs, and looks like a Disney princess, this kid is just a machine. Obsessed isn't the right word for how I feel about this guy.

  4. The situation is not too different from '87. We are a young team on the rise in the last half, hoping for wins we can and can't control ,to give us the last available finals spot on %. There is a core of talent in this team that look more gifted than '87. We had Newport,Lyon,Rigoni,Lovett ,Lovell,Flower,Stynes,O'Dwyer ,Hughes ,Viney,Stretch ,Johnson and Yeats who were all solid but Lyon seemed like the only real star(and Robbie) who was bandaged up like a rag doll.Stinga was injured from memory. And in both years, assuming we do the Blues and North do the right thing,it will come down to a game at the Cattery. Geelong will not want to rest too many against us as the top teams have done previously before finals.Even if they do -bring it on. I'm not going to make predictions but the list available and fit this time in ,is superior to what took us to a within a kick of a GF appearance in '87 and I think most of the over 40's will agree. If we do get to a Prelim, say against Hawthorn, and Sam Mitchell runs in to the protected zone, giving away 50m to give Max a shot from 40 in front, kicks it and kisses the 11 and we do go to the GF I will be quite happy. But I'm not getting ahead of myself.

  5. I know I'm only new here but some of you people properly need psychological help. We beat port in Adelaide by 40 points. And you still find s**t to complain about? Just enjoy it!? I'd let it annoy me but I know there's nothing I can do to fix those people. They'd probably complain about having to drink warm water if they were stuck in the desert. But seriously... how about us!!?? Ive suffered through supporting this team for much of my life because I knew how much sweeter it would make it when we started winning. It's like doing fifty star jumps in a ski jacket on a 45 degree day just to make jumping in the ocean feel even better. And jeeeeeez does that water feel nice.

  6. Loved this comment by Dermie, if the Dees scrape into the finals, there will be 7 other teams not wanting to play them. We are a respected club again and I feel proud once again to be a Dees fan.

  7. It's great that Oscar has started playing well, thanks to all the advice from Demonland to how hw should go about it. A bit like Jack Watts really.

  11. What a gem this kid is. Behind Gawn as one of the reasons we've taken such a big step forward. No [censored] around in the backline with this kid. Lumumba's woes are a blessing in disguise. Can't believe Pedo didn't finish that goal that Hunt created.

  12. I support the idea of Weideman coming back for the Carlton game but I think it unfair to suggest Pedo didn't contribute to last night's win. He was hard at the contest and had more possessions than either Hogan or Vanders.

  15. 1. its now round 22 and we can still make finals. 2. No one is talking "re-build" or looking towards the trade/draft week. 3. Ask any of our players...I bet they don't want the season to end, they look like they want to play another 22 rounds. How good is this?!

  16. Brayshaw is back. Really liked his game. Beautiful goal on the left. Oliver will be the complete package. Really showing that he's not just a handball freak, he has skill and vision by foot. That Watts goal was much needed, and the only bloke on the whole field that could and did kick it. Even in a quiet game, cool as ice. Max 5 contested marks. Port 3. 2nd week in a row he's out-contested-marked a team. Jetta was brilliant. But he always is. Hunt should get a rising star this week. A 40 point ugly win in Adelaide shows just how far we've come and just how scary we might be.

  20. Also, it must be said: We have had an unbelievvvvvvvable run without injury. We just keep getting through games completely unscathed. I don't remember a year like it.

  21. I think Stretch is going to be a very good outside mid for us. He always makes the right decision, has pace and good disposal. Jones was in there all night, just some of his disposal was off. Hogan IMO was our worst player. His miss from about 20 was critical at the time and he seems devoid of confidence. His few possessions up the ground, took so long to give off, our forward line was flooded. This is a bad part of his game, he needs to work on. Wasn't limping and seemed fit enough. Has hardly kicked a goal in his last few games. Hopefully has a cracker against the Blues. Viney had a hard tag and was the subject of several assaults, without even a free kick.

  28. After what I saw live at the ground last night, I'd almost be tempted to drop Hogan... He hurt us more than Pedo did IMHO I'm sure Hogan is not 100% fit but unless he has heart disease it should not effect his effort Shoot me down people, but this site is based on opinions and that's what makes it great!

  29. Some here really overreact about our young players, and put errors under the microscope. When Oscar started, he could do nothing right. "SACK HIM!" "BACK TO CASEY!" "HE'S NOT READY!". Now one our better defenders. Harmes had a solid game. Worked hard, won some nice ball, made some mistakes. It happens.

  30. http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-match-report/port-adelaide-v-melbourne-demons-keep-slim-finals-hopes-alive-with-win-over-power-20160813-gqrxv7.html How long have we waited to hear/see these words about our club: "After stunning Hawthorn the previous week, they were under pressure to at long last show some consistency, and to win again in a hostile environment proves they really deserve respect" R E S P E C T Can't be bought, must be earnt. And we are; more to do but no turning back now! We are on the verge of ending opposition supporter's pity...to be replaced by their envy!!

  34. The comedown from last week finally hit in the third, and it bloody hurt. However, we won by 40 points, basically in third gear, where several of our best players were well off the pace. A lot of great signs, in the first half we picked it up where we left off. Not as thrilling as last week, but I'm content with it.

  37. I remember back in the day, after yet another Melbourne thrashing, going across to our opponent's Board (Hawthorn, Swans, North ... whoever) and see everyone complaining about how badly they'd played, and dreaming of the day when we could [censored] about how badly we played, but still come away with a win. Especially, remembering that this was Port at home, and they had as much to play for as us (finals etc.). Wonder if Ollie Wines had a teensy twinge of regret? Not sure of the way forward for Port. Demons on the other hand ... and we've still got Salem, Weiderman etc. etc. waiting in the wings.

  39. We've reached the "par" mark of 10 wins, now let's see if we can better it. There's no gimmes in footy but we will start favourites next week against the Blues - then with any luck we'll be playing for a spot in September down at Geelong. Whether we make it or not I think the doubters have been proved wrong over the last fortnight. Dare to dream.

  42. The backline won the game for me, in that first half they totally shut Port down and individually they all played very well.

  43. Our young midfield who should be about fragged by this stage, seem to be just getting going. Brayshaw, Oliver and Stretch are now a genuinely capable second string to Viney, Jones and Tyson. Lots of credit to the box for the resting policy, you'd think. Our young players are coming home with a rush.

  44. A good win. I was a nervous wreck, but really the result was beyond doubt in the first quarter. We came out, we dominated, we held strong when they were coming back at us, and we persevered despite absolutely rubbish goal kicking. Best part about this win is that we did it with a lot of players down on usual output. Viney, Jones, Stretch, Hogan, Vanders and Pedo all down on output. That we managed to get it together and smash them in the clearances and inside 50s in the last, is a real credit to our work rate. I also thought this was our best defensive performance for the year. The backline killed it. Oscar was excellent, so was Frost. Tom back to his brilliant self, and Jetta just being Jetta. If Hunty doesn't get the rising star nomination this week, I'm burning AFL house down! Btw, if anyone follows Tom McDonald on Instagram, have a look at the story he just posted- Bernie and I'm not sure who else, topless on a table, drinks being poured on them, singing Sweet Caroline surrounded by other players. Not sure what that's all about, but definite BOG performance by Vince.

  46. That, in spite of all the panicky comments in the game day thread, was a very good win. Three in row -- we don't do that. Away win -- we don't do that either. Against Port -- we don't beat them except in the NAB cup. Blew them away with one big burst -- we don't do that either. They hit us with the kitchen sink in the 3rd -- never got closer than 4 goals. Didn't panic. Held it together under fierce pressure. Our best 4 players hardly in it and other players down too. And we won. Only a good side would do that.
