  3. Tim Gossage just said on SEN that there is absolutely no chance Hogan will be returning to WA. Hopefully his on the money.

  4. Jeez, people are quick to turn on Garlett. He has been sensational for the vast majority of his time at Melbourne, and is the best small forward we've had in years. The form slump won't last and I'm confident he'll turn it on this week.

  5. Frost on Cox sounds painful but not unexpected at this time of year.

  6. Why do people take figures quoted in the media as gospel?

  7. For sure: none of them. Possibly: any of them. We're not in 2013 any more man.

  8. But when combined with Hunt, Wagner and a brother that is making a lot of ordinary decisions and has generally poor disposal we have a very inexperienced defence that is leaking goals. Jetta and Hunt have a manic attack on the ball or player with the ball but Wagner is sloppy, Oscar is outbodied too easily (and has little urgency) and TMac has fundamental flaws in his game. Collectively this is a problem. OMac cant be learning his craft in the seniors with all of the newbies around him. It makes us too vulnerable. Jetta is our most reliable defender by a mile but we don't have a big bodied defender that's reliable. Hence we get cleaned up by Reiwoldt, Cloke, Membery, Lobbe etc etc

  9. Piece of [censored] of a human being. I hope they circle this spuds name when we neet them next. I want a line in sand moment against the these [censored] cheats. Stick of being bullied by them year after year!

  10. Dawes is privately educated and from a decent family. It's not that he can't ruck. It's that he doesn't want to. It's too passe.

  11. Probably not fair to lump them all in the same basket mate! Would be like a sandgroper saying they don't trust Victorian journos because of Barrett. As I said above, Gossage has been consistent in his view that Hogan will stay. According to my good mate in Perth, he is a far more respected journo than the likes of Scott Cummings, Langdon and Hardie who are borderline comedy figures. In the SEN interview he was absolutely unequivocal that Hogan will stay.

  13. This is what I hate about the AFL. On one hand they want to be the moral arbiter of everything, but on the other hand they are allowing clubs to profit off of the misfortune of others. But not just others - the misfortune of battling families. Gambling wrecks families, and it wrecks lives. The AFL are perfectly fine with the clubs under their banner to profit off of the hardship of the less fortunate. Anger shouldn't just be directed at the clubs, but at the AFL as a whole.

  16. I am I the only one who feels an actual, physical stabbing pain in my brain when reading such irrational pessimism? Maybe I've just been around this site for far too long, but after years and years of reading it, it does my head in. As if we're only going to win 2 more games for the year.

  17. it wasn't even a contest - nobody else was anywhere near him. He flat out misjudged it, which fits with his horrid, horrid play the rest of the day.

  18. Just taking a look at the VFL ladder, and apart from Casey being a game clear on top, I notice that 6 of Casey's 8 games played have been against teams in the top 8. Footscray (currently 7th) is the only top 8 team we're yet to play. Certainly bodes well for the Scorps for the remainder of the season. Top 4 spot is their's to loose you'd think.

  19. Agreed. Ive watched the first 3 quarters of the replay a few times and I can't get over how good Bernie Vince was in stepping up. Not only by getting involved in everything all over the ground, winning the ball, kicking on but also general hardness. Also, when Mitchell grabbed his own neck grimacing - as though he'd been hit high, Bernie started shoving into him again! Calling him out. I hope they bring this kind of agressive, tough, contested MFC brand of footy next time we meet them - AND that they get stuck into Ceglar, big time. Dogs.

  20. 1) I think we could win any of them. 2) I don't expect a prolonged fadeout. I expect continued yo-yoing inconsistency as we have already seen so far this year.

  21. I agree. Not only did North opt out, but they have never tanked. The AFL system encouraged tanking, but North never did that either. I actually thought they should have (years ago), but they didn't, and now they are being rewarded. Sure, free agency has helped them, but I think it was more about setting a precedent. Cannot help but respect North. Even though I hate them because they always belt us, I respect them more than any other team. This pokies debacle is another thing North are on the right side of. Good on them. Shame on the AFL.

  22. I dont reckon either of Hulett or Weideman will play this year, with Hogan cemented and Dawes back. But I expect huge development during the next pre season and love the potential whuch both of them demonstrate. I also want to add another name into this list of emerging key position playing potential. Sean Smith's son Joel was taken as a left-field rookie but Plapp had already given a great rap on his quick development over 2016. I'm not sure where he sits in the Casey mix at present. I did live 15 minutes away from Casey Fields for the past 7 years but moved away, and witnessed a lot of poor games from Melbourne mlisted players. Would love to be watching the Casey games now.

  23. Tom's a pretty big guy and is obviously as fit as anyone on the list, but his core strength seems to be poor. I've seen him lose position, get pushed out of the way and fall over in the contest, too many times for it to be just bad luck and its not always by gorilla forwards, he gets out bodied by much smaller players If Tom wants the big bucks he needs to play like a big defender not some medium back who gets caught out against the bigger forwards.

  27. Well then he needs to learn to use it on Gameday because i am yet to see it. My biggest frustration with Vandenberg is that we recruited on the back off averaging 33 disposals in the NEAFL yet we continue to play him as a full time forward.. With Viney out we need his grunt and physicality in the midfield right now. Collingwood would be perfect to really rough up Pendlebury and treloar.

  29. Why is that 1 week? A hit behind the play surely deserves more than that!

  31. Compare Ceglar's low act with Tom Hawkins' tap on Phil Davis handed a one-game suspension from the Match Review Panel Both Ceglar and Hawkins earned the same penalty. What a joke!

  32. Deliberate. High. Behind play, Medium force- bowled him off his feet and took a while to get up. We should appeal!! Jesting but surely Ceglar should get more than 1 week.

  33. The 'general' will be H. He seems to be our forgotten defender with posters. He will be back as soon as he recovers and gets some match fitness at Casey. H may not be the most favoured on DL but is well suited to the 'general' role.

  36. Garlett was the steal of the century. Has been sensational and will continue the premiership journey as the team improves. Ffs, he's had a bad couple of weeks. Very much an integral part of the future. Worrying about some journos, picking out a minutiae of a millisecond in a footy match? Really?

  37. He isn't the sort of player that needs to be dropped for mine. Jeff just has off and on games, he is that type of player. Always has been and I assume always will be. Still an automatic selection because he is our only pure crumber and small forward. He will come good again in the 1's, no point having him play for Casey when he comes good. Strength of opponent isn't the issue, it's all internal with him. We lose out by not playing him, and gain very little IMO. As for the incident, looked like he either misjudged or was in two minds.

  38. I would change Port to a 50/50 game as well but otherwise i think you've nailed it.

  39. Collingwood are in a world of pain again and i expect us to keep that going with a 10 goal win and Jeremy Howe looking like a tool.

  40. Think this is all pretty tough on Jeffy. Sure his form has been average for a few weeks, but if you were at the game two things were clear: 1) This "incident" was simply a poor kick/poor judgment from Jeff. Was not a "squib" or a "shirk", the ball and the player were just nowhere near each other. 2) Jeffy tried hard all day, it just didn't bounce his way. He kept running and trying, gave second efforts, which is more than can be said for Hogan on Saturday.

  43. He mentioned in a post match interview with burgs that he played wing but saw himself moving into the mid as an inside mid. I see him as our sam mitchell. Tough inside mid, good by hand, good vision and a good organiser

  44. Maybe because he is one of my favourites, but at the time I thought he just misjudged the floating kick more than anything. But as was mentioned above, regardless of this incident, he had no impact whatsoever, and hasn't for a few games in a row now. Needs a big one on Monday.

  45. Aside from the Port game, he's been really consistent. One of my favourites and well on the way to becoming an A grader. Just needs to string some games together without injury.

  46. Yep. And Hogan was completely unprepared for it. Dropped him and ran off. Very low act and one i's suggest the dees won't let go. I hope Viney plays next time.

  47. Ben Ken for Harmes would work better IMO. To me, Vanders is classier and has more footy IQ than Harmes at the minute. He might have been quiet on the weekend, but I always feel as though Vanders can have an impact at any given moment. Deserves at least another week.

  48. 2 goals from 15 disposals. Dunn played back and frost forward. Not sure why all the doom and gloom here. Collingwood had 53 inside 50 entries and kicked 7 goals at the weekend. Hawthorn had 58 and kicked 11. We defended much better as a team in our back half at the weekend, and if it wasn't for some very lazy forward half pressure and an inability to keep the ball in our forward half, we probably go closer to winning the game. Port showed last week that when we let teams walk out of our forward 50 unopposed we are easy to score against. Our problem, as it has been for a few weeks, is our inability to trap the ball high in our forward half for longer periods of the game. If we let sidebottom, pendlebury and trealor get the ball in hand with space in the centre square, it won't matter if it's frost, McDonald's or whoever defending. The biggest kpi's this year on our wins have been tackles and pressure acts inside our forward half, and our ability to keep the ball forward for longer periods of time. It's just crazy to think that defenders can consistently get blamed here, even with their individual failings, when our half forward line and midfielders don't put enough pressure on, don't stick their tackles and don't close down space well enough to allow the opposition to just wake it out of our forward half. Anyone who has even a remote idea of playing football knows that if the midfielder has open space in front of him, the majority of the time he will hit a eating forward and there is little a defender can do. Get the ball in your front half, then put enough frontal and midfield pressure on to keep it there and inevitably you win more games of footy than you lose.

  49. Hes going to be a fine player. He will be better than Tom I reckon, for starters he can kick and has shown already he can make good decisions with the footy. Not his fault hes been thrown to the wolves, and I reckon hes handled it well. The hysteria on here is ludicrous.
