  1. Demetriou company Acquire Learning accused of unconscionable conduct. An interesting article: "Former AFL chief Andrew Demetriou's vocational education company Acquire Learning has been charged with unconscionable conduct and false or misleading behaviour after it sold tens of thousands of government-funded courses to vulnerable job-seekers...The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has alleged in action before the Federal Court that the company bought the details of unsuccessful job applicants on websites such as CareerOne, then cold-called them to sell expensive diploma courses." That reads as AD owning the company but the article says he is Executive Director. It could be both. Nonetheless, the 'unconscionable conduct and false or misleading behaviour' happened on his watch so has responsibility and accountability. (BTW, why is a company listed on the stock exchange in Career One doing 'selling the details of unsuccessful applicants' to anyone. I thought privacy laws made that illegal in this country). It must be very strange for AD for the shoe to be on the other foot, so to speak and he being with the party that has behaved badly and is off to the Federal Court. I always had a bit of time for AD but a lot of people are going to have a field day over this. The more I think about it the more appalling this situation is. A company taking advantage of vulnerable people to exploit them and profit from their vulnerability. Doesn't get much worse than that really.

  8. QUOTE Le Grand has a gut feel that CAS will find the players not guilty. “I’ve always felt it’s going to be very difficult for any tribunal to be satisfied that a banned substance was given to the players, mainly because there’s such an appalling lack of documentation and reliable evidence of what happened at Essendon in 2012, he said” “In some ways the ineptitude and the incompetence of Stephen Dank, Dean Robinson and others were up to at Essendon has become an alibi in the sense that it’s very difficult. END QUOTE So Chip found it appalling? Chip has been so appalled, he has not spared Essendon in order to hold them to account for their appalling lack of documentation. He has lashed them at every opport-- ... oh hang on. Turns out he thinks that Essendon are victims! Of the ineptitude and incompetence of Dank and others! In fact Chip has not spared any opportunity to spin this in Essendon's favour.

  9. Vandenberg hits the play, player and ball with aggro and an intention to have an impact. Improving his fitness will increase his capacity to do this, hit more contests and make better decisions. Increasing his experience at this level (AFL) will improve his damage and ability to hurt the opposition. Big fan.

  10. OK, so he's used some extreme language. But to me its undeniable that Le Grand and many of his colleagues have sought to protect the EFC and some of its players rather than do their proper job to protect the integrity of our sport, not to mention the well-being of the players. I went into this saga with no hatred of Hird, quite the contrary, and no knowledge of the existence of any of the other people involved or the EFC (beyond the usual opposing supporter's bias which I see as a joke). Their behaviour has moved me in to wish them ill, not my prejudice. If this whole thing ends up in "can't prove anything because the records don't exist", then while it may (arguably) be a victory for "rules of law, rules of procedural fairness and natural justice" it will be a disaster for just about everything else.

  11. I think it's pretty obvious Howe was pushed. He was told his contract and game time would be limited. The only reason he was played when he shouldn't have been last season was to ensure we didn't tarnish his trade value. People can argue all they like about that, but Roos did it with Frawley as well.

  13. I'm amazed by that narrowness of that line of argument; “In some ways the ineptitude and the incompetence of Stephen Dank, Dean Robinson and others were up to at Essendon has become an alibi in the sense that it’s very difficult. It would create THE blueprint for mass-scale drug cheating going forward.

  15. Why are discussing Magner? vandenBerg is is a cut above him in so many more areas but particularly footy smarts. I'm really looking forward to Vanders second season as well.

  16. Getting a little bit excited for next year... His old coach at Ainslie went down to Melbourne and watched training and said that he saw Vanders dominate the way he dominated at Ainslie. Now, that might not be the nicest thing to say about the other players but it makes me think he will avoid the second year blues if healthy. In the guts and leave him there.

  18. The money some sods make ripping off the government and unemployed by getting them further 'education' is astounding and the system is as corrupt as just about any in the country

  19. There is not much new about this. Unfortunately an industry has grown around the educated being employed to exploit the jobless uneducated. Half the agencies promising jobs are in fact frauds. Therese Rein made a killing off it. Many of them claim to be non- profit but are solely profit,no performance. The training of skills in this country is laughable and so are the agencies apparently linking the labour to the industries. They are basically parasitical life forces feeding of the promise of a job that never existed before the person signed on for the course and the job is unlikely to exist when they have driven the jobless person further into debt. Unfortunately, there are many kids out there looking for meaningless-soft office jobs.

  21. A pic of it is in various posts above. The quote is; "The Essendon supplements investigation became a wrecking ball. Chip's access to key players on both side makes this a must read for anyone interested in the truth." As I said, how does Tim know what the actual truth is. His only info would be coming from within the club, the 'parents nights' and his son. One I think he should trust, Jobe seems an honest and forthright person with integrity, the others I have some serious questions about.

  22. If there is any clash then I am quite happy for the home team to wear all white and we will just wear Red and Blue on account of the fact that we invented the f**king game itself and started the competition in it's entirety .

  23. I know we all get carried away at times but I think we're actually seeing a decent team getting cobbled together and it's very much about players like Vanders. He's a footy player...not something else with athleticism who also can play footy....NO, he's a fair dinkum realfooty player and what a difference this is making. Gus is a footy player. Salem one also. Petracca is a gifted all rounder really but he moves and plays...footy.. How much easier to develop a plan/gamestyle when your players can intuitively play the game. Hogan and Jeffy are just naturals. There are others but Vanders is quite interesting. Very much looking forward to seeing a fitter and better prepared version taking the.field. I feel confident when he has the ball. He can play.

  24. What I never understood was where we played him - he was a one position player - that is at the bottom of the pack in the centre square. He was always an inside mid feeding the ball out - nothing more. He had a few early games when he did quite well as an inside mid and then we tried to turn him into a defensive forward ? WTF ?

  29. Finally I am a contributor to the Demonland. Long time reader first time poster. I think we need to talk about the Dons announcement at their AGM of their intent to change there clash strip. And the apparent loosening of AFL's laws on the clash strip. Especially since we have our white one and the Bummers are looking to not have the grey or white... but an all red and black clash strip. http://www.essendonfc.com.au/news/2015-12-15/dons-to-change-clash-strip Discuss

  32. Methinks you are overthinking this. I think Roos gives you the chance to play football his way - if you don't and he doesn't see the value in you, you are gone. I think Roos played him because he was ok and there was no one knocking the door down for his spot.

  33. My issue so much that it was Tim in the quote, it was that it was Tim and his quote is saying read this if you want the truth. They don't go together as Tim doesn't know the truth. If the quote was more along the lines of 'this is an in depth study in the search for the truth then I have far less issue. The way it looks is that he is after EFC supporters to read it and take it as truth because their legend Tim said it is the truth. It raises questions to me for two reasons; 1- If Tim thinks it is the truth then is it really as the 'truth' Tim knows has been managed by the club from day one. 2- It seems a call to EFC supporters to read this, it is true, see your legend Tim said its the truth. Could well be innocent and it could be a well balanced book, I haven't read it as I don't take chip all that seriously due to the few other things I have read of his, but this quote isn't a good look.

  34. I agree completely i heard Watson Snr say a lot in the early days of this whole thing. Never sounded convincing to me What has ALWAYS astounded me is that the parents of all the 34 players have remained almost silent. Were they paid to "Shut it" & how much?

  35. And how is Tim qualified to determine what is the truth? He has massive conflicts of interest in the entire affair and if the book is being sold as being 'the truth' then that quote should not be there. Tim would merely be a player in the many quotes in the book, if he is even that!

  38. Upgrade install. My wife's laptop wouldn't update to Win 10 using the update channel because the updater wouldn't update itself beforehand. The install off the USB stick solved all the problems. I've lent the USB stick to two other people as well, and they've had no problems either. The download tool is at https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/software-download/windows10. You can use it on multiple computers and keep the USB in case you have to re-install later.

  39. Correct me if i'm wrong but haven't your 'sources' indicated the book will be thrown at them, that WADA will go after Hird and other high ups and that the players will get long sentences (two years IIRC)? You seem to be softening your predictions. To avoid post announcement spin perhaps you can provide succinct answers to the following questions , based of course on your intel from sources. Note that i am assuming they will be found guilty. How long will the penalties be for the players? How many games will the players actually miss after backdating and other considerations are taken into account? Will WADA go after Hird, the board etc as you have previously forecast? If your answer is to number 3 yes (and i'd be surprised if it wasn't) will they announce their intention to do so when handing down the findings on players (which would seem the logical time)? For balance my answers to these questions are as follows: 18 months 10 (available to play from round 11) No Thye will be asked their intentions, suggest they will look into it and drop it thereafter

  43. No lessons learnt. No recognition of past wrongs. No accountability for a coach that has caused so much damage to the game, the club and individuals. No moral compass. No new beginning for a once great club. As you say Comrade, the mind boggles. Presumably an attempt to get the Hird faction back on board. However, you can't heal the rifts without accepting the wrongs done to the game, to the club and to so many individuals. It's like welcoming Gordon Gecko back to Wall Street. Except this is real.

  44. His hounding off this site by the selfish minority is a loss to all of us. We all have difference interests and focuses when it comes to training reports and Saty provide a unique perspective. It personally doesn't interest me what drills the players are doing but I don't berate posters for posting that information. He was a pain in the bum at times but there isn't a poster on this site who isn't now and again. A sad loss. I hope I can catch up with him on Friday and find out what's happening. I'll be sure to keep it to myself to avoid upsetting some.
