Strolled down to training this morning. Arrived about 10.15 as Gus Brayshaw was leaving to return to AAMI. Not sure why he's not joining in the sessions yet. Seems more solid in the shoulders and arms. Absentees from when I got there were Lumumba, Dawes, TMac, Trenners, Tyson, Frost, Milkshake and I think Dunny. Non contact but lots of running were Nate Jones, Vince and Spencil. Hogan joined in all the contact drills after a bit of lap running. Jones, Vince and Spence were doing half lap sprints that were timed, the objective being to not let the pace drop off the more they did. Chunk was just phenomenal, fast pace and must have completed about 25-30 of these each timed within about 22 sec. Got plenty of encouragement from the others. Spencil is one huge unit. He may kill an opposition player one day. The others did tackling drills, short kick in heavy traffic drills, hand ball in heavy traffic drills, half ground and then whole ground forwards/defenders drills (advance the ball to enable a kick at goal). Other 'Landers who may have attended with knowledge in how these work may be able to describe it more strategically than I. Highlights for me were Harmes running down a lairising Dean Kent, and Nev Jetta tackling a forward, getting legged by that forward as he attacked the loose ball, then tackling a second forward who ran in to scoop up the ball. Diaspointments were some poor short kicking that forced the target to stop or missed altogether. After these there were repeat 3/4 lap sprints (or might have been length timed sprints, ie. sprint for 60 secs) in staggered groups of about 5-6. The better being, Hogan (excellent tank developing), OMac, Petracca, Grimes, Viney and a few others who I can't recall at the moment. Petracca did a fair bit of contact work, no strapping on knee, full speed and movement. Very upbeat personality on the track. Set shot kicking on goal from 45m on 45deg angle followed, with some doing low passes to the goal square running through the centre circle. Better kicks were Kent, Petracca, Salem, Watts and Pedo. The poorer set shots were by Jayden Hunt, Matt Jones (missed all shots, some OOF or didn't make the distance). Jade Rawlings stood the mark on the side where I was and made wise cracks to put the players off their kicks. Very funny guy. Got stuck into Petracca for his basketball slam dunk prowess, and Dean Kent for his apparent addiction to messaging on his mobile. The young draftees did lap running, timed sprints, kicking and handball drills and boxing. Mostly aside from the main groups. Enthusiastic bunch. Someone came off having landed awkwardly on an ankle, might have been young Joel Smith. Not sure. Didnt see Roos or Goodwin. They might have been on the Punt Rd side for all of the 2 hrs I was there, but I couldn't see them. Rawlings took the drills mostly, Misso the running. McCartney there as well I believe. On the sidelines were TViney, Mahoney, Byrnes, some of the other assistants and Jason Taylor. No photos sorry. I think 666 was there, he might link to some. Any questions, ask.8 points

Like all VFL clubs, the Casey Scorpions are on a recruiting drive although obviously it will not be as intensive as some of the stand-alone clubs because the Scorps will benefit from the influx of the young talent drafted in by the Demons. The Scorpions have lost veteran skipper Evan Panozza (Southport), vice-captain Mitch Gent (Noble Park) and Nathan Page (Tooradin) but have re-signed Jack Hutchins and Tim Smith. The new signings to date have not been high profile but there are certainly some interesting names:- Yarran Jaffer-Williams from Wodonga Raiders is mentioned in this thread where new poster "outsider" has an excellent post about the 20 year old midfielder: "Yarran Jaffer-Williams is a young indigenous prospect looking to spark his AFL aspirations back to life. He was a member of the QBE Sydney Swans academy and also represented the NSW/ACT Rams state side. He played primarily for the Sydney Swans Reserves and Sydney University. Jaffer-Williams was a highly regarded Swans academy prospect under the tutelage of now Demons mentor Paul Roos ...” The club has signed two 18 year old Dandenong Stingrays TAC Cup graduates Mitchell Cox and small defender, Lachlan Batten - Batten shaken but not stirred. Another TAC Cup graduate to sign is 181cm Eastern Ranges midfielder Aaron Cotte who was among his side's best in the grand final loss to the Oakleigh Chargers. He was also runner-up in the team's 2014 Best & Fairest to Luke Hannon who is also at Casey in a team which included Christian Petracca and Sam Weideman. Midfielder Aloysio Ferreira from Gippsland Power has also signed with the club. Other signings include:- Frank Anderson (Whitefriars); Tom Baker (Rosebud) who booted 60 goals from 17 matches and featured in a flag this year; Liam Beacom (Upwey Tecoma and ex-Eastern Ranges); Dylan Gordon (Warburton-Millgrove), a key defender and Victorian U19 representative this year; Oscar McInerney (Montrose) 21, 203cm - a promising ruckman. Another interesting acquisition at the Casey Scorpions is Murray Bushrangers TAC Cup coach Darren Ogier who will be an assistant under Justin Plapp. Ogier spent six years at the Bushies and this year coached draftees Clayton Oliver and Mitch King, having previously also coached rookie Max King.7 points

As difficult as it is, i try and view the rebuild as only really starting under Roos, in his 2 years so far we have gone from 2 wins 58% to 7 wins, which should have been more like 10 a really strong core of talent that looks like taking us forward, slowly winning back respect and i think we can play finals next year if everything plays out perfectly injury wise.6 points

After reading todays reports and the players completely neglecting to mention to drug testers about some of the injections, I withdrawal any and all defence I have made recently of them and have no sympathy at all towards them6 points

I attended my first pre season training session today and my observations were: Gus was running heaps of laps in company with Cross, the latter being probably the fittest on the park... unfortunately Our captain looked strong and fit though he was restricted to non contact work whilst I was there. The most impressive sight for me was CP who looked in peak condition ,moved beautifully , and dare I say it, had Ablett-esque traits. Hogan has lost much of his puppy fat but not his swagger There were more assistants on and around the field than I've ever seen before at training.. It seems as if the football department has been cashed up.6 points

Went today and took some happy snaps. Hope this works I am generally hopeless at this interweb stuff. One thing worth noting is the size of the scar on Dean Kent's hammy, massive. http://imgur.com/a/okx1R6 points

I'm finally starting to get a really good feeling about this. This was, for a while at least, looking like the scum had written a "how to" manual, for sporting clubs worldwide, to cheat with illegal, performance enhancing drugs, and get away with it. It now shows the signs that this may not be the case after all, and that real justice might actually be done. Lets be honest here, and put all AFL, or Australian bias aside. Essedon appear to have cheated, and on a massive scale, and the publicly reported evidence showed that there was indeed an attempt by the players to cover it up. Unprecedented in Australian sport, and also unprecedented in scale. Lets hope the penalties are also unprecedented in worldwide team sports, once the real and true verdict is brought down. Take it completely out of the afl's hands, and give the CLUB the full 2 year ban. Filthy scum deserve nothing less.5 points

I got there about 10 but could only stay for an hour. They had 2 really good sessions of working the ball from full back to pass the centre, with full contact, handball and kicking under pressure. They also had similar games trying to get the ball forward of centre to FF. They all looked pretty sharp. Harmes was the stand out to me. Petracca put a soda through the goals from 5 metres out. Then turned around and off 2 steps barrelled a torp. as straight as a dye to the centre square. Just beautiful to watch. VB, ANB, Jetta all performed really well. I didn't recognise O McD with his hat on, but take the hat off, has his body shape changed. The difference I have noticed this year is the amount of full on intensity in every drill. I saw someone over by the punt road side, take a mark near the boundary about 40m out. Then walk back and slowly walk in and put it straight through the Centre. It was just perfect kicking style. He was wearing Yellow Fluorescent boots. I kept my eyes on him and walked around to see who it was. It was Max King. I don't remember him having such a fluent kicking action. Can someone tell me I am wrong. Anyway that's me for the moment.5 points

How dare you question me sir? I'm just itching to try out the ban features of this software.4 points

IMHO It doesn't look ideal for Goodwin but I doubt he will get caught up in any fall out from the CAS Hearing. My reasoning is that; 1. Goodwin admitted to the AFL and ASADA that he was given Hexarelin and other supplements from Dank along with 5 other EFC staffers. Hexarelin is banned under WADA for players but not for Staff and support people its. If this was evidence of an ADV against Goodwin he would have been in trouble by now. http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/bomber-five-admit-dank-drugs-link-20130510-2jdqc.html 2. The AFL in their notice of charges against Essendon named staff whom they believed their conduct brought the game into disrepute those being Robson, Hird, Thompson, Corcoran, Reid, Hamilton, Robinson and Dank. I believe if he had a more involvement in the ADV or the running of the program it would have come out in this report. http://www.afl.com.au/staticfile/AFL Tenant/AFL/Files/EssendonFC-notice-of-charges.pdf4 points

Cheers KC! I've been a long time follower of this forum, decided I had to join! A mate of mine actually helps manage this Jaffer-Williams kid, and when I heard there was some potential in Casey going for him I jumped straight on the bandwagon. I'm very excited about the possibilities, we've got a Kennedy-Harris, a Neal-Bullen... would make for a fitting hyphen brigade with Jaffer-Williams on board haha. But in all seriousness my mate thinks this kid is good enough to crack a rookie list, and it's his kicking that will ultimately decide whether he makes it or not. From what I heard they're looking to start him in the development league but he will get his opportunities. I've tried to get as much info as I can, but it's very hard to get a word out of him. It's an exciting though, I love an underdog story and it's fantastic seeing us take a punt on the underdog. Apparently he's lightning quick, very agile and chases and tackles like his life depended on it. From what I've been told they are going to seriously work on his kicking and if he can get it right he'll become a very handy player for us. Promising that he can run distance too, very aerobically sound for an indigenous prospect. Btw, he plays as a small forward and gets used through the wings at times. I haven't actually seen him play live myself but that's the feedback I've gotten about him. Hopefully I'll get to a few games to watch him.3 points

Personally I don't think it was a calculated risk 'timD', I think it was a stupid one but time will tell.3 points

Jaffa-Williams can seriously play.. Il be watching with keen interest with his form at Casey. Played a couple of games this year for Wodonga raiders which included a one off game with none other then Aaron Davey. I believe that he may be boarding with the Daveys now? Darren Ogier is a quality bloke who has developed some good AFL players from the bushies. He will be a very good inclusion for Casey/MFC young players development.3 points

As you may well be aware we have just made a major upgrade to the forum software which was necessary. If you are reading this post but cannot login it may be because as part of the update you now need to use you Display Name (ie: the name other posters see when you post) as your Username. Your password should remain the same. For example if you originally signed up to Demonland as YzeIsALegend82 but have since changed your Display Name a number of times and are now HoganKnowsBest82 then your new Username will be HoganKnowsBest82. Obviously with such a big update things will look different than you are used to and things might be in different places. People dislike change but trust me this was necessary and you will get used to it in time. In the long run you will like all the new features so have a play around with the settings in particular the notification settings which can be customized. For example you can have it notify you if with a pop up if people reply to your post while you are online. Settings like this can be switched on and off as per your preference. I will also be playing around with the look and feel of the site over the next few days as the upgrade put everything back to default (which I knew would happen). The homepage will also be back soon. I just need to work out what all the shiny new buttons do. Also any new bugs will be ironed out too so please be patient.2 points

You have to work hard to find ambiguity in those words IMO, especially given what follows. And yes, there is a natural tendency for Demonlanders to believe worse of other clubs than ours, but the major difference with the tanking was that it 'was something out of nothing' especially if you add the word 'unusual' after 'nothing'.2 points
-
I'll never cease to be amazed at how Demonland thought Caroline Wilson made something out nothing when it came to our 'tanking' story but is a gospel to be believed on this matter. Unfortunately her very first sentence adds to the confusion. Does she mean to say that the players didn't mention the injections? Or didn't mention Thymosin? If she meant the Thymosin, rather than the injections, then it is still possible that what 'troubled' the CAS members was the behaviour of Dank, and by extension, the club, by injecting the players something they did not know about. Nevertheless, Caro should be given credit for accessing information that no-one else in the media seems to have been able to find.2 points

It's not clear from Caro's article why the players were called upon to testify but when a court or tribunal finds some of the evidence "troubling" you would have to start feeling somewhat uncomfortable if you are charged with an offence. I was already comfortably satisfied about the players' guilt but this new "evidence" doesn't seem to help the players because there are certain inferences now open to CAS upon which to draw in considering the guilt of the players that probably weren't taken into account by the Tribunal. It wouldn't help the players on the question of their penalty if found guilty if CAS concluded that the players failed to mention the so called "good thymosin" when discussing the supplements they had taken. After all, the obligation on the part of the players to be aware of what they have ingested into their bodies is paramount. Not looking good for Jobe; nor for 11 others at his club and a few elsewhere including one at Melbourne. In recent times, I've felt that the players might get off lightly because of the way the saga has dragged on (much of it due to the way their club, coaches and officials conducted themselves) but I can't see them getting off without serving some significant time. And as for Hird and Reid - they rightfully should, as suggested above, be suffering from loose bowel movements ATM.2 points

As far as drugs in sport, yes, they were responsible. But Essendon has just admitted to Worksafe that they failed to provide their players with a safe workplace. Leading those players to lose income, reputation, etc ... ugly ugly ugly. When Milkshake is banned. If Goody proves a baddy, well the club can just deal with it. If they've been stupid enough to bring this upon themselves/ourselves then they can bloody well fix it. I think in some ways the club has fallen into footy groupthink about this. The AFL is about to be taught a long overdue lesson. Can't wait for the chorus of indignation to rise from their bleeding hearts. I can hear however the warbling of the Fat Lady warming up. It's curtains for Essendon...and their numnut players. More fool us. The excuses should prove entertaining at least2 points

CHANGES 2015 - The Nowhere Men by The Oracle I suppose I should be thankful that back in July when the National Under 18 championships were coming to a conclusion I wasn't beamed up to the starship Enterprise by its chief engineer, Montgomery "Scotty" Scott. At the time there was something in the order of 200 young footballers taking part in the carnival and I knew well the names and attributes of the best of them but had I returned from a race around the stars under the guardianship of Captain James Tiberius Kirk last week to discover who Melbourne drafted, I would have been in a state of confusion. Not a single player taken by the Demons represented his state in the championships - there were no All Australians and no familiar names from that period of several weeks when a number of those interstate games were shown in their entirety on Foxtel and discussed in the media and on the Net. One might have been forgiven for thinking that the Demons had traded out of the first four rounds of the draft to pick up some big fish but no - in fact, they had two selections in the top ten and all of the players they took were off the radar for one reason or another before and/or during the season. They were the "nowhere men". Clayton Oliver, the first choice at three which was parlayed into four when Melbourne bid for Sydney midfielder Callum Mills was an injured, restless soul when the 2015 season started - AFL Draft 2015: How Clayton Oliver came from nowhere Recovering from osteitis pubis, overweight and unable to do much of a preseason, he moved from the Bendigo Pioneers to the Murray Bushrangers. He missed the cut for the Victorian Country team but by midseason, with improved fitness, the powerful inside midfielder made his run. By season's end he was the Morrish Medallist and a star of the draft combine with significantly reduced weight and skin folds. This is what his coach at the Bushrangers told Inside Football:- Melbourne's other top ten selection which eventually came at pick 9 was Sam Weideman from the Eastern Ranges. An AIS AFL Academy member, he started early in the season against two VFL teams but succumbed to stress fractures in his ankle - season over. His story is chronicled in these articles.AFL BLOODLINES: WEIDEMAN WANTS TO FORGE HIS OWN LEGACY Sam Weideman reflects on draft expectation, famous surname, ankle injury AFL Draft 2015: Sam Weideman wants to make a point After the draft - Sam Weideman documents his draft experience before and after joining Melbourne The talent manager at the Eastern Ranges where he was a teammate last year of Christian Petracca had this to say:- The Demons continued to think big with their remaining choices, selecting ruckman Mitch King (who is shown in a number of Bushies highlight reels deftly palming the ball down the throat of Clayton Oliver) and key position player Liam Hulett. Again, both players were highly thought of by the recruiters but injuries had conspired to keep them off the radar. And the Demons' first rookie selection, Josh Wagner is a 21-year-old defender from the NEAFL. The club's other rookie draft selections confirmed the redrafting of Viv Michie and the selection of Joel Smith as a Category B rookie. As a result of the drafts, the club's playing list for 2016 is:- PRIMARY LIST: Angus Brayshaw Tomas Bugg Chris Dawes Lynden Dunn Sam Frost Colin Garland Jeff Garlett Max Gawn Jack Grimes James Harmes Jesse Hogan Liam Hulett Jayden Hunt Neville Jetta Matt Jones Nathan Jones Ben Kennedy Jay Kennedy-Harris Dean Kent Mitch King Heritier Lumumba Oscar McDonald Tom McDonald Jake Melksham Alex Neal-Bullen Ben Newton Clayton Oliver Cameron Pedersen Christian Petracca Christian Salem Jake Spencer Billy Stretch Dean Terlich Jack Trengove Dom Tyson Aaron vandenBerg Bernie Vince Jack Viney Jack Watts Sam Weideman ROOKIE LIST: CATEGORY A Max King Viv Michie Mitch White Josh Wagner ROOKIE LIST: CATEGORY B Joel Smith * player quotes from the current edition of Inside Football2 points

couldnt give a rats about Milkshake. Never expected him to play in 2016 ( at least ) anyway2 points

Probably longer ago except for the fact that the club was ruined by incompetent management from the board down. No one is expecting Clayton Oliver or Sam Weideman to drag us out of the s...., this has already started but these kids will add to the structure that has now been started. I will be disappointed if we don't move into the 6 - 12 region of the ladder next season and I think only injury will hold us back.2 points

Max King has a very neat kick on him and is tall. He is well behind on running or pace related drills, but tries very hard and is always encouraged enthusiastically by the group. There is now a great collective will and buy-in amongst our young players that encourages all within the group to succeed - culture growing. Looks like he has put on a bit of size over summer, but not much muscle or definition, as can be seen from the photos of the last couple of sessions. Gawn is miles ahead of him, obviously, but also 4-5 yrs older in experience. I think Max King is worth perservering with.2 points

Height- 175-177cm Weight- 74-76kg Age- 20 Traits- Speed, agility, natural crumber Disadvantages- Kicking lets him down at times, confidence Yarran Jaffer-Williams is a young indigenous prospect looking to spark his AFL aspirations back to life. He was a member of the QBE Sydney Swans academy and also represented the NSW/ACT Rams state side. He played primarily for the Sydney Swans Reserves and Sydney University. Jaffer-Williams was a highly regarded Swans academy prospect under the tutelage of now Demons mentor Paul Roos. He came up through the ranks alongside current Sydney Swans players Isaac Heeney, Jack Hiscox and Abe Davis. Due to some difficult circumstances Jaffer-Williams draft aspirations took a blow in 2014, having stopped academy training; virtually giving up his pathway to a potential shot into the AFL system. Mid 2015 saw a dramatic turn of events for Jaffer-Williams as he was scouted while doing "extra" work for a football segment of a TV show in Sydney. Determined to make a change in his lifestyle and work for his dream Jaffer-Williams packed up his life in an instance and moved to the Wodonga Raiders mid-season. His time at Wodonga was tough, his first game was his best game for the Raiders as a young and inexperienced man trying to adjust to the rigors of country footy. He'd eventually spend time in the Wodonga reserves, regularly finishing in the bests eluding to a shocking semi-final call up to take on Brendon Fevola's Pigeons. Jaffer-Williams left his mark on the Raiders with his very last game as he finished in the bests in an agonizing loss that ended Wodonga's season. Jaffer-Williams had re-signed with the Raiders for season 2016, having not completed a proper pre-season since early 2013 and with very limited football behind him since his Swans academy days, there is no ceiling to Jaffer-William's potential should he be nurtured and built up in an elite environment. As has been the case with his journey to date, it took another fascinating turn as an opportunity to play VFL football transpired. Jaffer-Williams had meetings with the Frankston Dolphins, Port Melbourne Borough and the Casey Scorpions, eventually choosing to commit to the Scorpions program. Casey senior coach Justin Plapp choosing to meet Jaffer-Williams personally and detailing a plan that would see Jaffer-Williams nurtured and educated should he earn a shot on the Scorpions list played a critical factor in Casey being chosen as the preferred destination. Yarran Jaffer-Williams has been impressing immensely throughout pre-season. Finishing with a time of 6 minutes and 40 seconds for his initial 2km time trial (top 15), further backing up his run with a very respectable score of 21.5 in the 30:15 test. He solidified his strong results with a time of 11 minutes and 35 seconds for Casey's 4km time trial at AAMI stadium, finishing 4th overall. Still only 20, YJW has high hopes of playing AFL football in near future. 2016 is set to be a developmental year for the young indigenous prodigy as he looks to rewrite the errors of his past and make amends for the missed opportunities driving his burning desire to become the footballer the Sydney Swans had hoped he'd become.2 points

I would hope that after the xmas/new year break they will be getting into the serious business and that all players would be on board (they already did the new players followed by older players thing a few weeks ago, so hopefully they won't repeat that). "The past and present Essendon players and the AFL had remained hopeful that even if found guilty of doping violations they were unlikely to miss football games. This followed submissions from the AFL and ASADA. However all parties remain less optimistic following the CAS hearing." And so they should. Again, there are some who would say the players have nothing to answer for, and the CLUB, dribbles the same line over and over. "the supplements were all legal" Oh really? So legal, and above board, that EVERY SINGLE player interviewed, neglected to mention them, in an interview with ASADA, about the taking of DRUGS?!?!?!?! I suspect the crowd will stop obsessing about draft picks once: a) we play some finals so we have other things to get excited about b) we play finals so we don't have a top 10 pick (less exciting than pick 3) c) we have 25+ regular senior players who everyone thinks are better options for round 1 than an untried 17 year old who gets drafted (will be accelerated if the 17 year old is ranked 10-15 rather than 1-7)1 point
