  1. Anyone still think we got screwed on Howe? We plugged pick 29 directly in to a trade we were going to use Howe in. That was his market value. Anyone also still care that we used 25 instead of 29 for Melksham? Anyone still reckon they'd do a better job than the amateurs at the club at the moment? I'm feeling so smug right now. Hehe.

  2. Just received this text message from my mate who works at the Falcons (where Parish plays), who also just so happens to be a mad bombers supporter: "YOU [censored]! You have stolen Parish from us. Melbourne must have been onto this for a long time ago, they must have known they were going to trade to get an earlier pick hence why Goodwin was all over Parish and the Falcons (saw him in the rooms regularly). You now have secured the best 3 midfielders in the TAC Cup from the past two years, plus the best forward. No excuses for your team now."

  3. Today should be a lesson for those who wanted to do the trades early and for those who continually wanted to play hard ball. MFC and GWS clearly had a plan from the beginning of trade period to use the system to benefit both parties. They were prepared to do this because of a trust between the parties. This trust was also evident in the initial GCS trade. Playing hard ball only puts people off side. MFC with Mahoney and Roos have built a reputation of being sensible to deal with and trustworthy. We have clearly worked on outcomes that are "win win" which is the key to all successful negotiations. Well done MFC. Let's hope the posters who shot off at the mouth learn from this. I'm so sick of blokes coming out slagging decisions and then saying "I'm happy to eat humble pie" and then being stupid enough to make exactly the same mistake two minutes later. On another note, I wonder if Prodee is still "underwhelmed".

  5. GNF didnt just pick Neelds exit, he said when it will happen He gave an exact play by play with Roos from around 6 months before it happened. He called absolutely everything that happened long before anyone else, including the media GNF never ever said Lever at pick 3. In fact he said the opposite. He claimed Roos rates him and would like to trade for a later first rounder to get him but that was it. In fact here is his EXACT post: So he got that one spot on And finally he never ever said Dangerfield and Kennedy are dees. Hes said were working hard to get deals for them. Melbourne tried hard for Danger last year but obviously didnt happen. GNF even said the deal died when we could no longer trade Trengove which was completely unexpected By this logic youre saying he has said Prestia will 100% be a dee when in reality is he said Melbourne are working hard to make it happen Whether he is right or wrong is also irrelevant when you consider some of the abuse given to him when he makes a post. Everyone can be wrong and things change. To abuse someone for that is so childish you would wonder what some grown men are doing on a message board Id take the one or two things hes wrong about to keep hearing about the good stuff about the club like getting Roos or finding out who we are targeting. If people interpret him telling us who we are working on as "were 100% getting" then hes not the problem Keep posting GNF, Appreciate the updates

  6. I will say this, I'm really glad that we have a good working relationship with so many clubs, especially GC & GWS. I bet that GC wouldn't have honored a deal, or even contemplated doing one with Essendon or Collingwood. We go about our business without trying to 'screw' anyone else, and that is why we can get good win-win deals done. It's a credit to our football department.

  7. BTW, if you are one of the many who have prattled on about what we did and failed to do and how Mahoney sucks and how you are a better negotiator and waawaawaa... this would be a good time to stick your hand up and admit you don't know WTF you're talking about

  8. Some of us have left it a bit late this year but I'm confident we can make up for lost time and become draft experts within a month.

  18. The full story from the club http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2015-10-21/dees-secure-picks-no3-and-no10"It means Melbourne now has picks No.3, No.10, No.43, No.46 and No.50 in this year’s draft, as opposed to No.6, No.29, No.46, No.50 and No.64", Not to mention the player trades. Agree with Mahoney - it is a great deal! So apparently we didn't get screw-ed by Howe leaving for the pies not GCS. Mahoney says: “Importantly, the deal signed this morning was the original deal proposed with Gold Coast involving Jeremy Howe. We have just replaced the Howe to Gold Coast component with pick No.29 – the pick we received from Collingwood in the Howe trade.

  20. Demon Disciple, on 21 Oct 2015 - 2:30 PM, said: DD, show some class and calm down. I said at the beginning of this trade period that I no longer had the info flow from the club. Surprise, surprise I was spoken to for saying too much last, this year I was not given the privilege. I was only told one thing this season and that is the club was going hard for Prestia........ which was hardly a secret. The club was confident in getting him. Maybe that will be next year. Last year we went all out for Danger, I said this, we failed. Why abuse me? Perhaps you need to talk to someone about your anger? This year, clearly I got the trading for a player thing wrong. I never said I knew this, or had been given inside info. It was just joining the dots. I was wrong.

  23. Our relationship with GWS and GC goes all the way back to the Viney thing. I don't know if the MFC foresaw the benefit of that bearing fruit now all the way back then, but we are now clearly a preferred trading party to these clubs who have an incentive to trade away early picks and surplus players. Plenty to criticise the MFC for over the years, but the management of this relationship looks like it has been first rate from the outside.

  30. Middymalt, for the few years I've been on this forum I've been watching feuds erupt on a regular basis. I often think to myself, "How do these people even remember who is posting?". For the life of me, I couldn't get a grudge to stick... But your name, my malty friend, is managing to stick hard and fast.

  31. Love this quote: 'Parish tested at the combine but didn't stand out in any of the events. That shouldn't be a surprise or a worry. He's a natural footballer and one who steps up a level when the ball is there to get and offers plenty of dash.' In case anyone missed it Roos, PJ and Mahoney have been crystal clear who they want at the club - competitors. Parish sounds like one. The Melk and Kennedy both appear to be competitors. Add these pick ups to recent pick ups like Petracca, Brayshaw, Viney and Vandenburg and we have a core of hard at it fierce players. I love that the club has a clear, publicly stated plan for building their list and they have gone about getting the type of players who fit that plan. I watched the GWS replay for the first time last night (withdrawal pains) and what stood out is how fierce the players were. Salem taking down Cameron and competing with much bigger players, his niggle and refusal to back down, the attack on the ball by Harmes (and his niggle with McCartney), Vineys manic tackling, Michies attack on the ball, Gawndogs energy and Hogans ferocity both in the air but also on the ground. Terrific to watch and exactly what Roos wants. I have no doubt Watts was dropped for that game to send him a clear message that you get with the program or see ya round. He said as much a couple of weeks later when making a public statement that he was super keen to stay with the dees but knew he needed to get more competitive. Players who we want (ie competitors) will want to come to our club. Bring on 2016. Oh and well done Josh.

  33. so we get 3 & 10 this year and GC get pick 6 this year and pick 18 next year? sounds good to me

  34. We started the trade period with pick 6. If you said we'd finish the trade period with picks 3 and 7 and lose just one best 22 player - a C-grader - I wouldn't have believed you.

  37. How our club is managed, coached and drafting now could not be further away from the dark days of 2011-13.
    7 points
  38. Yeah, but who cares? If we make decisions based on things that 'might' happen in the future - we won't make a decision. Besides, we can trade 2017 First rounder plus any number of players. I don't think it will be an issue - the bigger issue is getting Prestia to want to leave and for him to nominate us.
    7 points
  39. Yep. There's only one thing that can be concluded which is that the club KNEW that the Bombers would take whoever it is WE want with their 4th or 5th pick, so they have pulled this swifty

  40. I LOVE THIS TRADE. We currently can't attract A grade talent to our club - but VERY importantly there is actually very few A grade players that move clubs relative to the amount of teams. So what we've essentially said here is that we will back ourselves to bring in quality players through the draft and then if that makes us a more desirable team to FA's because our future looks bright then so be it - but if not we still have quality coming through. I also love it because it signals a desire to get better immediately without sacrificing longevity. Next year our first pick may be a lot higher and to be honest thats what we ALL want. Our footy club is being well managed. It almost makes me want to cry.

  41. If we do pick Darcy Parish with # 3 then we owe it all to our dear friend Chris from Camberwell who, although somewhat misinformed, did raise the call for us to get him and in their own way, the recruiters at Melbourne went out and made it happen.

  46. Great news. Probably the biggest and most important trade we have done in the whole period.

  47. Ben Kennedy doesn't belong in the same group as Michie, Riley and Newton. He was a highly rated junior who hasn't come on as expected. The other three were fringe footballers who we got for very cheap. That's not to say it won't have the same result, but I'd say the premise in taking Kennedy is different to the others.
